I know a lot of people think it's gross but I think domesticated mice and rats are so cute! Just like with puppies and rabbits I melt when I see them. It's so sad that people don't realize how intelligent and wonderful they are. For anybody who says they have no use on this earth. I tell them this. Rats are currently being used in several countries of Africa where they can locate and disarm bombs. Dogs & cats are too big to use. The rats are saving millions of lives. They deserve more respect.

@Maxaxle Some females get territorial. Those are usually the ones that were abused when they were little. Most of them, if kept since they were born, together, they will not fight as much. Same goes to males but when the males reach sexual maturity, it is best to keep them separated from females and other males.

We as in me and my boyfriend ( who hasn't got an apartment yet, due to college ) who are Still together (going on our 2 year ann. October 3rd ) use Aug. 5th as a day of remembrance. lostfan487,respect for what u do- i have a white albino mouse called Dumbo and i think he is great. Previously i had a male mouse named 'fatty' who was brown with a white stripe, he was sold to me for £1.50 after being dropped carelessly by the shop owner- they were obviously meant for reptiles. Fatty lived for 2 years and became tame.

Mice seem to be quite neglected as pets go and i hate these videos showing cruelty.

Okay, I'll put it simply:

-Short digestive systems (eat and poop a lot)

-Easily made nervous or scared

-Don't like predators (dogs, cats, snakes, birds of prey, you XD ), and freak out if one is near.

-Like to climb anything that they can

-Explore their environment a lot

-Will act as if the cage is brand-new for a while after cleaning the cage, lol.

That should cover the basics. Oh, and watch what you sit on if you let them out of their cage, or put them on your shoulders, etc.
