I want to order this exact tank, but I'm worried about the filter being too powerful for my betta. Can you tell me a) whether it has adjustable flow--I can't find that info anywhere, so I'm assuming not--and b) what you've done to keep your fish's fins safely away from the filter intake? Also, do you use a heater?
I'm so very impressed--plants and fish are beautiful--and would be very grateful for any advice.
hi:-)a)no,it is not adjustabele, but the current is not strong and my betta have no problems with it.its a really good filter.
b)the fins does not go inside the filter, the sponge inside is very close to the intake, and the inflow is not very strong.all i can say is that i love this tank, have not have any problems.the light is also very good.
my heater broke so i have to get me a new one.but yes,bettas like warmer water,around 75-86 F (24-30 C).hope it helped:-))
My tank arrived, so I'll soon be adding gravel and silk plants (I garden outside, but I can't even pretend to have your skills at aquarium gardening)--they should arrive tomorrow. Then I hope to start cycling the tank. I don't want to bug you, but you've obviously been very successful, so advice is so much appreciated:
Did you cycle your tank? Do you have any concern about your fish jumping out?
i hope you like your tank and everything goes well.do cycle the tank,at least a week before adding fish,i always do,now i have 3 tanks.
bettas can jump,so a lid is good to have.my tank has a lid and i use it(but not in the videos).and if you want to learn how to set up a real plant tank there are many good videos in here, like the videos from tropica(the best plant company in my opinion).good luck
I'm trying to grow hemianthus callitrichoides and I have a 5 gallon tank, I was just wondering what do you use for lighting and how many watts is it? :)
i have recived a lot of questions about betta care, and i am glad to help.there is a lot of bad advice out there from pet store people.my advice is,do not in general listen to them, they whant to sell you their products, like tiny bitty betta kits and food that is not good to give your betta.before getting a betta than get your info from someone who knows what they are talking about.when i started i got involved in my local aquarium club.many of them also have good fish care info on their website.
very pretty tank but you should have some cory cats or mollies to it i have had very good luck with those being in betta tanks right now i have my 2 female bettas and 2 cory cats in a 2.5 gallon tank and they have been there for 3 mounths and r doing fine
its a betta splendens, siamese fighting fish.they have a organ in their mouth that let them breathe air.but they still needs good wather quality and space!its a territorial fish who can live alone, some have them together in community fish tanks, and that can go ok if the fish is not to agressive.i have one myself in a bigger tank(se my other video, juwel rio 180) with great result.
@toanpl yeah i agree. i have that too in my profile vid. lol.. i dnt have a time yet to post my newest video clip with my big fish tank/aquarium. well, thanks, gonna check out ur vids.thanks have a nice time.
no,females and male together is not a good idea.they will most likely fight(in nature they are toghether only when they have fry,the female goes away and the male looks afther the eggs).several females in a tank without a male is a better choice.i have to say that some who have females and males in bigger tanks with lot of hiding places and good space, have had them togheter with good result.bettas can live alone.the males are territorial.
@toanpl not always true, i have a male and a wild female together in the same tank, and they are ok. They are best friends, and rule the roost and the other fish know it! It also helps that my malae is used to being together with other fish since the day i got him. Your fish looks quite happy, and you can put other fish like guppies in with him, i have some and they get along, but get young male guppies so they dont breed, and when the tail grows in, they will be useto eachother and wont fight.
Nice, I cant wait to get my betta out of his 1g home and into my 5g. But I need to finish cycling my 10g so my fish from the 5g can move into that and then the betta can move to the 5.
@toanpl I think chally212's comment was a compliment. He was saying your plants look so good they look fake, seeing as how fake plants look like perfect plants. Awesome tank by the way.
ok,i think it is a cultural thing.if something looks like fake here in europe its not very positive, fake plants in a aquarium here is not common.but if it looks perfect i understand and i appologize:-)
@toanpl Plants can get bleached out from lighting sometimes. One of the negative side effects from high intensity lighting. Real plants over fake in a tank works out soooo much better to keep things minimal maintenance. Add a couple snails maybe a ghost shrimp, your betta tank will be golden.
I really love the way you have planted your tank. I have a 28 litre tank that I want to plant and keep a few neon tetras in.
I have a question: the light on this tank gets quite warm and the temperature can show between 20-26C, so would it still be necessary for me to use a heater?
Also what kind of soil are you using, or would you recommend?
do you need a heather?well, since the temp in your tank is not constant all the time,i think it is a good idea to get one.fish get very stressed with temperatures going up and down.the best is around 24 for moast tropical fish.there are many brands of soil to use, just remember to use one with all the nutrients and minerals the plants need.one brand i love is Aquatic Nature fertisoil.but you must also add nutriens in liquid form.:-)
Thank you for your reply. I actually went to my local aquarium and they advised me the same, that I should get a heater. I'm glad that I did as my tank now stays at a constant 24c, the heater has a built in thermostat so will never be too hot or cold :) I planted the tank about a week ago with Tetra complete substrate and I now have some very happy Zebra Danio's in there to cycle the tank.
not fake!!!its not common in europe to have fake plants in the tank.its good soil, clean water, effective filter, good lightning and co2.i do aquascaping.its not always easy, but its fun:-)))))
the plants are hemianthus callitrichoides, limnofhila sessiliflora and pogostemon helferi,i live in Norway, and i get my plants from a danish company called tropica.dk i dont know if they sell in the stated.but i belive so.....its awsome plants.so healthy...
