  • No flute solo... :( Greg Lake is awesome.

  • I think Haskell's shaky, hoarse voice gives the original recording a certain delicate charm. Nevertheless, thanks for sharing this version!

  • if this version exsisted all along, then why were we subjected to the other version?

  • @Dolores5000

Maybe Fripp Chose Haskell just out of spite, 'cause Lake had quit the band during the recording sessions of "Poseidion" ;-)

  • @mrsalzano from what ive read there was no hard feelings? maybe Fripp wanted to push Haskell, since he was to be the singer. iv'e always liked this tune alot and had to get used to the voice, i was soooo excited to know Gregs voice is there now!

  • He sings it so beautifully, I love his voice. This sounds great, why didn't they use this version on the original album?

  • I can't believe this wasn't the single off "Poseidon." It's stunning, sung either by Lake or Haskell.

  • Amo cada composcición de King Crimson.

  • WOW

  • Fripp...

  • Any recording of Greg Lake is a good listen, but his take on the album is THE ONE.

  • Beautiful!

  • My favourite King Crimson song, along with Indoor Games and Moonchild.

  • Greg, crimson, legends, what else can you say?

  • While im listening this song, I feel happy, but crying at same time.

  • I love the guitar

    the flute

    and the poetry

  • I love YouTube.

  • @rmtmiller I love King Crimson

  • Greg Lake came back long enough to record this version.

  • Thank you for posting this. I named my first child (Cadence) for this song, and it means so much to me to hear the Greg Lake version after all these years. Cadence doesn't completely understand where here name come from, but she is a happy 38 year old woman. I should buy the 40th anniversary release of In the Wake of Poseidon.

  • Part of the charm of Greg Lake's early ballads is the slight uncertainty of his vocals

  • I love Greg Lake's work with King Crimson and ELP but the Gordon Haskell version has more feeling.

  • I still don't understand. If Lake sang the vocal on the original take, they should have just added the flute solo at the end of this take and--voila--included it on the original album, thus having Lake sing every track. Why have an inferior vocalist sing it when a take with the original vocalist survived? Weird.

  • where can I get a copy of this version?

  • @capoeira26 It's a bonus track of the recent reissue of the "Poseidon" album (40th Anniversary Edition).

  • @mrsalzano Thanks a bunch!

  • @capoeira26 it was actually available as a download,on DGM live,an then it was released in the 40th aniversary edition

  • The wonderful flute is missing... but it's beautiful anyway.

  • i don't understand what are you doing.

The "original" is in the album "in the wake of poseidon". In this album Greg Lake was de vocalist. Why do you talk about Haskell???

  • @Dragonflyesc

In that album, Gordon Haskell sang only in "Cadence and Cascade" because at that time Lake has already left KC to join EL&P. Then Haskell played the bass and sang in all the tracks of "Lizard" (except the segment "Prince Rupert Awakes" of the suite).

  • @mrsalzano mmm...thanks for the info :D

  • @mrsalzano It's true.

  • @mrsalzano Prince Rupert Awakes is sung by Jon Anderson.

  • @mrsalzano Very knowledgable, do you know if there is an album (CD) out there that includes the Pharoa Sanders Cover " The Creator has a Master Plan" ? thanks, Hi from Fresnillo Mexico

  • @MrPaco137

LIVE AT SUMMIT STUDIOS 1972 - The 9th Collectors' Club release (February, 2000).

  • @mrsalzano Thanks

  • I love Greg's voice, but I think this version would have been so much better with the flute solo at the end!

  • @ SIEG32 In my humble opinion we have to remember that this is an early take of the song, so Lake's voice is a bit uncertain. Neverthless I always prefer Lake over Haskell singing a King Crimson Song.

  • lol the "caravan hotel" part...is just horrible...

    the original is wayyy better

    IMO...

  • @SIEG32 the caravan hotel part was still horrible in the original

  • Awesome.

  • OK, the Lake Vocals are PERFECT! But I have not been able to find Adrian Belew's overdubbed version of it from 1991 produced by Fripp and Singleton

......he is also PERFECT for the song......

I can hardly stand ANYTHING Gordon Haskell sings.......sorry GH :(

  • A bit better with Gordon Haskell but I say it's a pity that Greg quitted King Crimson. I love ELP but King Crimson was better.

  • Thanks for adding. It's just beautiful.
