  • I am currently doing a playthrough of the original game on the master system :D

  • PS2? I bet a DS could handle these graphics!

  • i cant even find the road pass. . . help me?

  • is there an English version?

  • @platolol there isn't an official english version, BUT some ppl from Brazil and others countries are making a BIG effort to translate this game to portuguese; as I know, they will release the codes for other ppl to make it into english as well, since the first difficult there is to "remove" the japanese hiragana/katana whatsoever and "fit" OUR letters.

  • @yuri2004x Actually an English translation has been started on the 2nd game. I can't post links on youtube, but go to romhacking net and in the translations forums is a thread for this. The guy already found a translator and they've begun inserting the script. They uploaded pics to prove it on the board.

  • WOW....This looks....TERRIBLE!

Typical SEGA, always cutting corners and being lazy as hell. And it shows...The animation is abysmal.

  • @djfakt This was made for sega saturn... ignorance is a bliss?

  • @DaftViz this game was made for Sony Playstation 2.

  • @yuri2004x no it was remastered for it :P

  • @DaftViz yes, the ORIGINAL game, "Phantasy Star", was made for SMS. THIS game, from Sega Ages Collection for PS2, "Phantasy Star: Generation 1", is for Sony Playstation 2, and yes, it is a 'remake' or 'remastering' as you said, from the original game, but with obvious graphic enhancement, and a few more differences.

  • @yuri2004x

So there was no point of us arguing from the beginning. Love it as it is.

  • Now this looks like some serious fun. I really like what they did with this...shame it wasn't released over here.

  • Finding an English translation is hard as hell, and i hate using computer emulators.

To bad this never came out in America.

  • it's too bad this was never released in North America. They did the same with Phantasy Star II as well. I would have bought it. I have the Sonic Genesis collection for PS3 too so I've got all the main games but this remake looks great. It's nice to see character sprites in battles.

  • Ryan489:

    I prefer the original versions on my Genesis-thank-you-very-much. ;) ;) ;)

Would've been nice though to have had these ported.

  • Genesis / Master System

  • Yeah, the Master System version was great too.

I liked it a lot. The only thing that annoyed me was some of the monster attack sound effects, they got kind of irritating

  • Yes! Those damn monster attack sound effects. FInally somebody who agrees with me, my GOD were those annoying as heck!

  • Is this available for US platfom ps2's?

  • @mrbooger33333 No it's not..

the game quality was to low for NA standards

  • looks like an awesome remake of phantasy star 1... the dungeons are actually in 3d, awesome

  • this is on the sega master system. it was superior to the nes at the time....you can tell by looking at this video!

  • this isn't the Master System version, it's the ps2 remake, but the original is sweet for its age.

  • This game looks like lots of fun. I am not really heavy into RPGs either. I have Phantasy Star games on the Sonic Ultimate Sega Genesis disc for PS3. Don't tell me to get the real Sega carts either. I am poor lol.

  • lol jap.where can download this game?pliz

  • fuckin epic O.O

  • I have plans to create 3-d remakes of popular 2-d games &cult classics, but for the case with bad games, such as Phantsy Star 3 & Double Dragon 3, i'd rather do them as completely different games to rid them of much of the ick factor.

  • maybe you should just come up with a new plan like comming up with a truly epic way to An hero.

  • maybe you should just come up with a new plan like comming up with a truly epic way to An hero.

  • Was this released in the USA????

  • Nope. It was cancelled. I think someone should start a petition to for it be released.

  • aww, so there's no chest to open at the end of each fight? ;.;

  • This is PS2?

  • no, it's Phantasy Star 1 Generation.

  • No, I mean PS 2 as in playstation 2. The quality doesn't look like it's playstation 2.

  • Lol, I never got PSO, but I have PSU, and from the looks of it, PSO looked awesome! Too bad servers are gone! Stupid japs..

  • Get Phantasy Star Zero for Nintendo Ds when it comes out next year. It'll have 4 player online co-op

  • I hope Sega acknowledges that petition to release the remakes for the Phantasy Star games. They owe it to us after those terrible recent Sonic games.

  • I doubt that will happen, unfortunately.

Not just because of the usual reason some games from Japan don't come to America but also due to another reason-

The Ages project for the Phantasy Star series was apparently canceled in favor of just releasing ports of the old games. They did remakes for 1 and 2, but apparently gave up on, or never even worked on 4.

Still, I do share your desire for these to come out here...

  • Cool, always wanted to see this.

  • Sega of Japan are notorious for being dicks to their American subsidiaries, many of the Saturn's finest games were only ever released in Japan and then there was the incident of the Mega Drive 32X add-on which was designed by the Americans while the Saturn was being developed in Japan in secret, leading to the add-on being an even more humungous failure than the Mega-CD. Sega of Japan were and still are bastards unworthy of the fantastic creative talent in their first-party development teams.

  • F***ing signed. Also disregard Bernie Stolar didn't help much back in the 32x/Saturn years

  • Hey everyone, if you would like to see this released, google "Phantasy Star Collection Petition" and sign up!!!

  • yes sir!! Right away, sir!!

(by the time you read this, I should have signed!)

  • I want them to do this for Phantasy Star IV so badly....please SEGA?? I love you long time!

  • Could you imagine having this version back in the 1980s -- CHRIST MAN! But I still love our Master System copy :)

  • what's wrong with remakes?

  • nothing

  • We should petition so this game and the other ones are released in the US.

  • Why did this have to stay in Japan?! I was hoping this would come to America.

  • @BenJabituya I know, it's so mean. Come on, they'd make a bundle if they released it in english!

