  • Eh, it's tragic and all... but we just can't maintain the decadence of yesteryear. Some might argue that that's social evolution, I might agree. it's the hanging on to such things that drags us down as well. Urban decay is part of change, you could postulate that it's "karma" for greed and avarice of the motor city, "Motors runnin' on Tucker's Blood" as Jack White of the White Stripes once said in "The Big Three Killed my Baby"

  • Detroit,Flint and Toledo, Akin to gold rush towns who's gold dried up.

By the late 30s/early 40s all these places were failing, because the market was changing.

If it wasn't for WW2 giving new life to old manufacturing plants, they would of been history.

As it stands now Detroit is too over populated for its infrastructure, nothing can ever replace the auto/war manufacturing industry.

Another HUGE issue is the more people leave the more human trash is left behind,no one will invest in them

  • They didn't even try to give away or sell the books in the library? What a waste and shame.

  • This is so sad....

  • All the blacks families with a means to get out will and relocate to peruse a better life. So what happens with all the black families that don't have a means to get out? They get shit n on and forgotten about and the whites move in and push them out so that they dominate the area. All of a sudden police are everywhere in that neighborhood???

  • Why always blame politics? What about the peoples who are living in Detroit? Could them do anything to avoid this happen? I feel really sad when i see this pictures, but at the same time i feel that it is exciting to have places like this. No matter: Detroit doesn't deserve a future like this!!

  • @Wisswass, the productive people were taxed, regulated and harassed out of the city. Once the businesses left, the rest was inevitable. Socialism is societal cancer; this is the result. It's not just politics, it's ETHICS. As long as victims have a means of escape, they will leave and what you have left are the ones who won over the territory. This is what the victors produce. Period.

  • People want to blame the collapse of Detroit on Democrats and the failure of the local industry.

    Wrong.

Pittsburgh also had Democrat mayors and also saw the collapse of their primary industry. They rebounded and remade themselves into a great city.

    Why?

    Pittsburgh: 67% White, 22% Black.

    Detroit: 85% Black, 10% White.

Pittsburgh has never had a black mayor.

Detroit has had only black mayors since '74.

Race = genes. Society and culture = gene expression. Simple as that.

  • @eleutheromaniac I believe they call it "white flight". Its what happens when all the productive people move out of a city and leave it to the degenerates.

  • It's a shame! It makes me feel so sick, to see these impressions from a city once was full of proud and glory. Everybody on earth, who ever owned and loved a car, knows Detroit. I had to hold my tears back, when i saw all these awesome buildings with their history and glory getting wreck and ruin. Especally the libarys and theaters touched my heart and nearly get me crying. I can't belive seeing this. This is history, education and culture! Everything the human race normaly is proud of...

  • Gimme a break it's a result of great planning. The Government knew the auto market would reach an end for profits so now they are re-building Detroit as the first ALL GREEN AMERICAN CITY. FARMERS FIELDS GET IT TO RE LINE THEIR POCKETS WITH PROFITS. IT'S A JOKE AND WHY DOES NO-ONE SEEM TO REALLY CARE. THEY LEAVE GARBAGE AROUND SO NO-ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN DETROIT SO THEY CAN DEMOLISH AND FARM THE LANDS. 2012 SUCKS???????????

  • If I were a billionaire, I would not buy a mansion or something else, I would buy up the old property in detroit and fix them up to get the city back to the glory it once was.

  • So how much could you buy a house/property for there now?

  • if there ever was a hell on earth this place wud be it, a shit hole.

  • All that time I-could've been healing without avoidable confrontation Cowboy...

What you gonna-do when the collateral catches-up with you in the afterlife...?

  • When you get rid of manufacturing jobs ,in the same stroke you did the same with middle class!

What do we have that other countries want ? what do we make that others will buy?

We make nothing much but still consume way too much! We are the debtors and the Asians are the creditors

How much time do we have left? Long as the world doesn't come up with another reserve currency to replace the USD. Its just matter of time!

  • some grand houses

  • Manufacturing in our nation is either First or Second in the world depending on the statistics one uses. The current issue of Atlantic magazine (January-February) has a lead article entitled, MAKING IT IN AMERICA: HOW TO CREATE AND KEEP A JOB IN OUR GLOBALIZING, MECHANIZING, BRUTALIZING (possibly revitalizing!) ECONOMY. The key is education and competition in the world market. I lived in Detroit in the early fifties when unskilled labor could make a middle class living. It is forever over.

