the song was going to be called vermillion but then slipknot brought out an album called vermillion, so the name was changed to dakota but they didn't say why they decided to call it dakota

Seeing as the description plus the ten comments that I am seeing don't say anything about what the song may actually be about, I thought I'd throw this in.

Dakota is the name of a girl/woman/lady etc. (note: it is a female name). She is in his life but, at the same time, not in it. Physically present and they do things together but he doesn't think of her in personal terms.

In any case, one of the songs over the last ten years which didn't repel me, as many, many others did.

Clearly they've done something to you personally beyond music you disagree with. Tons of British (which is what I said originally) bands do it. As do other acts elsewhere. His vocals suit the type of music they produce, who gives a toss if it sounds American or not. I imagine as well that it probably has something to do with the taste of music he grew up with.

@RichyBMelodies The welsh accent IS ridiculous. Sure it's funny, and every welsh man sounds gay, but it's just not appropriate for singing. BUT, I may make the point, that there are similarities in the two accents. Bullet for My Valentine has a distinct welsh sound in their vocals, but few would pick up on it. I think it is widely accepted that the American accent is the most appropriate for singing.

If the xfactor contestants were really that talented they would need a cheesy tv show to become successful. Stereophonics are one of the only genuine bands these days that makes music because they gain satisfaction from it. Not because they make money from it. And a reslult their music is honest.
