I went to the church of St.Valentine's today. It's hidden in a high Swiss valley and is made entirely of dark chocolate. Except for the roof which is isolated with marzipan. If you light a candle before the main icon and if you stay very still St.Valentine will wink an eye. And he will ask: "What are you bullshitting me for?" "But that's my question!" says I. "Ah? Then, perhaps, there still is hope;" says the Saint, "it is nowhere in the scripture, still you need to turn a page ..."
Marilyn Monroe sings it is "Some Like It Hot"..and even Woody Allen sings it as well as Goldie Hawn in Woody's only musical, "Everyone Say I love You"..I am glad Jane Monheit's talent brought it back to the apex.
She has a beautiful voice and I love the jazz style. However, in this song she fails to convey the emotion and pain of someone who is really through with love.
Compare it to Marilyn Monroe's version from Bus Stop.
Yes, that is what I meant to say, Thank you for correcting me and sorry for the error. No excuse, but I had recently watched Bus Stop again and I guess it was still on my mind.
I agree, MM's rendition is better AND MM gets the lyrics right. Monheit does this too and joins the very few artists that actually know the lyrics to this beautiful song.
@1tabt Yaa... cause we all want to her that? Not to mention that you'd have to be crazy to make yourself depressed enough to do that. An original version of a song will always have its charms and other versions after that will have their own individual personality just because the personality behind this song doesn't match the title doesn't make it any less of a song. But yea Marilyn Monroes probably does have that sadness aspect.
the pupose of a cover is not to top the other artists who have covered the same song. its to enjoy yourself.

Marilyn's version is different...not better or worse. Diana Krall does a kind of hauntingly sad version too.
