I Don't thing that salto to arabesque was named after Nastia at the time the video was made, and actually never heard if that was done officially, but it should be.
so lets say that an athlete creates a skill, but doesn't perform it at Worlds, but another athlete does. Who gets the credit for it, the person who created it, or the one who did it at Worlds? Is that the deciding factor?
There is the Talavera Flair, named after US Champion Tracee Talavera, first performed at the 1980 american Cup and entered the code of points in 1981 when she performed it at the World Championships, and again later in the 1984 Olympics.
A tucked back with a full is a Shishova. There is no Gutsu. Also, a Shishova is also a full-in off beam although a Chinese gymnast first pioneered it before even Shishova did in 1983 (just not at a worlds or Olympics). Nice video, very educational for those not in the "know" about gymnastics skills.
The Liukin isn't actually a Liukin. Both Nistor and Lozechko performed it at the 2007 Worlds before Liukin began performing it. Nistor has actually been performing it since late 2006.
Agreed-though she seems to have implied in interviews that it HAS been named for her. It seems the 2009 COP does not reflect this-but this is what I have read-I have not seen the new COP myself.
the soomersault to arabesque has been named after her and applied to tyson and pan american cups at the moment, but in the table of element it is still a connective... hopefully shell get it named after her, because she deserves it :)
The mount Moceanu did IS called a Silivas. Dominique called it that herself-in the code of points a shoulder-stand pirouette is a Silivas. The one Moceanu did in 1996 was a Silivas-it was not named for her as some here seem to imply.
Yes-it's a variance with perhaps and added twist-but it is still basically the same shoulder mount-Moceanu when she was tiny did it with the beat board whereas Silivas at her full height no longer needed one. At Worlds '89 Daniela did a very pretty variation with a split to stag.
@faeryquene Most of the names were removed from the CoP, particularly for variants of elements, but it used to be there in 1997-2000. Moceanu's entry is 1.308, Silivas is 1.208.
Cool montage! You should definitely include the Erceg mount too! I hate that some of the skills aren't named after the gymnast who performed them first (Zamolodchikova, Tousek, Onodi) and I LOVE the Miller, the Garrison Steves, the Okino and the Teza!
I still LOVE the Kelly "Garrison-Steves Roll", The Henrietta Onodi, and the Daniela Silivas and still shocked and in awe of The Baitova, The Homma, The Miller, The Humphrey (I don't think anyone else could be crazy enough to do that again), The Okino, The Philips, The Teza & The Kim. CRIZ-AZY!!! ;)
With the Rueda you pike the hips and then extend before you land. (Tucking the hips and then extending is the Chen). With the korbut you just stay extended the whole move. Hope that helps :)
Nastia's flip is named after her. And I love the worley

A Worley is just an Onodi that's sprung out instead of a walkout? Still an Onodi in my books.
Is there a back tuck equivalent of a Liukin on beam? Like landing on one leg in a scale position?
funkyfierce 3 years ago
I'm not sure but the skill on one leg, is it name the Nistor?

@audie83 Moceanu ads a twist and that's what it's named after her in the COP.

@calitoe Actually-there is no Moceanu in the COP.

the silivas and the mount dominique moceanu does are 2 diff. skills and a back w/ a full twist isnt a gutsu its a Schischova
mistybabe5489 3 years ago
Korbut - flic, Rueda - salto.
Shishova:flic - piruet;
Gutsu: stand - piruet.
igorgymn1 3 years ago
what's the difference between a rueda and a korbut?
isn't that the "gutsu" is just a standing shishova..or a standing back tuck with a full twist?
that's very difficult...and very cool!
expelliarmus1234 3 years ago
With the Rueda you pike the hips and then extend before you land. (Tucking the hips and then extending is the Chen). With the korbut you just stay extended the whole move. Hope that helps :)

A Korbut is like a back handspring to swing down. A Rueda is a back pike somersault to swing down.
