What is the name of the other connector? I have the newer xbox lead, similar to the one you smashed open except it has the switch for TV-HDTV and it has a hole at the back of it for another cable and I don't think I should smash that open.

is the HDMI sound inferior? I have the elite one and I just got an 1080p HDTV and I just hooked in my HDMI cable, but I also have this audio adapter that goes where the old component cables I have went. I've googled around a bit and I'm still confused.

thanks, i wasn't sure how to hook up my xbox to my stereo without using toslink or s/pdif cables (my stereo is from the 90s, haha) and this saved me like 10 bucks from the adapter thing that microsoft is trying to rip you off on. and i couldn't figure out how to pry it open so i used a box cutter and pried it open. :) thanks dude, you got my sub.

i did this like 2 weeks ago and now my hdmi port doesn't work at all. i'd be in the middle of a game and the screen would go black for a second and then go back to normal and that happened more and more frequently and now my xbox wont start with both cables plugged in or the hdmi by itself. it will only work with the component or composite. anyone else have the same problem?

@hayden199516 you actually need to cut off the little tap that purposely blocks the hdmi output. They made the cable so that if you do pry it apart, the wires WILL get riped so do not try that, just try to get the little tab off.

Actually I have a slim, made 2011, and there is a tab, on the bottom., so i don't know...i guess break the tab to fit the hdmi?

I watch a You Tube on conversion of old 207W PS and adapter and hasn't failed once. I put a 2,500 Watt Paradigm Sudio Series surround sound on it and have to watch basically low def w/great sound. You come along an I remove blockage and everything works fine and have Hi Def? Why wouldnt MS want you to have your own choice? Thanks for the video!

Can anyone help me. I did this hack thing and I have my standard av cable (one you get with xbox) and hdmi cable plugged in.