  • Not to slight Sega but I don't think they know what they are doing anymore in the US market.

  • why did they remake it? looks neat but im kinda partical to the orginal...but i sure would play this-i like battle systems like that lol

  • Damn, this game along with remakes of Phantasy Star II and IV were announced for a US PS2 release few years ago as a compilation of the Sega Ages series. Too bad I don't this is gonna happen any more :(

  • Its a shame that we always get stiffed out of great games that never make it out of japan The kenshin game being one of them as well.

  • Someday it will happen, look at all the snes and sega rpgs that weren't translated that are now full english with emulation and hacks. Someday....

  • sweet!!!look at odin lace into those muthafuckas!! man he has that swing.even final fantasy characters in there 3d glory hurt this bad.most underrated game rpg of all time.

  • Please Please Please put up more videos of this game, yuri2004x with more battles in different places and more of the elemental magic.

  • sorry, i don't have the game. i've received this video from a friend, who downloaded it somewhere.

  • Gawd, i want these to be released over here so much.

  • Did they make this game in english? I loved the original on the SMS.

  • I dont think they will to be honest, its possible to play it in japanese. Thats what I did...but it can get a bit hard at times if you dont have the script of the game. Getting the the cat was a real bitch.

  • You're gay by association.

  • Totally awesome. I love the original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System. The remake looks sweet.

BTW, you play it on a Japanese Model Playstation 2 or used a mod chip or a Swap Magic disc to play it on a USA PS2?

  • INTERESTING

  • Very nice. My fav game is PS4 by far, best game(RPG) ever made. I also like the other series. Does anyone know if there ever will be a PS4 remake? Because I would do anything to play it! <3

  • So far since Sega reclaimed the rights to the Ages series there's been no word on a PS4 remake. I hope they still make it, it's my favorite RPG of all time and arguably my favorite videogame of all time.

  • I agree. PS4 is the best RPG. Also, it's my fav game :|

  • I hope this is released in english because I am a HUGE Phantasy Star fan and I was to young to understand how to play Phantasy Star 1 but I have played ever PS since and I how love to play this game again and with the improved graphics I would love it. BTW, naming my first girl Alis and i don t care if the mom doesn t like it :P

  • this should have been a ps1 game

  • I would've liked to see Sega release this on Dreamcast when Square re-released Chrono Trigger on PS1, that would've been cool.

  • it would have been cheaper for the gamers and producers if a ps1 game, but dude, the DC failed because the systems were far too durable, thats why sony kicked segas ass

  • DC failed because Sega wasted most of their capital on an assload of systems before it. There was no way they could recover after all they wasted on the CD, CDX, 32X, Saturn, Game Gear, Nomad, etc.

  • Sega's problem was releasing shit way to early and poor marketing skills. Look at the Nomad. How could a PORTABLE genesis possibly be shitty?! But no one knew about it. I didn't even find out they existed until they were out of production. The Saturn missed it's market completely from being released too early; it was supposed to be high-graphics 2D system, not a shitty-graphics 3D system like the original PS was, but Sega, stupidly, felt the need to switch up and ball in Sony's court.

  • Saturn wasn't that shitty in 3D really. And it was good in 2D as well. And it wasn't released too early either, the problem with the Saturn was poor marketing and bad decisions made by SoA. Fact is, the Saturn was Sega's most successful system in Japan. While yes PS1 did outsell Saturn in consoles, Saturn games and accessories far outsold PS1 games and accessories.

  • Will you please make more phantasy star generation 1 videos with other places to fight, and more of Lutz's magic than just Gihewn?

  • It was said that this game was to be released outside Japan. Will this game be released outside Japan or is it more likely to stay in Japan?

  • huh, i've never played Phantasy Star I. it's battle system seems more akin to Final Fantasy than later games in the PS series (i have the Genesis collection, so i have II, III, and IV).

  • Not really. It's still an over-the shoulder view although I get what you mean, in that the characters aren't shown attacking, it's just the animation of the attack itself, kinda like the Gameboy FF games. The battle system's still better than the later real-time FFs, IMHO.

  • I want these remakes ._.

  • Is there a map? Wandering around in a maze in 8-bit was bad enough having to map everything out yourself.

  • DAmn I want this!

  • Well hopefully they release I, II, & IV in the States as a full collection. I'd get a PS2 just for that.

  • Hey smart guy...Phantasy Star II, III, and IV IS already released on Sega Classics collection why else would Sega re-release all 4 of them as a collection? I prefer the remake of the first two.

  • Because, genius, I'm referring to the remakes. They didn't make IV as a remake. They just released the old Genesis version. It's retarded to buy compilations when you can just use an emulator.

  • they won't make the third one... coz' its story have got nothin to do wth the other ones...

  • Ps3 takes place on one of the spaceships that escaped from Palm. Geez If you didn't play the game at least look it up.

  • But these games have to have been more popular in the west back then, so it doesn't make sense.

  • That's because they don't get the same support and recognizement outside Japan, Nintega.

  • They don't, because Sega basically killed it themselves outside of Japan.

  • To sideburns 1986:THANK YOU!! YOU UNDERSTAND ME!

  • this maybe a second collection there working on, and if it was on the first, i wouldn't mind having all 4 remade in a collection, that would be cool

  • I am pissed Sega didn't include the two PS remakes in the Sega Classics Collection. Why do they keep dropping the ball these days?

  • I've got this trailer on my pc, I've also got the second remake to play on my imported PS2. Still looking for this one.

  • Interesting... I didn't know that they made a Sega Ages remake of the first Phantasy Star, although I had heard that they were working on one for PSII. I assume it never made it out of Japan. *sigh*
