It's not the driver's problem. Hundreds of people (include the staffs of TOYOTA)have tested with Highlander 2.7, but all of them failed. There is a flaw in Toyota's design. If you know Chinese, search '爬坡門’ in Baidu.com.
wow, i have a highlander, you cant floor it and expect to get anywhere offroad, though i will say those look like the stock street tires, which have zero traction off the pavement
Lie I have an 07 high lander which is way older and it has done way worst it a 3.3 v6 engine soo I'm sure the new one can do way better plus WTF they all come all wheel drive i'm 100% sure the guy was just tapping on the gas...
@d10230 yea i know 4 cylinder for highlander is stupid! they stopped making the 4 cylinder for a year but it came back, stupid toyota!! I have a 2010 highlander with 4wd and a V6; it can do a lot!
Driving is an ART, it is 90% Driver 10% Vehicle, as you can see too much acceleration causes wheel spin, stop on a slope then start again... no momentum... result the 2 tonne toyota is stranded, so what!... Come on Guys... for a fair comparison show us the other vehicles try and do a stop start up hill or at least change the driver in the toyota!
Anyone else think so?
ps... a better driver takes a run up and keeps momentum, goes easy on the accelerator and avoids wheel spin, dont clog the tyres!
I wonder what are all these front wheel drive cars doing there in the first place, they are designed for sealed roads... Car testing?? Really? Wow... since there is an AWD version of the Kluger / Highlander available for a little extra would that make any difference? I feel the Kluger/Highlander is a soft roader, with 200kw Power and 333Nm Tourque with most of it coming on tap from idle it can do 0-100km in 8 seconds flat, but with the wrong driver it cant go up a slippery hill... *LOL* OK
@bugbug78 i thought it was 50% Driver 50% Vehicle.... lol i remember hearing it somewhere in a game or movie and that has stuck with me for a while now =p
@bugbug78 you've got to be kidding me. Watch the whole video, please. In this test, ALL other cars, including a 1.2L QQ hatchback climbed without problems. All the vehicles used straight line acceleration, some are driven by the same driver as highlander. It's a design flaw. The center of gravity is too leaned back. In a subsequent video of the same SUV, it can reverse climb the slope. It is not the driver. It is entirely the problem of the vehicle highlander. it has design flaws.
Replied by bigsmartwhale : what happened there was that one Highlander owner found out his Highlander couldn't climb it, and then some other Highlander and other vehicles came to try. None of this trim of Highlander managed to do it but other cars made it pretty easy. Here's just one of them.

need to check the size of the engine, the chinese highlander version are mostly 2.7l, which is too small for its large body

Actually the Highlander did go the fastest at the beginning of this video, but it just couldn't continue and began to slip.
