  • Man, that was incredible! A true work of genius! Well done!!!

  • This gave me a major nerdgasm.

  • i remember this article and then it being a hoax and i was angry it wasn't real, this makes up for it

  • And another thing: I just couldn't see Orson Welles as Batman. I'm sorry, I just couldn't. I just can't help thinking of him as an unathletic fat man, even though he wasn't that chubby when he was younger.

Bruce Wayne/Batman would have been a next-to-impossible role to cast in the 1940s. There weren't many actors who could do both "tough" and "good-looking sophisticated" equally well. I'm thinking Cary Grant as Bruce Wayne and Gary Cooper as Batman, but of course they're not the same person.

  • @SeasideDetective2

I think something you have to put into context is that people weren't in "shape" the way they are today. You wouldn't find an actor matching Bruce Wayne's physique and even that aspect of Batman wasn't really a focal point until the early 70's. I think Welles had the right height, build, and deep voice to pull off a 1940's style Batman.

  • This would have been well-cast, especially the roles of Commissioner Gordon and Catwoman. But why wouldn't Edward G. Robinson have had a putty "beak," like every other actor who has portrayed the Penguin in live action?

  • So, who "plays" the Joker?

  • @RavnDream Conrad Veidt from The Man Who Laughs, the movie that inspired Jerry Robinson to create Batman´s nemesis. What you see there is the original Joker (The Man Who Laughs was released 11 years before the creation of Batman)

  • @teddyrocker Thanks. =)

  • WONDERFUL !!!

Very creative job. It´s a pity that Welles doesn´t finish his masterwork (He He)...

Just a little criticism: The Joker looks like Stan laurel, (and it´s hard to believe in his cruelty)!!!

  • Great trailer, cleverly edited; it makes wish this actually existed!

  • I would have bought this trailer, if the costume weren't so SILLY LOOKING... Otherwise, FANTASTIC JOB!

  • "You long faced, over dressed anarchist!" Haha It's amazing how that line from Citizen Kane perfectly captures the Joker.

  • @2:51 Ungawa! That boy is Johnny Sheffield a.k.a. Boy in the Tarzan movies with Johnny Weismuller.

  • IF ONLY!..Hehehehehe GREAT JOB SIRRUS!...Conrad Veidt - Original Joker!

  • Bigs ups for Conrad Veidt!

  • It's funny cuz even though this is a faux trailer made from clips of other, unrelated movies taken out of context, I find it's really perfect at embodying everything I love about Batman as a character - the music and Welles' deep, somber voice help, but it's really a marvel of editing.

  • Greatly done

  • Interesting concept...and superb editing.

  • What's the name of the song that plays through 1:10-1:1:35?

  • this would've been the greatest movie ever made... better than Citizen Kane!!

  • You are such a dick!

  • This is masterful editing

nice nod to Joseph Cotten there lol

    great job

  • Haha, very good. Impressive, in fact.

  • OMG!! Look at 1:08 ...Conrad Veidt from The Man who Laughs !!, Was he going to play The Joker?!

  • No. The joker was inspired by his version of the man who laughs.

  • yes, i've heard that its were bob kane got the idea from, but why is Gwynplaine in this trailer?

  • who else would you include? He's the closest thing to an old time movie joker.

  • @Rorschach2710 In fact it wasn´t Bob Kane but Jerry Robinson who created the Joker.

  • Again, Brilliant!

  • Very funny and well done!

  • You have to include Conrad Veidt as the Joker, even if he WAS dead in 1947. If he's in your video AS the Joker, including him in your cast is only right.

  • That was amazing! Another good director for an old Batman film would've been Fritz Lang.

  • @Cam1020 Fritz Lang would be better directing Superman than Batman.

  • I tried to use as much as possible from Orson Welles movies - so used a clip from The Trial - it's Anthony Perkins laughing!

  • really?! It's absolutely terrifying!!

Nice use of Veidt footage from The Man Who Laughs...Couldn't really be anybody else, could it!

Utterly superb. 10 out of 10

  • A lot of thought went into this...a fine piece. Kudos.

  • K so if this is fake then hats off to the author.... just entirely too plausible.... much kudos Mr Welles woulda made an interesting Bat Man indeed...

  • If only this were real.

  • did this ever hit the screen i want to see this if it is please reply

  • No, it is just a fan trailer I put together as a bit of fun! Glad you liked it!

  • Holly Shit that is so Wonderful!

