During the times of these events or crisises the overall macroeconomic health of the United States differed. For example, sticking to the finincial segment rather than the listed wars, yes, we have been told many times crises was coming or indeed apparent, and we did indeed move on to future "prosperity".But the real cycle to look at is the growth of government.

In my opinion, UK unemployment rates are much higher than the official figures. The number of people on disability benefits has quadrupled since 1979. Are we getting sicker as a nation or have successive governments found it easier to shunt the long term unemployed off onto disability benefits to make the unemployment figures look better?

Charlie, if you fail to raise the debt ceiling before you've cut the budget and gotten into the neighborhood of a balanced budget, then he's right. It would be catastrophic. That's not a veiled threat at all. It's a solid fact. If you simply cut off the government's ability to spend anymore money, then you simply have no more government and it's all over. He's absolutely right. They must cut the budget before they can stop raising the debt ceiling. These are just facts Charlie, not threats.

Charlie, if you fail to raise the debt ceiling before you've cut the budget and gotten into the neighborhood of a balanced budget, then he's right. It would be catastrophic. That's not a veiled threat at all. It's a solid fact. If you simply cut off the government's ability to spend anymore money, then you simply have no more government and it's all over. He's absolutely right. They must cut the budget before they can stop raising the debt ceiling. These are just facts Charlie, not threats.

@veritasfiles The point is -- the only way to clean this mess up is to stop the uncontrolled spending and that is something our corrupt and criminal institutions will never do. The only things you will get from them are token cuts for the purpose of political manipulation. Our current system is not fixable under its current form. example: When held to a self-imposed balanced budget they used the Social Security trust fund to balance the budget and have been stealing from it ever since.

If you fail to raise the debt ceiling before massive cuts are made, then you are pulling the trigger early. Not a good idea.

Pretty sad...I just came from the gym & had to cycle next to 2 morons standing in front of me- rubber necking upwards & bitching that the fit. center wouldn't change the tv channel so they could watch their team play. U have all this chaos unfolding that could totally destroy THEIR quality of life & it's more important to watch bracket-ball than be concerned of the radiation coming to the coast or the beginning of a war & potentially $5+ a gallon gas. Broke more sweat in their jaws. Just sad.

@slobomotion The Navy? I doubt that one. They have no real mean's of actually maintaining control over anything. The Navy has no ground troop's and none of them are really trained for ground combat. You can't take over something without boot's on the ground. It's just not going to happen.

On June of 2012, the events of this week will be happening at an exact angle (according to western astrology).
