Thank You Purojannu! I had no idea there was a live version of this anywhere. Being as I live in Houston, it makes it even closer to home from The Only Band That Matters, still!!!!!!
Could it be that they played this song with a touch of self-irony? Seeing that the band was in a really bad shape at this point with Topper out and the relationship between Mick, Joe and Paul was also quite inflamed?
@JoesRamone yeah i always thought about that too... this was the only tour they played it on, and this particular concert was six, or four, cant remeber, days before the very last gig of the clash with its three founding members.
@Horaciow14 i think its talking about/to young bands. death or glory, just another story= most bands, sadly, even though they try their best and are reasonably talented, never really make it, and they have to choose between making it(glory) by selling themselves(death) or just forget about it, get a job in a supermarket or an office and get on with their lives. Very few bands really make it without any compromises.
this is definitely one of their best songs. I love the line about the love and hate tatoo across the hand. their songs really had great lyrics. In lots of songs by other bands, the chorus was just repeated at nauseum but Joe really fleshed out the songs.
@tylergray78210 this just means that u have never been to a Rammstein concert :D

@JoesRamone It's written with quite a bit of self irony from the start, so why not, heh?
drbalalajka 1 year ago
@JoesRamone Isn't the whole song ironic? They were often joking about themselves and others in their lyrics.

Is this song about war? "Death or glory, it's just another story"

My favorite song by the Clash. Love the bass line, and the rhythm guitar is hot too. Thanks for posting, mate!

How come they didn't play this one live that much? IMO it's one of their absolutely best.
On the other hand they had a few to choose from, no way they could cram all their great songs in, or that would have been a VERY long concert...
mateuszmattias 2 years ago
so true, its one of my favourites and this is the only live recording ive ever heard of it.
a the clash playing all there songs live would be a damn good concert, even though it would take a couple of days to get through :P
