I remove the shields, throw my bearings into a jar, fill it with a degreaser (simple gream, acetone, kerosene, gas), close the jar, let it soak and shake every ten minutes for 1 minute. I take them out, let the degreaser evaporate and put some grease in it.
The shield you can clean with anything and then make sure dry. As for solution, enough to submerge your bearings is all you need. Also make sure those are dry and then lubricated again before reinstalling/using.
Remove wheels and bearings, and leave frames attached. Link doesn't work here, but to our site where I mention below and you can read the instructions there for those skates. Other models have Aqua Tech molding where you can mold in hot water, but not the Strut. Thanks!
You removed the wheels and bearings, but leave the frames attached. Not sure if link will work here, but if going to the strut skate on our IW site, click to ready product description and you'll see a banner on heat molding instructions. Thanks.
If putting lube (whether it oil or cream) on the outside of the shield, some may work its way in there, but likely it will only attract dirt and make it stick to the bearinsg. Some bearings have a rubber shield on the inside to where you can drop in there and spin and get benefit, but if a sealed bearing that requires removal of the c-clip to get to the bearings..You'll have to get that off to get in there and clean out and lube again. Thanks for the post!
Could you spin the wheel and add the lube near the nut and let it spin then wipe away all the excess grime? Would it work, or would it do nothing? Also, my longboard trucks are squeaking. What do I do? I have many other questions about this so... How do bushings go on in the proper way? Just take off the truck and add the bushings and the washers or whatever there called on either side, then put in the kingpin? Please respond. How often do I need to do maintenance? Thanks
I'm sure there are other things that can be used, but my experiences are with those we have available here. I therefore can't comment on success and failure of others. Sorry..
well, do you really need that fancy stuff to clean them! I don`t have any money right now! is there any other way thats cheaper to clean them, please respond
You should always have a bearing spacer. If an 8mm axle which is wide, you likely have a floating spacer. If a 6mm axle which is skinnier, then a long sleeve spacer slides through the center of the bearing to fill up that extra space so you axle is secure.
You can use the pusher mechanism when having a long-sleeve spacer, and the puller (the lip) when a floating spacer. A floating spacer floats inbetween the bearinsg so the pusher doesn't have the edge of the spacer to push on and pop the bearing out. The puller therefore allows you to slide through to get between the bearings in the center for the wheel, and actually pull the bearing out. That make sense?
hey can you use the sonic pro tool in a wheel that has a normal spacer, and can u use it without a spacer? its just because i have my skateboard wheels that dont have spacers and my scooter wheels do but just the normal ones.
Cleaner can be purchased separately, yes. Sonic citrus cleaner, etc... Bearings can also be found on our site. Just put a dot com after inline warehouse.
@XxLastMinuteofHopexX wd40 is not good at all wd40 losens the bearings wich cause them to blow and you don't want that to happens when you are going fast and about to ollie 12 stair do you?
@MilkyGalaxies yes you can but remember to lubricate them after words... but it would be best if you use acetone or if the alcohal 90% or higher acetone is the things girls use to take off nail paint thing
@DP2501 everclear and vodka are two seperate things. everclear is a grain alcohol made from corn, vodka is made from potatoes and other grains as well, but they aren't the same. no such thing as a true ever clear vodka.
wat about using acnetone..people keep telling me that is wat u use..i dont have any of that lubricants and stuff like that but were can i get some i have super bone reds bearings and they are brand new..i just want to get it all ready just in case so i will know how i can clean it..oh yeah and i also cannot buy anything online..srry. so do u think u could help me out..thanks.
If a long sleeved spacer , anything that is able to push on that edge would work . The Sonic Pro Tool or Rollerblade Tool make it easy as it hits right on that edge to push it out the other side. If a floating spacer, the puller on the same tools makes it easiy as well. Using something like a screw driver to work around the bearing to slowlyl get out works, but can damage the bearing or spacer. Something like a screwdriver would not work well if a long spacer.
The Pro Tool makes it easy, but you use anything that will push on the rim of the spacer. If a floating spacer, a screw driver or something can work the bearing out. The Pro Tool or Rollerblade tool make it easy, last forever, and don't damage any parts..
Look up how to clean skateboard bearings, ther are a lot more videos on cleaning them just because skateboard wheels are more exposed to dirt and stuff. But you can use gas, acetone (nailpolish remover), paint thinner and rubbing alcohol (90% or more is recommended).
boravw1 - We do currently sell the Labyrinth bearings. I'd question whether they would limit dirt and what not, but it never hurts to try. I don't believe the Labyrinth a bearing that they are going to continue with. Perhaps something shielded on both sides would work well for you if skating in places that are that dirty. The BSB Abec 9's for example. You didn't mention which bearings you are using currently?? The oil should not 'attract' dirt unless applying too much or the bearing is exposed.
I typically use Bones speed lube, but I wish there was a dry lube for our bearings, being in colorado its so dry that using a oil based product attracts dirt and dust like crazy!
Does IW sell Bones Labyrinth SWISS? I was thinking that these bearings are less susceptible to gunking
KHSBikesCo - We used the OUST Speed Clean Bearing Cleaner kit which is a citris based cleaner and the OUST metalic Bearing Oil to lube. There are other cleaners/oil you can check out on our site as well

if you're heat molding them in the oven, then you need to take off your wheels but leave your frames on.

Yeh, acetone is great, thats what I use for my mine (and have done for some time).
Take a look at 'Rockn Ron- How to clean your bearings', it's more applicable to the type of bearing you have bought and the vest method I have tried.

Solvents are basically what you're after (ideally isopropyl alcohol or acetone - ensuring a good purity; above 90%). Speed Cream is great too.
