You know... I can't even remember what software I used. I just googled "video capture software" and played around with a few free ones. I know FRAPS is supposed to be pretty good if you want to spend $37.
Awesome rig, I have the OptiTrack mocap, but am only cutting my teeth on all of this. Is there a tutorial for this rig? It's great to see something like this exists, I was just wondering if it was possible to combine a KF and Mocap rig. Excellent work. I really need to learn this. Thanks for your help. Maybe you can do a Gnomon or Private "full step by step". I understan MoBu can do this but would be great to do it all in maya for convenience and time.
I'm pretty busy with a new job right now, but I can try for a tutorial if you think it would be worth it. This rig was done in 2003... before Motionbuilder was as robust as it now is. It is a pretty complicated rig... not at all easy to set up. I think most people would prefer to just use Motionbuilder now. Let me know if you're still interested.
Don't get me wrong... I still have clients who use this type of rig in Maya. It's great to be able to create a rig that meets your exact needs... it's just not as easy as Motionbuilder.
I wouldn't dare waste your time. I understand it is extremely valuable. I see this as a GREAT value and though I'm not a seasoned veteran of Maya yet, I have been working with Mocap in other apps at least over a decade ago. I study many advanced rigs from Gnomon, CGtoolkit and Digital Tutors. Let me know if I can compensate you for your expertise. Maybe all I need is to now how the KF rig is attached to the MC rig? Constraints? also the IK dampening is awesome. Utility node?
3dsmax 2009 has a new animation layering system. I'm wondering if Maya 2009 will have this feature. One of the reasons why I don't use FBIK in Maya is the lack of animation layers, so I usually stay in MotionBuilder for cleanup. Your rig is interesting and solves lots of issues with cleanup. I was using something not quite as advanced utilizing "average" nodes to have multiple skeletons drive the same skin skeleton. Nice work!

Since you built a Tiger Woods model, did you make sure that no polygonal tearing occurs when it humps women like crazy?

@AdamKerow you can also use hypercam, but you have to buy it or else you get an annoying box saying 'unregistered cam'

Thanks! I hope they do build layering into Maya. I've heard there is a plugin for layering... not sure how it works.
matthatter808 3 years ago
Yeah, it's called NeoReel. We use it here at work and it's not too bad.

Cool, I will check it out. Where's "work"?

I work at a Digital Arts College(Ex'pression College) in Emeryville, CA and I also occasionally freelance for Activision.
