  • NINJA SHIT AND BAD ASS MUSIC!!

  • i guess ur steps are a bit to unbalanced. no offense, but i think one good hit and u start to stumble.

unless you just do it for entertainment u better put some more power in ur stances!

    keep it up!

    alex

  • @Kapuzina1337 You must not be one for reading the vid descriptions...

In any case, most of my free-form is derived from Ninpo Bojutsu, emphasizing fluidity of motion, not grounded stance. I've taken some fairly heavy hits from various weapons while training without risk to my balance/control. Not that I'm saying you're wrong, but what may improve one style will invariably counteract another. I'll be more mindful regardless.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • @Kaijunjiru ah okay...well still it lookd great, just keep it up :P

  • How thick and how heavy is the staff? If i may ask.

  • It's roughly 1.2 inches in diameter, and 2 lbs. in weight.

Fairly light weight, really....not too difficult to work with. I like it for free-form practice.

  • I don't practice any martial arts yet I use a 1.5 inch thick 6 ft tall hemlock staff. More challenging than lighter woods.

  • Agreed.

In my opinion, heavier is good for well-rounded practice as well.

In my other video I used a tapered 1.5">1" , 6 ft., 7 lbs., red oak Bo.

I didn't begin with the study of any formal martial art either. So long as you work with what's available to you, and devise a set of skills set to your own preferences, a proficient technique is sure to follow.

You mentioned, "yet," so I presume you intend to begin formal training at some point. What sort of styles are you looking to take up?

  • Not quite sure yet. I am leaning to karate but am also looking at taekwondo. Though they are very different in their approaches both are highly effective. I need to find out which dicipline teaches the staff.

  • Unless you've found a particualar following of traditional teachings and undiluted techniques, I highly suggest avoiding taekwondo.

No discredit to the art itself, but most American taekwondo institutions are far too bastardized to be considered anything more than VERY basic self-defense.

Same is partly true of Karate, but you're far more likely to find a formidable Karate dojo than taekwondo. In terms of the staff, the two forms vary greatly in style, as well.

Best of luck in your studies.

  • Nice man, I like it!

  • cewl! how are u spinning it?

  • Loved that : )
