It wasn't cancelled for 1, the next season is set to air 2008, do some research.
2. It wasn't marketed for kids, that was a mistake people made when seeing "oh cartoon cats, must be a kids show"
You don't like it, doesn't mean it's trash, many find this show actually funny or it never would have aired at all in the first place.
Lastly, there are MANY shows without good storylines that move ep to ep, southpark, family guy, robot chicken, etc and all are quite successful.
