Tommy Cooper's brother had a magic shop,near where I used to live in Reading.

My mum told me that a friend had once helped Tommy,when his car had broken down.

Apparently Mr.Cooper was very grateful,and had given this friend an envelop,saying 'Here,have a drink on me.'.

The friend was excited,imagining how much money could be in there.

It wasn't till he'd driven off,that he opened the envelope and there was nothing inside but a tea bag!

Comic genius. Some say that he was probably the most highly paid bloke they knew that did nothing (i.e. messing up tricks, etc.) but boy did he do something! He was a very proficient magician and brilliant comedian. Believe me, no one can mess up a trick like Tommy and make it so damn funny. Alas there'll never be another

The stand-up scene is still incredibly vibrant in the UK, it's the just the small matter of sitcom-output that needs cleaning up. Peep Show is this Millenium's tour de force in that genre, whilst realistic portrayals of life as found in shows such as Inbetweeners can hardly be considered sitcoms.
