May I suggest to the audience and the project, that we stop using the word race when discussing such things because it is not an appropriate use of the word.
According to genetics we are ONE RACE there is no such thing as an interracial human in genetic reality.
I would go so far as to say that even using the word race to differentiate between black and white is absurd, and actually helps to keep racism alive in our world.
Lets end this falsity and start teaching our children the truth.
ha its strange because in england mixed-race folks is a vast population but in ireland you will not see one single half-caste or quarter-caste mixed person. but yet in the space of only 15 minutes in england you would see about 10 mixed-race people and yet ireland and england are so close but 100% different.
@mixedraceproject I was thinking of "racially" mixed since we all have two parents, four grandparents, eight great grandparents, sixteen great great great grandparents, 32 great great great great grandparents..., plus humans have been migrating the globe since time immemorial.
I never knew how difficult it was for biracials and now I realize after engaging in several discussions & hearing their viewpoints that people should not take having a mixed child lightly. One should think LONG & HARD before deciding to have a child who may look nothing like you, feel no alliance to your race, and have a warped idea of their own identity. Too many people think they are just making a "cute mixed baby". But those babies grow up with racism from both sides & may become resentful.
It's not surprising. People would breed for other stupid reasons besides race. So many irresponsible people, let alone assholes who can't take proper care of raising a child.
I am am mixed race (half pakistani, half english)
and you are right!!! being mixed race isn't a bad thing but if it isn't dealt with in the right way by ur parents or society then it can tear you in two.
@lilwanderer So how is it for you being half-English and half-Pakistani? Do you connect with both cultures? Do you find it difficult at times between the two different cultures? Do you find you favor one over the other...or have you found a happy medium : )
@WhereYaBoss I can connect with both cultures sometimes, but it's hard to fit in completely with either of them.I live in England and unfortunately this is the only language I can speak fluently, so i suppose I can understand this culture better. I wouldn't be able to describe everything in this comment. But what I will say is that it doesn't have to be a curse, it can be a blessing, it shows you that everybody is a human being with feelings. We are equal in every way except through our own eyes
@lilwanderer Well, I wish you peace in your life and that you will focus on the positives and box away the negatives. And know that we all have social problems fitting in whether we are mixed or mostly just one race. Nothing is ever clearly one thing or the other. People and places evolve. Where you don't fit in today you may fit in later in life and vice versa. Keep a good aura around you and it will make your path through life easier.
Don't indulge this idiot. You claim to be mixedrace, yet you're agreeing with a person who has basically said that your existence is a living curse and that you should never have been born. I don't know how intelligent you are but surely you can recognize that 90% of the people you see in these "documentaries" describing how terrible being mixedrace is are barely prepubescent and not particularly intelligent.
Most mixedrace kids are simply having the same "identity crisis" which EVERY teenager faces, regardless of race. The only difference is, mixedrace kids are not told that all teenagers feel isolated and like a social outcast at some point in their life. No, they're told that it must be because they're mixedrace. "Oh, you poor little mixedrace person, no wonder you're so confused - who wouldn't be!"
It's pathetic. Get a grip. Do you think growing up as an Asian Muslim in the UK is any "easier"?
Woah. overload. listen mate, perhaps you didn't read my comment properly. i never said there was anything wrong with being mixed race, my entire family is mixed, my nephews and nieces even more so then me. it IS a blessing but that does Not mean that there aren't issues that only mixed race kids have to do deal with. Not every town in Britain is as multicultural or as tolerant as London, so not every ones experience is gonna be the same. Im not sayin Londons an easy place to live
@MustNotRead ...but every place is different, every family is and every one is brought up differently, so we r not all gonna hav the same experience of being mixed. i AM muslim so i dunno what ur talking about. we r not here to decide whether people should be allowed to have mixed children, whoever thinks we r ..ahem...stepheng1483...is an idiot and isn't going to get a response. This was just supposed to be about people who are mixed sharing their experiences coz not every one was lucky enuf
I'm sorry but you are an idiot. Do not project your own sick and diseased mind onto others. I'm mixedrace and I grew up in London, surrounded by mixedrace people. I can honestly say, none of them have grown up with the mental deficiency you describe. In fact, most of them are far more stable and pragmatic than monoracial peopleI know - probably thanks to the experience (tough or otherwise) of growing up as a mixedrace person. Being mixed is a total blessing.
@MustNotRead ...to grow up wiv other mixed people around em. wheresyaboss hasn't got a sick or diseased mind she just has an opinion which she has a right to share, shes not projecting it onto others we all are old enuf n ugly enuf to know how to make our own judgements. so chill. its about sharin our experiences so we can get a better perspective or just a different one. im proud of being mixed race and of being muslim. but sometimes its good to link up wiv others to remind yourself and learn.
Probably a waste of my time here but I'm not quite sure if you're actually reading what this WhereYaBoss character is saying. For example, in his last post, he speaks of interracial couples undertaking "science projects", "mixing genes" and experimenting with making children. He clearly has an extremely distorted perception of reality. Additionally, I advice you to take a quick look at his video favourites. A large portion of them are racial related.
I'm guessing that this guy has some form of mental disorder stemming from personal racial issues. He's clearly obsessed with race in a negative way and this obsession colours his opinion on interracial relationships and being mixedrace. No one is saying growing up is easy, it's not easy for anyone. We all have our own traumas to deal with and they differ based on our own particular perspective. That's life and no excuse to think twice about the colour of the person you chose to fall in love with
ohhhh. i thought wheresyaboss was mixed race. this is getting confusing. ok no worries. i still like the video. not quite sure what it is we r talking about anymore though. Peace out.
@MustNotRead I'm glad it's working out for you! For hundred of thousands of others it's not. This documentary and many others like it reflects that. People need to think hard and long about what the kids life is going to be like before they just mixed genes and races. It's not a science project. It's a life. Please I hope you will share with us all the wonderful blessings you have received from being mixed. I would love to be proven wrong, thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if anything relating to your delusional little world can be taken literally but in your profile it says you are from the USA. I'm from the UK, so our life experiences and opportunities may be vastly different. Being a mixedrace child, I faced about the same level of racism as anu other minority. Which, tbh, wasn't a great deal (looking back). I went to colledge/university and currently work as a graphic artist for a video game company and earn a decent living.
I'm not really sure what your expectations from life are. You may expect to float through the cruel realities of childhood wrapped in cotton wool and experience nothing "nasty". I on the other hand realize that life is tough and NOONE has it easy. You have to be strong and grind your way through and the added "hardship" experienced due to being mixedrace CAN be considered a bonus in developing character - depending on your outlook. I just think you need to grow up a little.
I would have thought you'd take inspiration in the fact that your very own President is biracial. Or do you prefer to lay down, defeated and down trodden crying over the terrible hand God has dealt you?
@MustNotRead Ok I tried to be nice with you and get along. But you are fortifying my stance on why people should not have mixed children. It's this sort of hatred and evilness that comes out of you that let's me know that you have suffered for being mixed. I was really hoping you were going to be nice and that you were going to tell me how blessed your life has been, but instead you started putting me down and putting your negative experiences off on me. This is why I think mixing has to stop.
no, you haven't "tried to be nice" at all. you've slithered, with defamatory comments relating to mixedrace people. you've tried desperately to paint a false negative image of mixedrace people and their families with sinister and underhand comments. that's not "trying to be nice".