@toanpl Thanks a lot! I finally find a place to buy all these plants in CA. I'm gonna make a nano tank when I have spare time. You have such a beautiful tank. I like it a lot. Keep it up and upload your new tank man!
hi! I want one so im doing research on them and I found that people say they live up to 1 year,3 year and some say 5 so I talked to the lady at the pet store she was no help her betta died after 6 mouths and all she said was to put spring water in there and keep them in a bowl ugh..some help she was..but I wanna get one but also make sure its taken care of any suggestions on making sure there happy and healthy?? I really appreciate it :) thank you and this video it was absolutely beautiful :)
hi,there is a lot of bad advice about bettas out there.i have had bettas for many years(my favorite fish).the age can range from 2-6 and mabye even older.my oldest was 4.my best advice to you is to become a member of a aquarium club where you live, ore call them, they can help you with good info about care of bettas:-)if you dont feel that you fint any good info i can give you my advice, just contact me again:-)
thank you so much for all your help I am defiantly wanting to make sure this is something I really want and not just get it and not knowing what im getting myself into!! thank-you again!! I am defiantly going to check into that :)
its so beautiful! absolutely gorgeous! im thinking about getting a tank and a betta, but scared to start. im wanting about the same size tank. does this one have a filter/heater? any tips on growing real plants in the tank?
sorry the late reply,i do have a little heater hidden in the tank, and the filter is the grey filter in the corner in the back.the tank size is 6 gallons.to grow real plants you need to have good soil with nutriants, strong lightning, clean water with regular water cange(i cange 50 % the first month and 25% after that),do not change all the water, and i use co2.if you want info about proper plantcare,go to tropica.dk and read:-)its a lot of fun and some work.real is better than fake
just go to a petshop and ask.i live in norway and here we can get them every petshop i now.what i use is called sonoplant, but there are a lot of other brands.i find that this tablets works best in small aquariums.
@toanpl I am starting to think Europe is way ahead of America in so many things. Our pet shops are pathetic here! I pretty much have to order every thing on line. Another thing we can't get here is Indian almond leaves. Those are all the rage now for Betta fish. Yet I've seen no fish store here carry them. And its hard to find any one in the US that sells them. We have to order on line out side the country.
you know that all the large aquarium brands like Eheim, tetra and so on is here in europe.but again there are some other things that i cant get yet, like the new fluval aquariums like fluval flora,i think it will be sold here later, but i cant wait and have bought it at amazon.com,so am waiting for it now:-)
well,if you go to amazon.com you can order co2 tablets:-)
@toanpl Yes, I'm going to look for these tablets. I want to try them and see if it helps my plants. So far, I've not been able to get any plants to grow even though I bought the proper light fixture for them. Also, the fish and pet stores here hardly sell any REAL aquatic plants. The plants they sell are actually non aqua and can only tolerate living under water for a certain amount of time and then they just drown and die. Real Aqua plants have to be ordered from the net too. (sigh)
ok,thats wird, here in norway and else in europe we have aqua plants from a place called Tropica, they are grown in Denmark and they are GREAT.they have videos here that show how to proper set up an aquarium with plants from the beginner to the expert....
@toanpl I think in the state of Florida here in the US its easier to get real aquatic plants but I live in San Francisco California and there are very few Aquarium shops that sell them. Only live terrestrial plants that will live for a few months then just die and pollute the water and bring on more algae. I see so many European and Asian people's tanks here on youtube and you all have more lovely tanks than we do. And you are also able to get prettier Betta fish than we can too.
try to find plants from tropica, they are the best in my opinion.i have just added another video of my nano aquarium now on my profile:-)
i have to say that many pet shops here in norway is not the best, but in general i am satisfied.its a large aquarium following here, and many chat forums, clubs and gatherings where people come together and get info and learn.betta fish is my favorite fish,to bad that a lot of people dont know how to care for them.
@toanpl I know! It is so sad that more people do not understand betta fish. They have no idea what they are missing. Because Betas are not only beautiful but very smart too. So captivating to watch especially if they are kept in an interesting tank set up. I change my betas tanks around every week just about. That way they never get bored and neither do I. (grin)
but Im curious, will you wait for the tablet to dissolve to put new one?if not, then how will you know when to remove and replace the old Co2 tablet? daily, weekly or monthly?
the brands are a litte bit different,so you just have to read the instructions:-)my type of co2 tablets is one a day.i just want to say that if you want to use tablets its best to do so in a little planted aquarium.
i am getting a betta tomorrow and he is living in a 23 litre tank :) xx

but Im curious, will you wait for the tablet to dissolve to put new one?if not, then how will you know when to remove and replace the old Co2 tablet? daily, weekly or monthly?

the brands are a litte bit different,so you just have to read the instructions:-)my type of co2 tablets is one a day.i just want to say that if you want to use tablets its best to do so in a little planted aquarium.
