  • Nags2bitches, you are welcome to come and meet Mualim, we are around Exeter.

  • Mualim's semen is available to a limited number of mares.

  • Whether or not Mualim has inherited the grey from Pampa and Gayaz remains to be seen. His first foal is a yearling out of a black mare. he is black but has little grey hairs on his body. At one point we thought he was going grey but then he darkened again, so it isn't clear whether or not he is a grey. At this point, it doesn' look like it. He almost look roan. The other last year's foal was a clear buckskin from a bay mare and this year's from the same mare is light buckskin.

  • Hi, I don't have 20 years of colour research, but I do know about colour genetics. Mualim's granddam was the famous grey mare Pampa. His equally well-known sire Gayaz was a perlino but carried a grey gene: this means outwardly he looked exactly like Mualim but he produced 50% grey foals from non-grey mares - a proof that he carried Pampa's grey gene.

Mualim's dam is a buckskin by a chestnut stallion Yakyr. This means Mualim may also be a carrier of the red gene, as well as agouti.

  • You say you have 20 years colour research behind you so I'm wondering about your comment on him having a grey gene. I was under the impression that grey is never recessive ever, therefore if the grey gene is present the horse WILL be grey. If one of Mualims parents were grey, he may be grey himself but if his grand-dam was grey but NOT his parents he will not be grey. Isn't that correct ? Anyway is he at public stud and if so where are you based ? (I'm North Devon).

  • he's tall!

  • He is gorgeous!!! 5*

  • AngeltheAwesome, we are expecting two foals from Mualim next year - if one is grey, we would know whether he is true cremello/perlino or whether he is a grey underneath. And no, no matter how many years of research you have done, you cannot tell from appearance alone whether the dilute is of bay or of chestnut.

  • bellabelliboo, we cut the mane because this is a traditional way to present the Akhal-Teke. They have naturally sparse mane, unlike, say Arabs. There isn't a lot to remove and it emphasises their elegant necks.

  • Thanks, I didn't know that!! :D

  • AngeltheAwesome, you cannot tell whether a horse is a perlino or cremello from looking at him. It depends on whether he is a double-dilute of bay or chestnut. Mualim's grandsire had many bay ancestors but his dam had many chestnut ones. Plus, his granddam, the famous Pampa is grey, so actually, Mualim probably carries a grey gene but this can only be proven if he produces grey off-spring from non-grey mares.

  • I hate to tell you but I have done 20 years of colour research and breeding...I think I know what I'm talking about

  • Is Mualim a brother of Shahar Shael? Both of them are perlino stallions with the same way of move. Or is Mualim a child of the Shahar Shael probably?

  • thats not perlino its cremello. Perlinoes have brown/orange manes and tails, this one's tail is just dirty

  • Thanks a lot of for you lecture,in russian his color called "изабелловая масть", and for me it doesn't matter .His mane and tale are pale-orange, anyway. I know that in English when you write something about the animals, you can use words like "it"...But for example for me, Mualim is a horse with heart and soul, he is a person with a pure blood, and I really cannot read the word like"it" about this brilliant and spiritual horse :-) Мир дружба жевачка.

  • I didn't say "it"...

  • absolutely gorgeous horse!!

why do you cut the manes short though?

  • I love Mualim! I can't wait to see what you guys are up to this summer.Have fun!!
