@theartofthecovenant Im not used to a rotary but with this one i didnt have to get used to it. just tighten the dampen screw all the way down and then 1-1/2 turns back is the perfect hit for me. It doesnt stop or bog down and the weight! oh how nice is it to just be able to do smooth free moving whips and to flip it around in your hand when you need to. I am pleased with this machine.
i have 2 of these ,,,,,greattttttt lol ,y spend $650.00 ,to c if your even going to like a gragonfly, buy one of these ,the motors aren't maxon ,but they do the job,buy a extra motor for when the china motor fries lol
dragonfly knockoff is as good as the real thing, even the parts work of of the dragonfly,,,,very dajustable , very strong ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i think people take branding to far,buy one of these ,throw a maxon motor in it ,save some money folks
@theartofthecovenant Thats kind of impressive but scary that inkmachines would use plastic when they could have machined the rest of it from aluminium. The bar tension wheel and arm are plastic and the dampening adjustment knob on top are plastic. All of the moving parts inside, and everything else aluminium. Still, for our economy sake Im done buying foreign products unless 1. currency is of fair trade 2. the product is quality. in that order.
@KevinRayKnight I was thinking sorta the same thing when I got mine. But then I though about how it would prolly sound and vibrate if some of those parts were actually aluminum. lol. And then I kinda just zipped it. lol. I mean tho, dude, I'm in no way saying that cheap cant be good. I was just speaking on the topic in light of conversation. But how do you feel about it now that you've used it? Still good?
It's identical. And I had not thought about getting solutions on the parts. The only thing on mine that is plastic is the little wheel that keeps tension on the needle bar. No problem to just keep several backups handy. The rest is made of aluminum. As for the rca, RCA makes for a more steady/solid connection, I know folks have been doing fine with clip cords for a long time but rca really does help. I think I will make my own bracket and fasten it down under the rear posts with plastic washers.
@KevinRayKnight That's not identical to the Dragonfly if there's only one plastic part on it. My Dragonfly has lots of plastic parts. Have fun with it.
Continued... Keith is right in that it is a little delicate but I dont think anything is just gonna break unless you are abusing the machine. It's lightweight and meant to be used like a paintbrush not a color packer. Again this is the FIREFLY not the DRAGONFLY. Right now its hard to say if it was worth $139 but even if the motor has to be replaced it is def. alot cheaper than $650.
@KevinRayKnight Yeah I look at what you're saying and I recall my own experience with the Dragonfly. There is like ZERO room there and you WILL run into a major issue if the install of an RCA isn't done delicately bro. Another thing that really gets to be a pain is the grommet issue *you'll see, and whatever you do, don't let ANY germicidal solution in any form come into contact with those rubberized parts. If you do, that shit'll start breaking down the materials and they gum up and seize.
Got the "firefly" today. Seems solid, I do like the bar tensioner and it is very light. It does not come with the RCA connector but the hole is there for it. If it is an exact copy of the dragonfly I should be able to order the right one from inkmachines. There is virtually no room between the casing and the back of the motor so I checked with inkmachines parts description and it says not to overtighten the nut on the rca connector as it will bind on the back of the motor.
@TATTOOTRAINING Christian Johanssen? Inkmachines. He's their designer. Did the Dragonfly in only about 5 years spent on the drawing table. Nothin major there, just 5 years of hard work and dedication.

Bastards know americans like eye candy and no matter how many people they screw we'll keep buying there cheap junk still dreaming that were getting that ferrari for 90% off. That scenerio is one thing and most of us catch on fast but you got a good point about that crap being marked up... Got one of the stealth knock offs today, Its actually pretty solid except for the crappy aluminum chuck that aint even big enough to get a tube in without taking the thumbscrew all the way out. Half-ass.
Did'nt see a review on the dragon fly knock off I ordered one and will let know know personally in a week or so. Sucks about the motor but then again I can get the good one from ink-machines for about $100. One note about coils, I've had no luch with coils that were plated (shiny) The best coils I have used are from international and they are Iron coils.
@KevinRayKnight i have seen swis rotary motors on line for 60.00 so when the motor starts to get shaky look for one . after i mentioned how they use shity alloy metal, i found china machine makers PAINTING the fucking coil cores and armature bars black . sad pulled some coils from a china machine today that weighed half as much as mine .
@tattootraining, thanks once again for the info you choose to share with us very interesting & usefull info, iv been watching your vids for about 2yrs now & alls i can say is thanks, my machines have been running very smooth & lay'n ink like no tomorrow also im glad to hear your setting up a web site
one way for you guys to avoid it also ( if you pay attention to Tats other vidoes) is take into account the materials that are best for certain parts of the machine. If you can, get the book "tattoo machines and their secrets." its pretty expensive, but luckily i found a few artists that are more than willing to share their stuff and they learned by this book. so check it out. Thanks for the vid TAT
i stay away from anything that says gun. most pros don't use the word gun. i just go with your suggested sites and buy decent frames with good geometry and superior coils. also i look at the metal used.. Too shiny is bad and ive seen those on some sites