  • If only the master of cinema as we know it could have brought the greatest superhero to life for the first time. Brilliant.

  • Brilliant. Absolutely believable. Who said Orson Welles was dead? He was with you the whole time.

  • That's really good. Who was that for the 'Joker' segment? Scary.

  • I think it was Conrad Veidt from "The Man Who Laughs," which was the inspiration for the Joker in the first place.

  • Really? Didn't know that. Very cool, thanks for the info.

  • Wow. How I would have loved to have watched that were it real. Great job man!!!

  • very impressive, great cast. The joker's really terrifing and the penguin's just too much:). It would have made a classic if Orson Wells would have done it.

Great job that you could be prood of.

  • Beautiful. That is real class. I loved it.

  • Edward G. Robinson as the Penguin is a brilliant idea!

  • THis is different from the other fan films. No better only more...artistic!

    Bravo! Damn good job!

  • You let my secret out... Grr...

  • gorgeous.

    realistic.

    superb!

movie credits for non-film buffs like me would've been nice, but still, superb!

  • That's good editing. Too bad it wasn't real. It's just a mix mash of different movies, notably "The Man Who Laughs", the movie that inspired the creators of Batman to create the Joker. It also has footge of the Columbia Pictures Bat-man serials.

By the way, another tip of that its a fake is that Selina Kyle and the Penguin weren't named until later, and Catwoman was simply known as "The Cat" in that period in the comics.

    Owned.

However, Orson Welles did have interest in making a Batman movie.

  • Well, DUH! Of course its fake!

Mark Millar wrote this whole thing about Wells doing Batman, back in the day. So Wells wanting to do this film is the fake thing. (look it up on wiki) This guy just ran with the idea. And in an excellent way.

  • Ahh if this was real, it could've been the best film of all time..!

  • God damn, fabulously well cut. I just wish it actually was made.. oh well.

  • Amazing bro

  • Hi, anyone interested in downloading the trailer - have a look on Limewire, as I've put it up for sharing (though not connected all day).

    Cheers!

  • this is genius. I hope you can give us a part 3 somehow, with two face?

  • OK, if this movie was at the theater, I would pay $10 to see it. Unlike 'Batman Begins,' which I still regret paying $5 to see, 3 flippin' years ago.

  • Is it true that Charles Laughton was gonna play King Tut?

  • This is awesome. Wish I could hear Dietrich's final line though. But along with part 1 this makes me so hungry for a film that doesn't exist and never will!

  • "Why don't you stay here? I don't always cheat and lie!"

    Thanks for the kind words.

  • Orson Welles as Batman and Marlene Dietrich as Catwoman is pretty much the best idea ever in the history of best ideas ever.

  • with EG robinson as Penguin! Perfect

  • Awesome. This must have taken a while to put together. Well done, its really good. Have you got a version that can be downloaded from somewhere? Love to play this on my projector screen :-)

  • Hi, thanks for your kind words. Not sure how to make it available for download - PM me if you have any suggestions!

  • While not real, this trailer i by far the best thing i see about a Batman movie.Too bad that it's fan-made.

  • The greatest film never made!

  • That was amazing. I actually want to see this movie now.

Just a few minor complaints, though. The picture was kind of dark (probably not really your fault, as the source material was a lot of film noir), it was hard to hear at times, and I don't understand why you split it in two when the whole thing combined was less than ten minutes.

  • this is simply brilliant, its as if the batman characters were all based upon Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, Marlene Deitrich, and Conrad Veidt (actually the Joker WAS based on him), this is like Batman meets the original Scarface...fucking brilliant man!

  • I thought it was Basil Rathbone who played the joker was it not?

  • this is beautiful; thanks for sharing it.

  • It's actually supposed to follow directly after 'Part 1' - they are two halves of one trailer; I had to split it in half as it was too big! 'M' is a great suggestion; I wish I had thought of that!

Many thanks for the kind words - it did take ages to make!

  • Not as good as the first one. maybe u should point out that it's batman 2 and focus it entirely on the joker(not robin or catwoman). and use footage from the movie "M" to come up with great shots of a city driven to fear by the mad man.

  • obviously its not real, but thats not the point. the fact is i think this is a really well-made and entertaining video, a lot of work obviously went into producing it and Sirrus if you made this then well done to you, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

  • Hey symbiote24! Thanks for your intelligent and well thought-out analysis! It's so great to have someone like you on this site to let us know whether or not something is good! You, like, totally rock! Now go away and update your MySpace page...and grow a brain if you can.