  • I totally agree with the uploader. This had absolutely nothing to do with corporate greed with their millions of dollars of year end bonuses or corrupt carreer politions with their lavish backdrops. This was all the union's fault! Yes, let's blame the destruction of our country on organizations who's total combined membership is less then 10% of the population. Damn they are powerful!

  • My God! A city that thrived for generations.. An auto industry that gave us the middle class and gave people a good living..Gone. Crumbling and decaying into dust in just one generation. Most of the smart people desperately left and found a new life elsewhere.

The city is being destroyed. Gangs, drugs, crime.. it isn't racist.. it's accurate. Anybody with the money and the brains leave for better suroundings. Detroit? Go ahead and write it off as a painful lesson. East Atlanta is the same.

  • Corrupt socialist politicians and union entitlements, had a big part in the collapse of Detroit. Right now, we got a marxist president that wants to turn our whole country into one big Detroit.Thank you black people and white guilters, for voting for skin color over the Constitution back in '08.

  • Thank you NAFTA & GATT!

  • @MRWAYLAND You are right on! I have a huge problem with NAFTA and this new global economy.

  • The free market.

This will be every city in the US in 20 years as all our businesses will be 'free' to fuck off to China for cheap labour.

Only the few peosper in the free market, generally those who were rich and/or well connected in the first place.

People are valued by how much produce more or consume. Usually both.

Until the marker decides you are no longer useful.

You then become homeless and are treated as a parasite.

  • The suburbanization of America also contributed in a large way. The Interstate Highway System made life outside the city possible for millions, causing urban neglect. Those left behind were mostly black and poor, unwelcome and ill equipped for the new destination. The irony is that now, as decay hits the burbs, we see the problem being repeated. Apparently, we are doomed to repeat our mistakes, content to retreat into the scapegoat of racism. Who's to blame but ourselves?

  • You can't blame this on an ethnic group. Detoit fell victim to policy, corruption, changing demographics (suburbs) and a collapsing local economy. Ask yourself why so many poor found their way here. Also, how many jobs are available, how funded is education, police and fire, etc? No, the cause lies in the factories overseas that have replaced those here. But when you say that Deroit's problems are because blacks are born that way, you turn your back and contribute to the problem.

  • ugh... leave it to us whites to blame it all on the blacks... Nevermind the fact that Detroit was and always will be the first and only large city to supply for themselves and go it alone... while they did an amazing effort and lasted much longer then most large cities in America would have everything must come to an end. Not to mention there is still a lot of beauty and pride in Detroit... take it from a person who is proud to call Michigan home... this video shows the worst...

  • I can tell you what went wrong with Detroit in two words. 1. Liberals, 2. Blacks. This combination is as dangerous as TNT and nothing can withstand it.

  • Fuck Detroit and the east coast. California Love baby.

  • this is the result of green politics and multicuturalism

  • Why is this happening?

  • The architecture is simply beautiful and utterly amazing. It makes me sad to see this.

  • How in the hell did this happen

  • @carpetime Globalism took over, the tiny elite hoarded everything to themselves, hastily grabbed control over the United States and turned it into an Orwellian police state that it is now.

  • @katasaifa I couldn't agree with you more, katasaifa. Many years of political incompetence, venal corruption, greedy unions drove out the industry that was the tax base and major employer. Now there's nothing left but people on the dole and no income with which to pay them. The city has lost half it's population and more than a quarter is abandoned and crumbling. Truly a tragedy, preventable but for human greed and stupidity.

  • wtf music

  • @Hugobros3 Music is "Shine On (Melodic Trance)". There are several versions of this piece available.from Hartwig Media, a German company that produces royalty-free music for film, video game and presentation soundtracks.

  • The Public Library is a tragedy .

  • So Sad, It is the result of a handout nation, no initiative that our citizens had as this country was founded. People are content to sit around and whine "

Take care of me '. The members of my family came here and worked hard never expecting a handout. They helped to build what the current inhabitants tore down. The Unions contributed to this and the future will be under a socialist Marxist

    regime

  • @jaydeecarr Yes, indeed. Totally agree.

  • @rdolivaw we need to take our city back, Detroit used to be jewel, I hope that someday in my lifetime it will be again.

  • @jaydeecarr you need to stop blabbering american and read Karl Marx first

  • @UberVersatile This nation was built on liberty and freedom. Marxism takes and controls. Find a communist country go there and stay if you like it so much.

  • @jaydeecarr Well I'm not really that ideological to call me anything. But concerning taking and giving. It all depends on how you look at it.First of all it was sensless, unpatriotic greed which destroyed your industry by moving its production to third world countries. Not socialism but unchecked, free market capitalism.

