ABC will always be my band. They did not sell as many records as some of their contemporaries, but I respect ABC's courage and imagination for taking many risks in term of the music that they made and also their image. In fact, I recall Martin Fry saying (during the Zillionaire period) that he was not interested in chasing the dollar. Thank you for existing ABC. I don't know where I would be now without your music.
I saw them on that tour too, in Hull - I remember how loud it was. Someone in the crowd said they were trying out a new kind of sound system with ultra-slim speakers. Funny how it sticks in both our minds for how loud it was.
absolutly, i've waited AGES for this too! Yay! Fantastic version, and live too. ABC were totally genius at this point. I went up to Mark White in Limelight London banging on about the album, about how it sounded like Shannon, and he said that's what they were after! Thanks for posting!
I adore ABC period!... The 1984 period was ABC back to their raw yet polished and energetic funky upbeat soul, just like "LExicon Of Love". This footage is PRICELESS, THANKS*****
At last! I too have been waiting for this - they did indeed do Millionaire that day (I still have an audio recording). Pity that's not here and it ends prematurely too, but I don't want to be ungrateful. Vinny, this is the same as the Zillionaire version, isn't it?
I've been waiting to see this performance again for years - I remember the joy of seeing it live on Channel 4 (UK) as ABC hadn't performed live for sometime. The only live performance of Zillionaire material they did, I believe (they also performed Millionaire in this set on 'The Tube' - where's that?!). What a voice. What a sound. Seriously under rated.
Spectacular! Thanks for posting this. I wonder if they recorded a version of this for "...Zillionaire!" with that wicked middle break and the extra lyrics at the end.
The progressives have their minions. Likewise, the conservatives have their trolls. Eat what you like and leave all of the rest of us out of it!
