Glowing references by John Harbaugh and Urban Meyer carry a bit more weight than the misrepresentations of a hater, I must say. A new HC was hired by ND in 02 who brought his staff with him but he kept Mattison on anyways. He was pretty "in demand" in 05 and 08 if memory serves me correctly, too. I seem to remember FL having some DL/DC/Recruiting Coordinator named Greg Mattison as well.....hmmm.

@trublu97 Mattison was called "the best recruiting coach in America" by Urban Meyer when he pulled #1 and #2 classes at Florida and his recruits won 2 National Championships. They held OSU to only 82 total yards in the Championship Game. He's not the best pass defender, but he's absolutely the best rush defender anywhere. At Michigan he held opponents to under 90 ypg rushing in the smash mouth Big10 for years, and at ND later, and his Wrecking Crew defense with Texas A&M. We couldn't do better.

@tbmike23 I think you might be streeeetching the old man's resume a weee bit. He got demoted by ty at ND, no one wanted him in 2003. He was ND's recruiting coordinator, his primary job since he got canned as the DC, and he turned in the worse classes in ND's history. Remember the old saw a couple years back, ND can't recruit because its too tough? Weis/current guy are doing just fine. FL had some stiff named Charlie Strong as the DC...hmmm.

Mattison is an upgrade to "ok guy", but 750K?

We dropped 3 win-able games last season. We held MSU scoreless till we let them do whatever they wanted, we ran over Iowa then we let them run us over in turn, and we dropped an easy win over PSU due to a breakdown of basic defensive fundamentals. Could've walked away from last year with a 10-3 record, but we didn't. With Mattison, last years problems will stay last years problems.

I love this man I want my son to play for him. This was the best decison to bring in GM in maybe the histroy of Mich football. Matt will make us tough again and get the most out of these young guys the opposite from the last Greg that worked here Robinson. Kids love him to and every recurit always talks about Greg Mattison first that tells me all I need to know. Good Job Brady Hoke your best