Secondly yes America was built on freedom. The freedom to walk anywhere, settle anywhere, shop down any trees, use any free resource. Now corporations own land and resource.

  • @jaydeecarr People should IMO stop being petty and blame each other over ideology or religion. Instead they should look at the world like the revolutionaries of the old did: Any struggle against an unwanted and unjust attempt by a person or group of people to gain dominion and power over others is a valiant one.

No matter if that's a huge and corrupt government, a cleptomanic and degenerate church or a cluster of evil corporations and banksters.

  • @jaydeecarr It really is incredible what kind of destruction black people can cause.

  • @jaydeecarr great comment man. Your absolutely right!

  • @jaydeecarr As a Detroit native, I can tell you don't know crap about the city or its history. Save the whining for people who care.

  • @jaydeecarr My grandmother's parents were Italian immigrants and they founded themselves by hard work and not by pity. Hope to respect their example.

  • Thats silly. Intitlements are not what killed Detroit. Social security and medicaid are both intitlements which people seem to forget. What cause Detroit to collapse was the move from being a "producer society" to a "consumer society". Wall street and their post industrial society, their cancerous speculative superstructure is what caused the disentigration of Detroit. Other cities will and are following. FDR policies were replaced by post industrial policies and society. Simple as that.

  • @jaydeecarr - i wish that through some magic

every person who gets welfare could have superimposed above their head the amount of other people's money they've gotten. And with a little more magic, maybe several figures would be in view:

    1) the most recent amount they received

    2) amount received up to present day, and

    3) the total amount of money they will ever get in their lifetime

We don't really see the money changing hands, and so the crushing amount of handouts is not apparent.

  • @jaydeecarr Very sad all that hard work in those buildings let go.What a wast full crapy country this is!!!. My great , great grandfather came here from county Galway in the 1800's with nothing and left this world owning 3 companys boy would he be sad to see what has become of the US. I hope soon to bring the family name bach home to galway and leave this country for good!!!.

  • @jaydeecarr You're spot on. I couldn't agree with you more.

  • @jaydeecarr I agree we now have a "take care of me" society started a few generations ago. 50% of all US citizens are receiving some kind of aid from the gov't. I have read of such people calling themselves entrepreneurs for making babies. Look it up.

  • @pipersmitty87 the unions, not so much.

  • Fewer every day.

  • so do people live in detroit??

  • @B3NN10N About half the number that lived there when I was growing up in southeast Michigan sixty-some years ago. A quarter of its area is abandoned and turning back into prairie (with ruins among the weeds and grass). I hear the Chinese are buying up large tracts of the abandoned property from the city and state.

  • @rdolivaw oh great so the US will turn into a socialist marxist hell hole owned by the chinese

    fuck!

  • @B3NN10N NO PEOPLE, JUST NEGRO'S.

  • @capalonga007 Believe it or not, our economy would implode on itself if we did not trade globally. China relies on us and we rely on them. Detroit failed due to relentless demands of the United Auto Workers.. a LABOR UNION. Unions = BAD.

  • @09ThunderOne Yes.

  • @capalonga007 The factories could've been moved to Detroit, with all the space it had, not to mention skilled workers that were unemployed. The problem was that the mentality in Detroit was a stubborn one; there was a lot of anti-technology feeling in Detroit in the 80's. I guess the city wanted something more of a "macho" job for the workers, which is why all the computers were made either in Silicon Valley or in Asia.

  • Apocalypse

  • wow detroit is done!

  • @capalonga007 people will buy the cheapest stuff, it is just a natural flow.

  • i love those chairs in those chruches

  • The William Livingstone house was demolished FIVE YEARS AGO.

  • Farwell Building was purchased by the Michigan Land Bank 2 yrs ago.

  • Where is the EAST SIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY? Never heard of it.

  • Song ?

  • They should just bulldozed the whole thing and fence around it and let the grass grow and don't let anyone in it. And keep it Clean and Green Again and Start all over again!

  • @r2ro43

Detroit has a population of 700,000. Bulldozing it would leave them all homeless.

  • They should just bulldozed the whole thing and fence around it and let the grass grow and don't let anyone in it. And keep it Clean and Green Again and Start all over again!

  • wow... it reminds me of prypiat :S sad city.

  • White people built Detroit from desolation into a beautiful community with a thriving economy. WHAT HAPPENED?

  • Such awesome architecture just waisting away. What a shame.
