yeah I from Germany too and Even if it might not be as common as it is in Japan, there are still a lot of people ending their live jumping in front of a train. Actually thats how I lost a friend myself. One night she jumped in front of a train from a bridge. Nobody knows why.
I was on a train last week that someone jumped in front of... We were stopped for about 35mins, doors stayed closed. I didnt realise what was going on at first. It was when the fire brigade showed up I suspected. Then seeing a large pool of blood on the platform next to a big bag confirmed it. It felt strange how the train just kept going, like nothing had happened really.
On German train stations they call it "Unfall mit Personenschaden", which roughly translates into "accident involving physical injury". Suicide by train is pretty common in Germany, about 20 incidents per week.
I have read about it in a book called "that's why Japanese people are annoying" from Christoph Neuman, a German journalist, who is living in Japan! He writes that this is really a common thing over there. Don't some people wonder why it is the way it is!?!?
I had BAD experience when I was on the train and someone jumped in front of the train. Can you believe that I felt something bumpy at that moment!! I'm not sure if it's what I'm thinking....hope not. But anyways we were stuck in the train for about 2 hours...No lie. It was about 11 years ago.
I think its terrible when people jump in front of trains. If I was going to kill myself, I wouldn't do it in a way that inconvenienced a bunch of other people. That is very inconsiderate imo.
That only happened to me once in Korea...in Busan. Someone jumped in front of the train I was on. I luckily didn't see anything, but had to get off the train and take a taxi home.
I saw a story on CNN about the forest around Fuji-san. they have even installed special cameras around there to try to stop people from killing themselves!
Maybe you should go to Korea, or Thailand or the PI Japan, is hardly the most perverted country in the world. but unlike the United States most countries do not demonize sex and perversions they just chalk them up to natural human instinct.
I can see how you might disagree with my responce to your comment, If you do just go to the nearest Navy base and ask any sailor that has been on a westpac, or medcruise and they can surly tell you where the most perverted places are.
dude its like suicide club where all those girls held hands and jumped in front of the train together, freaking awesome...well not really but anyways thank busan kevin for this wonderful insight hope to see you again soon
You gotta love the good ol' 人身事故 announcment. It's so vague. I used to tell my students that it means, "some sort of human-train interaction has taken place."
Yeah...that is vague, but at the same time, everyone knows what it means. Of course, when all of the trains are late by 30-50 minutes and it's a beautiful sunny morning....everyone knows what's up then too!
You're right, it is pretty freaky. Even more so since it's telling everyone at the stations what happened. I'd definitely be down for a while if I saw that on my way somewhere.
thats sad

Good name for a rock band. Maybe if they recognized the concept of mental illness and didn't blame it on evil spirits....

I'm sure that's a joke many frustrated commuters say!
BusanKevin 2 years ago
wow thats creepy, but whats even more creepy is how they made up a term for it as if it were an everyday thing (which it probably is).
freeofgreed 2 years ago
to be honest, it pretty much is. There was a period last year where my train was late 3 days in one week for that same reason :(
BusanKevin 2 years ago
wo, that much!?
freeofgreed 2 years ago
That is disgusting. The loss of life is horrible.

I agree

ong! How horrible! they could at least lie and say something else. But I suppose America shelters there people lol
WildRebecca 2 years ago
I suppose they are just being honest to the train's customers. The "train late due to seismic activity" one I saw once really freaked me out!
BusanKevin 2 years ago
wow. wow in a bad way that is, due to lack of more appropriate words coming to mind.
goosebumps! argh @ being on a train that hit a jumper... xx'

i read that JR often charges the family of the "jumper" for damages caused to the train, track, delays, clean-up, etc.
winDragon79 2 years ago
Yeah....the other train lines apparently do that as well.

Why were you there... OH NO BUSAN KEVIN!!!! I SWEAR ULL GET MORE AND MORE SUBSCRIBERS!!!!!!!! DONT JUMP!!!

no worries...the only time I jump is when there is a special at the pizza shop...then I'm jumping for joy!

In Japan, I heared more people are jumping into trains because of the economical recession. It is sad..

the new tube stations in london have a barrier to prevent the "accidents"
murasakiryu 2 years ago
it's a bit more of a logistical challenge to do this for above ground stations. The idea has come up a time or two.

Many subway stations here have those "suicide doors", but for some reason, the train stations don't. I think they should.
