Gyah . . . I kinda hate how most anime nowadays considers girls to be more "marketable". That's why they focus more on the female characters, even though Ryuuji's the main character, or how Seto no Hanayome gives image songs to the girls, but not Nagasumi (main character) and how in Haruhi, a 3-minute character gets an image song but the male supporting characters (Kunikida and Taniguchi) don't get them.

I know what you mean. I mean fanservice is one thing but an interesting plot or non-moe-related character development seems to be frowned upon these days.. It's like most popular shows now are just a 22 minute block of fanservice.

In defense of the "3-minute Character" Emiri Kimidori (I feel bad for knowing her name right off the top of my head), she seems to have somewhat of a role in the novels and is an interesting character in her own right.

But yeah, you have to remember that a lot of these shows are targeted at an audience of males 18-30 (Seinen), and the male lead is meant to be an audience surrogate. The female characters are meant to be the love interests of the main character and the audience.

Yeah, I know about that--I actually follow Haruhi &Toradora more through the books than I do through the anime--but Kunikida and Taniguchi still have larger roles.

I thought the whole point of stuff like Haruhi & Toradora (and Azumanga Daioh) was that you could have female leads and still appeal to both genders.
