@slipknotgirl06 The reason they don't run without shoes is because there feet would chip up and it's uncomfortable for most horses. Sometimes their are barefooted horse that race but very rarely. Big Brown had terribly sensitive feet, and there are many other horses out there that are similar.
@slipknotgirl06 When horses run as hard as they do in racing, it can take a toll on their feet and they get chipped up badly or sore, plus they need traction... I learned that from my dad's friend who does high level western speed events and cow work who has that problem sometimes :)
Well actully Yipyayappyya they actully always checkc the horseshoe. but i believe the accident happened in the race so, but i dont have tha many details.
Who put the shoe on Big Brown in the first place? Isn't there a raceday procedure where they take a look at the shoes before the horse goes out onto the track? Is that farrier still working for the IEAH barn?
@yipyappyyip It's not the farriers fault. During the race he more than likely got stepped on. Yes, I'm almost positive that the farrier still works for the stable, he is a professional and knows how to do his job, and do it very good.
Fix!!!!

Why dont racehorses be barefoot? Conditioning race horses feet to be barefoot would delete these problems completely.
