@turbopower130 A classic for sure. This was my first cb radio video. My friend across town was messing around with his echo. Local folk taking up a storm. Many have left the airwaves. I am glad that this was done on a video because they will be missed. Later I added another CA-2000 speaker. I now run a Magnum Raptor on the other side of the room to save on the 2000. Do use it to monitor my on air transmissions from the Raptor. A Diamond coax switch box does well. Take care, Bulldog.

What echo? Jesus: In the USof A we've been hearing echos on CB as long as there has been CB. Double Nickel for you outside the US refers to the old speed limit of 55mph.

Echo boards over modulate and splatter on other frequencies as most of you have noted. The 2000GTL has a clean audio out but terrible ears (RX). In my experience, I would use an old 148GTL/DX as a base station.

Great old Radio, Still have mine. Changed out the chip to a 3719 for expanded tx/rx, put in a 20 turn pot on clarifiar for super fine tuning on SSB. Added a 10 hz offset, A few high value parts to keep the radio voltage from drifting. Power mic for clear Modulation. Great ears and a pleasure to listen to I am told, NOT all tweaked - peaked - over mod - talke'n over ever speaker on the street. I also have a RCI 3500 100 watt version also fixed to run to specs and stable. 2000 is a great CB

Its crap like the echo that has killed CB for everyone. That and bad mods that splatter so instead of using 1 CH they take up 6 or 7 on both sides. Run it clean or don't run it. The Cobra 2000 was a nice radio if you get the older ones.

Nice radio. I used to be into CB radios big time years ago----had a 250 watt linear, antron 99 antenna, a Ranger 2950 radio, D104, the whole nine yards. But no one talks on them around here anymore (upstate new york) except truckers going through, so I got rid of all that I had. Had a LOT of money stuck into my setup.

Yes the chatter has dropped here also. The few guys that are on are diehard radio operators that also have their ticket. When I am within range of reaching the home base, my girlfirend know "when to get supper ready"! She will reach for the microphone before the cell phone. Echo is OK as long as it is set correctly, just a single or double repeat at a long interval, reinforces the original sound and IMPROVES clarity... check out my channel

How do you figure? The 142 has a single conversion receive vs. the dual-conversion AM receive on the 2000. Both radios share the same PLL circuitry and SSB circuitry. You need to buy a frequency counter to use with the 142, the 2000 already has one.

Just one question.how is that radio working because i couldn't see the modulation that the talkers were talking about. I am out of waterville and don't recall ever hearing you on radio. Also, I am inclined to believe that this is bs because if one watches your radio, when you key up, the recieve light never goes out, so how can you be transmiting? I will be sitting on 19 as usual helping drivers with directions , weather reports, and scanner info.

Blackjax2003, I was never transmitting, just receiving. One day I descided to do a video of my 2000 recieving on our local home channel 22. Local traffic here in Skowhegan is very low. Some things never change. And some should. I started my radi hobby in 1980 with CB radio, and used the band until 1986. In that time, I had had many different (illegal) radios. Tired of the CB band, went to Amateur Radio and stayed there until about three years ago when I just got sick of radio and sold it all but two scanners. I't's unfortunate that CBers still run those damned echo boxes. And how many other useless items that do nothing but annoy. Nice old radio though, hope has extra channels

The double nickel did have the echo too high. Maybe he knew about it or not. But anyway the new digital echo cracked open just a hair normally sounds good. Have a 3 RF Limited Xtreme 2018's.
