I really enjoyed the first Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes 2 was not bad, but not as good IMO. The ending of this movie had some unexplained elements (i won't give anything away).
Fuck L that little bitch sherlock from bbc can destroy L, light and dexter at the same time in an intellectual battle. L is only a student and a character based on sherlock holmes (fuck you fanboys yes he is) and i actually like the guy but seriously sherlock from bbc is fucking awesome
As good as this film was, i still think the bbc series of Sherlock is better, its just so clever and gripping, not to mention Andrew Scott as Moriaty is perfect
The Joker. It may not seem like it, but, yeah...the Joker no questions asked. His insanity is his genius and his genius is his insanity. Someone help me explain this.
The ending of this movie made me sooo freakin happy. With what just happened (waterfall), I was upset. But with the chair disguise and the '?'... I was very happy.
Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars as the smartest enemy in that universe. He's so intelligent you need to read books if you every want to know about him (heir to the empire trilogy)
This movie was... Alright... I have to agree with other commenters that Benedict Cumberbatch is the REAL Sherlock Holmes for the 21st century! Check him out on BBC!
Andrew Scott as Jim Moriaty also needs to be seen to be believed! :)
Wow, there's quite a lot of comments over the bbc Sherlock. Nothing wrong with that but people are coming off as if we shouldn't waste time liking Game Of Shadows. Like we should be ashamed on liking it.
Why?
Yes, bbc Sherlock is great and, yes, better than the movie but come on. Both the movie and the show are completely different from one another but is still tons of fun to watch for what they are. I know not everyone likes the same thing but there's no need for, 'this sucks, watch the show'
I'm sorry, gotta say this now- Downey Jr and Law are pretty awesome as Film!Holmes&Watson, but Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as BBC'sGreatestTVProduction!Holmes&Watson are just new levels of awesometacularness. If you love characters, editing, storylines and directing that is ultra-slick and goes above and beyond, then you -have- to watch Sherlock. And then a JJ review of it would be the icing on the cake :D
Lol, if you don't follow the names of every character in this movie it will get very confusing, once I knew who the guy who they were constantly talking about (not Moriarty I'm not that stupid) was I was like "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH" and then it got amazing
I loved the movie, but then I saw BBC's SHERLOCK television series and it just wiped the floor with this- it's just brilliant, brilliantly directed, acted, and Benedict Cumberatch is just...boss. Seriously. And I'm American.
Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law perfect? For the first time i disagree with you Jeremy. Benedict Cummberbatch and Martin Freeman, are a much more convincing Sherlock and Watson..you legitimately care about those 2.
favorite movie genius maybe hanible lecter or hertz from shoot'em up thats kind of a stretch though, i think im going to say the jew hunter from inglorious basterds
People rather than watch these Guy Ritchie abominations, Seriously Go watch the BBC show "Sherlock"......seriously its infinite times better than this movie. and the show is only two seasons with 3 episodes each (1 hour and 30 mins /episode) so pretty much your watching a movie.
i personally rank this show with The Wire and Breaking Bad, seriously its that amazing.
The Joker. He may seem crazy, but it is mentioned that actually he has a kind of super-sanity. Kind of like Holmes, "He sees everything, and that is his curse."
The reviewer is completely wrong. The second Sherlock Holmes film is awful. It takes everything great about the original and ruins it. They've turned Sherlock Holmes into a comedy. The action scenes are poorly edited and directed. There's too many flash forwards and slow motions used. Replacing Rachel McAdams' character with the Gypsy was a bad choice. It didn't work well. There's too much time filler and the plot is poor. Moriarty is badly portrayed too.
@aidenmccloskey i agree, though i'm not saying that the downey jr version is bad, i enjoyed it thoroughly, but i think that the bbc series has had more time to expand the characters of the book, and i think that moriarty was really wasted in the movie
@alexman378 yeah the actor sort of out did the crazy, but that's what made him awesome, it was really sort of portrayed a desperate child looking for a playmate, and then finall finding him, and wanting to kill him
@gradeaaaplus Even though I liked the one in the movie (don't get me wrong, there is no reason to compare, since everything is different, so don't compare either), I liked the rumors of Brad Pitt being Moriarti because for some reason, young genius criminal masterminds always worked better for me, because the generic old professor was way too common. Maybe he should do the Riddler in a future Batman movie. I mean he can really pull of someone like him, like he did in Season 1 Episode 3.
I'm just gonna say that Professor Moriarty has got to be one of the greatest villains of all time. He is pretty much superior to Sherlock in just about every way.
They very clearly illustrated him seeing everything in the first much more subtly and better I thought. In the restaurant when he's waiting for Watson and Watson's wife
@StuffFromSam I was going to suggest the same thing. How has he not done a Sherlock (BBC) review yet? If you like seeing smart people throw down with smart people... yeesh.
Hes only good for 90% of the manga. Then he dies like a whiny douce and loses all his cool factor. Granted, hes probably one of the best manga villian to comeout in the 2005-2012 along with Ladd Russo and maybe The Count, but Moriarty has always been such a bloved villian. If you know literature, you know moriarty, that kinda thing. He basically is the big villian of that time period. Anywho just wanted to comment more about the Light Yagami part :P
Ha Ha, I have to say, your reviews are among the most entertaining on the net. I really appreciate your humour and intelligence. As for Sherlock Holmes, you actually convinced me to see this, even though I didn't really like the first one that much. Keep up the great reviews--they are most enjoyable.
Sure, the Joker was great and all, but in my eyes, Hans Landa will never be bested. He was the same as Moriarty: he just spent the whole movie intellectually one-upping his victims.
Funny, all these people claim the movie industry is dead/full of stupid remakes, and yet all the awesome villains I see in these comments are 10 years old or less.
i liked Heath Ledger as Joker, Gollim (like, he is AWESOME!), Magneto, Dr Evil (Austin Powers!), The people who made the female robots in Austin Powers1(LOL EPIC!)
@vanessa29500 I would definitely have to agree with this one. 2 people trying to kill each other when they don't know the other one's name or what they look like, and using the entire world as their pawns. Brilliant.
Sorry to disagree with you on this Jeremy. But for me, this movie is worth buying on blue-ray.
Great cinematography, great acting, excellent story, jaw-dropping action scenes... It had everything in place. Yeah, i agree that it had some lose points, but none of that ruins the great experience you have in this movie.
And of course, like you mentioned, it is so great when Homes meets Moriarty. It´s like an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. (4/5)
Akito from fruits basket he's one of those villians that puts everyone in line. This was a pretty awesome movie I went to go see it yesterday and I agree I also enjoyed professor Moriarty and Holmes they were just so freaking epic I felt like my mind was blown. The actor who played him deserves a thousand chocolates. They did Holmes and Walton's partnership so well I liked how they didn't rely so much on awesome fighting scenes in this. The way they interacted reminded me of magneto and Xavier.
@nilsen93 Oh come now. It's at least close. I couldn't imagine a better villian in my book, rather than professor Moriarty. Although the joker appeared more often and gave more of his personality than the professor, which is why the joker still makes a bigger impression.
Seriously though, who is better than the joker? Name one.
While techniquely he's not a "super-hero"(more of an anti-hero), mine would be Light Yagami from Death Note. Though L from the same show would be a close second.
Michael Scotfield from prison break that dude just scaped from 2 prisons and desmanteled a organization that had control over the goverment he is a geniuos
