With the whole hype of Ichigo and his crew going to hell made it seem really, REALLY epic.

i think almost all the bad guys in this arc (at least the new ones) are based on the concept of the four horse men, so maybe Death took ichigo's sister knowing ichigo is the only one strong enough to brake the gates of hell, then they all escape and wreck havoc on soul society
