Avon was powerful somewhat in prison because HE HAD MONEY and could bribe guards. However, his crew was dodo on the streets after Stringer died. The prime example is Bodie,who lost all muscle and had to go independent. Because of Avon's poor leadership and non-evolving thug mentality the majority of his crew were arrested and he lost his street power. He was an aging thug who never was able to adapt like Stringer. His loud mouth sister proved to be useless in running things.

@Z3NZILE You're wrong, Even the creator of the show said that even though Marlo never dies, he in the end loses even more so than Avon or even Omar in death. Avon is still known as a king of the Westside, he holds just as much power in jail as he did on the streets, and his name will definitely be remembered along with Stringer Bell's. Omar was legendary and the fact that people talk about his glorified death symbolize that he will never be forgotten.
@Z3NZILE Marlo however, was basically punked by Omar, with everybody in the streets getting the message, he lost all his muscle with Partlow in jail and Snoop dead, and most of all he sold his connect with the Greeks. Now while he did have ten mill in riches on top of what he already had, that was all that was of his name. No one in the streets knew who he was and there was no way he was gonna get back into the drug game without going to jail. It was over for him.
Boris was a man of the Greek. The Greek was connected with Prop Joe. Prop Joe, in season 2, was selling his product to Stringer. Avon didn't want Prop Joe'drug (The Greek's drug). How come Avon is such a friend of Boris?

In one of the meetings with the Greek's front man, Marlo clearly says that the greek might want insurance, like in case anything every happened to Prop Joe and the connect, and the Greek was okay with it. The way I see it, the Greek knows what's up, he knows he's out for prop joe, and knows "insurance" is just BS. Basically, by authorizing the connect with Marlo, he sanctioned prop joe.
@rrrod411 the way i see it is the greeks look at baltimore as a jungle full of monkeys kkillin eachother off, theres always gona be a next man in charge after the last one got killed, thats the game its rigged and the greeks see it they just supply the game and they know there will always be one guy trying to control everything so they just find that one guy, because if they deal with all of them then the greeks scene will get baited out.
ALSO, what is really interesting is that Sergei instinctively despises Marlo. Like he can't hardly stand to talk to the guy. Not because he's black or a drug dealer (Sergei obviously really liked Prop Joe, see Season 2) but because he's a "gang banger," ie a fool who lets testosterone over-rule business. Yet one more indication that the Greeks themselves should have hit Marlowe rather than letting him replace Joe. Vondas said many times how reliable Joe was.
@ravenouscolonelhart The thing is, they saw the writing on the wall. They knew Marlo was going to take out Joe one way or another and they saw his ambition. They probably foresaw bigger dollar signs coming from Marlo. Joe kinda reminds me of Frank Lopez in Scarface. He was content where he was at, wanted to stay lowkey. But the Marlo/Tony Montana character wanted bigger things and of course that means bigger risk. The Greeks knew Marlo was going to take over eventually.

@Z3NZILE You're wrong, Even the creator of the show said that even though Marlo never dies, he in the end loses even more so than Avon or even Omar in death. Avon is still known as a king of the Westside, he holds just as much power in jail as he did on the streets, and his name will definitely be remembered along with Stringer Bell's. Omar was legendary and the fact that people talk about his glorified death symbolize that he will never be forgotten.

@Z3NZILE Marlo however, was basically punked by Omar, with everybody in the streets getting the message, he lost all his muscle with Partlow in jail and Snoop dead, and most of all he sold his connect with the Greeks. Now while he did have ten mill in riches on top of what he already had, that was all that was of his name. No one in the streets knew who he was and there was no way he was gonna get back into the drug game without going to jail. It was over for him.

In one of the meetings with the Greek's front man, Marlo clearly says that the greek might want insurance, like in case anything every happened to Prop Joe and the connect, and the Greek was okay with it. The way I see it, the Greek knows what's up, he knows he's out for prop joe, and knows "insurance" is just BS. Basically, by authorizing the connect with Marlo, he sanctioned prop joe.

ALSO, what is really interesting is that Sergei instinctively despises Marlo. Like he can't hardly stand to talk to the guy. Not because he's black or a drug dealer (Sergei obviously really liked Prop Joe, see Season 2) but because he's a "gang banger," ie a fool who lets testosterone over-rule business. Yet one more indication that the Greeks themselves should have hit Marlowe rather than letting him replace Joe. Vondas said many times how reliable Joe was.

@ravenouscolonelhart The thing is, they saw the writing on the wall. They knew Marlo was going to take out Joe one way or another and they saw his ambition. They probably foresaw bigger dollar signs coming from Marlo. Joe kinda reminds me of Frank Lopez in Scarface. He was content where he was at, wanted to stay lowkey. But the Marlo/Tony Montana character wanted bigger things and of course that means bigger risk. The Greeks knew Marlo was going to take over eventually.

Nah. All that "Westside love" stuff is crap. Avon just saw the chance to make some money and took it. He only asked for 100K, because if he tried to shake Marlo down for more he knew that Marlo would probably blow him off and try to get to the Greeks another way. Remember, Marlo went the Sergei route because he thought it would be the easiest; if he had to go another route, he would have. Hell, he could have tracked down Horseface. He'd have taken Marlo's money.
