  • i have to say this is one of the finest moments in drama. I have tended towards the judgmental side with my family on more than one occasion. This scene has humbled me every time. Can dram do more, than teach the unwilling what humanity is at its bes,t and what we can become?

  • Powerfull words, Indeed.

  • I agree, Diddy did not pull it off in the new version. Walter Lee's character has to be played by a very skills actor such as Sydney P. Maybe Denzel could have.

  • Mama slapping her daughter has to be taken in the context that she lived. '' Spare the rod and spoil the child' was what was believed. Of course, she loved Beneatha

that 'slap' was a 'wake-up' call ; and not 'child abuse' . Now kids knowall about their 'rights' - but not their RESP (ECT) ONSABILITY.

  • "My father almost beat a man to death cuz he called him some kinda name, y'know?"

"... *stares down at his own hands*"

lol, I can see that mousy white negotiator sweating bullets...

  • brilliance!!

  • O' how I love this movie.... The truth never dies.... Classic

  • I kinda feel sorry for the white guy. You can tell all he wants to do is get the hell outta there!

  • Whats the part where he says how come you college boys wear them faggity looking white shoes. they look funny as hell.

  • Awesome movie...great direction, writing and acting. And quite the historical document!

  • Great scene!

    Steven Risman

  • I disagree, I LOVED the new one too. P. Diddy did a GREAT job.

  • This movie is the best performance of the play I've ever seen. Everyone is on one accord and the acting is spectacular.

  • ah man i did this play in skool,,,, i was beneatha ALL the time!!! but Lindner is white, so y did danny play him??? Ruins the dramatic affect of racism, n proud people....

  • danny didnt play lindner. he played walter. linder was white.

  • well qot the movies confused,,,, thx 4 the update

  • no prob!

  • linder IS piglet

  • who is the littel boy is a Tupac XD

  • Linder Sounds like Piglet LOL

  • yh he does lol.

  • the linder in the other version with DANNY GLOVER sounds like piglet too. could it be the same person?

  • Yeah, Linder is Piglet, his voice actor at least.

  • @chuobio

Never noticed that. I just know him from 12 Angry Men...

  • He's the same actor who voiced him

  • This is the best classic movie of ALL time for me!!!..I love the Big Momma character..so strong and wise,gr8 emotion.. My favorite line and part of the movie "You better say it..In my momma's house, there is still God"..

I'm not a fan of the remake of this, though I revere all the actors and actresses in the new one..

    Thnx 4 posting!!!

  • This was actually a play written by Lorraine Hansberryan a adapted to a movie. Plays can have a profound dramatic effect because of the emphasis on dialogue and character.

  • Omg that was wonderful!

  • The finest speech of the entire play. Mama demonstrates the compassion of God here. Love this.

  • is that the grandma from "roll of thunder, hear my cry"? there needs to also be a movie for "let the circle be unbroken" (mildred d. taylor).

  • You damn right. That series was wonderful. I had to read roll of thunder for school and ended up reading all the series even the mini-books.

  • @hisboo911 It sure is.

  • they just dont make mameokas or aunt jamimas anymore

  • that's John Fiedler as Linder--he originated the role on Broadway, and played the role again in the 1989 Danny Glover tv version.

  • I would kiss the feet of all those black ladies to show them my respect.

    Me = Mexican American

  • then she hugs her

  • One of the greatest plays in american literature.

  • Sidney was stunning from the beginning.

  • That is an extremely moving scene. And food for thought about how to love. View the scene from Imitation Of Life where Mahalia Jackson sings. It too gives you something to think about; when love does not fit into a neat little box

  • Mr. Linder hahahahaHAHAHA!!!!!

  • Mama on here was scary but powerful.

  • have this classic , on dvd ,and i watch it twice a year every year...!!!

    my favorite film EVER..!!!!

  • I love this movie! We just watched it yesterday in class, and omg, I was just so happy with the ending. It's too bad they don't make movies like this anymore.

  • hey did tupac really play the role of that lil boy?

  • Comment removed

  • No...Tupac was born in 1971...this movie is from 1961. ^_^

  • yeah my frend was telling me that and i didnt believe him.. i knew it! tis was a great film

  • haha damn i wish. im going to pretend its him.

  • please please please upload the whole movie. i can't find the clip anywhere on youtube where sidney poitier is talking to his wife about his plan.

  • "i never like sydney poitier, the only black actor i never appreciate"

    WTF?!

  • Mr Lindner=The original voice of Piglet from Winnie the pooh

  • when hes talking about the six generations it givez the whole concept and meaning of plant they have in the backyard it is the "rasin in the sun"

  • This is acting 101. This is better then the newer one. Marvelous!

  • @zenguy22 THIS IS SO RIVETING..I FEEL THE GO AHEAD'S!!!!

  • @zenguy22 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this movie and play. I directed this scene for my college directing class and my scene won best scene. So so good this play is

  • Mama in the book A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is a very positive and idealistic character

  • i watch this classic at least twice a year ..its #1 as my favorite movie ever!!!!

    1:07-1:16 gets me everytime,someone hand me a tissue......great scene

  • I feel ya man, I feel you.

  • I LOVE THIS

  • I think Ruby Dee is his SISTER.. not his wife..

  • no, ruby dee is his wife. the self-righteous chick is his sister

  • yeah you're right. I always thought his sister was played by Ruby Dee. I'm sorry. Thanks IMDB

  • only the mother was self rightous. Today's families would not only have taken the second chance offer but would have made a business out of going into different neighborhoods just to get bought out. Don't say they wouldn't

  • What exactly is it that you're babbling about?

  • I saw the 2008 version just now on project free tv and was so taken by it . Mother figure is so powerful ...I loved the intorduction:dream differed....dried in the sun greatttttttt.

  • amazing scene im loving it im reading this book in my school right now

  • just did this play. most amazing, moving, powerful play you can watch or be in.

btw, didn't like 2008 version. espeacially diddys " damn these eggs and damn all the eggs that ever was" line.

  • the 2008 movie was alright, most people are going to say they didn't like it because Diddy is no Sidney Poitier by no means..But I think all of the actors in the new one played their parts extremely well. I mean there is only one Sidney, but I gotta give Diddy and the rest of them credit where it was due..

  • while watching this you almost forget that this is a movie and these are actors and that they have lines. its just so real and so beautifully acted you almost get lost in it. this is when movies were good. when they evoked emotion, when they told a story and made you feel proud to be black. dang where are the powerful movies at?

  • i have to play as asagai

  • The white guy sounds like a woman.

  • you know who he is right? He did the voice of piglet in Winnie the Pooh! haha

  • This version cannot campare to the others it is the greatest version of all time! the acting is just awesome I loved it as a kid!

  • I dont think that this one should be comparerd to 2008 version. Personally I really liked the 2008 version alot. It wasnt made to be better than the original or worse. I think it was a great honor to have a remake versions with the stars that people my age (17) are used to seeing. I waited a whole year to see last night's version. Dont get me wrong I must say this version is good and powerful but so was last night's version. A raisin in the sun is just a well written, powerful peice of work.

  • I totally agree. I'm 17 too and as great as the sydney portier version is I found that It was nice to actually recognize some of the actors in the movie. I was waiting for the 2008 version for over a year.

  • very powerful

  • these actors did such a better job that the puffy combs version sorry but I saw this as a kid and it has become one of my favorite movies of all time!

  • yea diddy is a horrible actor.
