  • I notice the BOAC 1971 uniform has Navy Blue, Light Blue and Pink dresses. Could the Stewardess choose which colour she wished to wear, or were they for different routes?

  • What is a "Mini Trip"?

  • Hi Jack, Glad you enjoyed the videos. The answers to your questions are, if you were on the mini fleet with BOAC you flew on a VC10 or a 707. I do not remember being told how to sit for take off/landing, only to be fully strapped in ( seat belt and shoulder harness). Not to have the doors armed for take off/landing in the sixties seems crazy to me. In my 30 years of flying I have never known that to happen. Where did you get that info from ? Grandad 47

  • @grandad47 It does seem crazy, doesn't it? It was the requirement American Airlines had on their 707s and Convair 990s. My understand is when the 747 was introduced, the procedures in the United States changed.

Once again, thank you so much for uploading these videos! I've showed them to some friends of mine who fly for Virgin and Qantas and we can't get over how much it's changed!

  • Did BOAC slip in at the Sun n' Sand, Juhu beach in Bombay? Never the Taj? Both deck and cabin crews? Or was there a choice of hotels? Most enjoyable, thanks.

  • Yes. Cabin crew slipped at the Sun n' Sand for a while.Nothing known about the Taj or where the flight deck stayed.

  • were you stuck in Fiji in the CC strike of 1974? [I think] if you were, then do you remember the crew, I was the stwd 1. Great memories of a great life. I too have quite a bit if recent video, but have no idea how to put it onto the computer.

  • Yes, I was std 11. Are you Andy (from Trowbridge) ? Can't remember any other names. We were stuck in Fiji for 10 days. The first 5 days were great, (bbq on the beach etc) but after that were confined to the Mocambo Hotel. Eventually positioned home on Qantas to LAX, then United to LHR. 15th May 1974 (35 years ago !! I still have the certificate from the Qantas sector for crossing the Equator that day). Once back in UK it was another 6 weeks before my next trip. What lasting memories.

  • Yes, its Andy Millar, still from Trowbridge, what a trip, we positioned out to LAX on a 707 and only worked 2 sectors to NAN where we spent all that time. I too still have that certificate somewhere [sad b-----d]. Do you remember that road to Natadola beach where we had a great barbie? I waited a month after the strike was over for a trip, as you say, what lasting memories.

  • Hi Steve, thanks for the review. I can't believe where the time has gone since I took these films. I am working on Part 3 of the trilogy of 'My Early Flying Years' as we speak, so it should not be too long before it is finished. Grandad47

  • As nobody has so far complimented you on this marvellous effort I thought it about time someone did. You will probably remember how important feedback is! . Both films are terrific. Brought back the old memories. If you have more please post it. It will be eagerly viewed. Why didn't I have a movie camera in those days? We are all asking ourselves that

    Anyway, well done, it's great.
