It's kind of a crowded market with all the braniacs toting the enviro-leftist line, I know. Maybe someone mightaccidentally pick it up, and, I don't know, figure out that what they have been taught is complete bullshit?
Let me give you an example, granola cruncher. For the last thirty years, surface temperatures have significantly outpaced lower and mid-tropospheric temperatures from weather balloon and satellite data. That means there is no greenhouse effect! Look it up.
The radical change of suburbia is the beginning when the housing market crashes and people with a $400,000 mortgage live in a 100,000 house. These houses are also energy pigs compared to what they will need to be in the post peak oil era. Groups who can survive without much commuting could ban together to make these shelters usable again but not sure if there is enough land to provide the local food necessary. In our climate, greenhouses will become the norm. Localization hear we come.

The way things are going, we are all going to have to work as communities, helping each other and protecting each other. Neighbors, coming together to supply and help each other. No longer relying on governments or their programs to survive. The governments need to be dropped, we need to get back to basic living and toss this "fools gold" of the "American dream" down the toilet. The Fascist leaders need to be marginalized and shown that their game of deceit and manipulation IS OVER.
The problem with this concept of people being self-sufficient is that it takes a LOT of time and a LOT of energy. For me to raise my own garden, grains and meat would turn me into a farmer. Everyone doesn't want to be a farmer! People like having free time, and the free markets have delivered so much abundance that people can have jobs like writing, film-making, computer engineering, etc...If he and his fellow kooks want to do this, fine. Don't force any of this man's ideas on the rest of us.
@OutlawTomFantastic Free Market delivered so much abundance to SOME at the cost of the others... I dont mind becoming a farmer if it creates abundance for me as well as for others.. besides, atleast here in India, farmer-life is the most leisurely. Although I agree with you that its a personal preference, I for one would love to see this option given to people along with other options of livelihood. And so, words like those of this man need to be around along with others.
@the3dguy2 So long as these ideas are not being forced on us by the government. Your statement that free markets deliver abundance to some is way off target. Free markets lift all boats. Take Bill Gates. The guy became a billionaire but he made tons of millionaires around him, and those millionaires in turn create prosperity for others. The thing is to make lots of millionaires and billionaires which lifts everyone's prosperity. Yet there are people who despise millionaires. Pure irrationality.
@OutlawTomFantastic Simple math, the more billionaires and millionaires, the less for everyone else. What we see today is the billionaires gobbeling up all those below and you get a FACIST/Corporate state. This is what has happened, those greedy bastards at the top, just can't stop, they want MORE all the time. Their lust for control and power makes them INSANE. They want it all and that means your soul too. We are seeing a dictatorship with only a few holding all the cards, you think it's good?
@blite13 "Simple math, the more billionaires and millionaires, the less for everyone else." Lol! Where do you get such a distorted world view? Wealth is defined as products, such as the computer someone builds, food someone grows, furniture someone builds, etc... In a free market system, people become rich by producing goods/services and offering them to others to purchase. Totally voluntary. A businessman can't force someone to buy his product. By making these products, wealth is increased.
@OutlawTomFantastic Well, there is nothing too wrong with some people becoming millionaires. The problem actually comes with resource sharing, and coming from the third world, i see a lot of things, rather than just read or listen in news. Grains being suppressed by the so called 'market magnets' to just keep the prices high, for eg., while millions are hungry, etc., beg the question of improvement. Too much of anything is bad. And freemarket can get into that 'too much' alley frequently.
@the3dguy2 The things you are talking about are not free markets. I suspect this third world country you refer to has corrupt leadership and it is a crony capitalism system at best. I hate crony capitalism. What you need are free markets, free of government regulation which actually helps monopolistic cartels come into being. Free markets with open entry and competition are great. When the government cronies get involved, not so great.
@OutlawTomFantastic What kind of world do you live in? Of course the government is involved, of course the government helps the BIG CORPS who get him elected. If you haven't noticed, America is being run completely by politicians who are paid off by BIG CORP's. Which make the big guys richer, who in turn buys out all the small guys and now you have a Fascist/Corp/ police state. This is what America is right now, how is that working out? This is the real world, you are still in dreamland.
@blite13 Well, yes, I agree 100% with your latest post. This is what needs to end! We need free markets, not government/special interest crony capitalism! We need to restore freedom again in this country by drastically rebooting the government to make it tiny and insignificant, same as when Thomas Jefferson wrote the US constitution which made the USA the greatest place on earth to live. BTW I find it kind of strange you said this as though I didn't agree. Makes me think you don't understand me.
@OutlawTomFantastic OK, we are on common ground, so, what are you doing about it? Waiting for the politicians to come to their minds? It isn't happeneing, either the people go to the streets or, we all opt out of this system and create our own. I prefer the latter. This system of Babylon has run it's course, we either stop it by nonparticipation or we fight it street by street. Either way, they are going to try and ENFORCE this system on us. It's coming to a head RIGHT NOW.
@blite13 What am I going to do? Support people like Ron Paul. Support the Tea Party movement. Promote freedom. Denounce government corruption. Denounce and protest against the Federal Reserve. Oppose central control/socialism at every turn. Those are all positive things.
Excellent, glad I found this vid... I have often had the sam thoughts. With the size of our typical Australian suburban backyards we could produce great ammounts of food... I might go look for some stocks in companys that produce polythene sheeting, greenhouses will become a high growth industry ;-)
Profound! A bright future is possible maybe probable. We are programmed for disaster by those wanting a technocratic, brutal world dictatorship with humanity chipped, families split up and completely dependant upon the state. Maybe we are on the brink of the biggest spiritual, social and technical breakthrough of all! For a fresh view, read the Ringing Cedars of Russia (Anastasia) series, Delores Cannons Convoluted Universe series. Listen to Jean Houstons free lectures.
the thing about the whole permaculture/transition movement is that its not immediately 'obvious'. Where I live you could look at the area and not notice much out of the ordinary- but even a slightly closer look reveals a number of projects which are well established and ready for the energy descent. As the whole issue become less about idealism and more about practical response we'll see the tipping piont reached. As Mollison said "its a revolution but its one you might not notice"
The problems have onlt begun. The US needs to wake up to reality. Do a search on Google: "Restructure America Suburbs" and read the article that was on Financial Sense. Read, think, write, post, act ... before it is too late.
Thanks for posting. I wish more people actually believed in all of this so the transition would start happening but now it is so slow it's non-existant. I think something dramatic will have to happen to inspire people to change their homes and lives.
I feel encouraged when my in-laws all start growing their own vegies, one in-law is making biodiesel, some others have started riding everywhere... think GLOBAL but start LOCAL... and be encouraged:)
Thanks for posting. The mood for transition is slowly beginning and I sense that it is bound to grow stronger. The Australian wide Green vote is an indicator of the potential for a large change, ably assisted by the political proxy groups such as Get Up.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
David Holmgren is a luddite, a loon.
He advocates going back to mass-scale human suffering that everyone did 500 years ago.
"Energy descent world" is a crazed, false belief pushed by David Holmgren.
