  • One last question, will any kind of clover oil work as long as it says "Eugenia caryophyllata Aromatherapeutic"? Or what brand do you recommend? Thanks!

  • @ChiliPepper37 Eugenol (clove oil)10 drops per liter (dissolve first in a small quantity of

warm water ...go to the pharmacy and ask for it. your pharmacist will know which brand he sells that is pure clove oil/EUGENOL

  • IXOYEtruth,

I would like to take the time to thank you for making this video. I have been surfing on youtube for years but I had never made an account. I was compelled to leave a comment on your wall so I made my account just to say how much I appreciate your video.

Not only are you an expert in trimming wens, but you have provided many individuals with a simple, cost-effective method of helping their orandas. Thank you! Q: I have all in 1 stress coat + water conditioner. Will that work?

  • How do you anesthetize the fish do you put the clove oil in the water or rub the fish with it. If you respond to this it would be very helpful.

  • Eugenol (clove oil)10 drops per litre (dissolve first in a small quantity of

warm water ...you put the fish in the clove oil and water solution just until he starts to tip over. Do the trimming then put him in fresh water to recover...Too long and he can pass, so just long enough to relax him...then work fast and get him to fresh water

  • Where do you get clove oil?

  • from your local pharmacist...

  • What do you use to anesthetize them and cut the wen?

  • Clove oil and s pair of surgical scissors...

  • I have to admit that you're incredible. You've got a great, steady hand, and I've used your video and suggestions to trim the wens of three of my black lionchus.

Since I have many fancies with wens, I've favorited your video just in case theirs grow out of proportion - currently not the case after doing three black lionchus already, thanks to you.

Thanks SO MUCH for providing this video. It is a lifesaver.

  • C2C,

Glad thiswas of some value to you...that is why I made it, in hopes that somebody could benifit from the experience...~IXOYEtruth...

  • Exellent job, well done!

Must have been nerve wraking the first time you attempted it!

Would you reccomend this procedure ONLY for fish in unfamiliar surroundings, or is it the best option for all Oranda's/Ranchu/Lionheads with over-grown wens?

  • I recommend this procedure ONLY for fish in unfamiliar surroundings...

  • Why recommend only for fish in unfamiliar surroundings?

I'm just curious since I have two lionheads and three ranchus with incredible wens. :-)

  • It is the gegneral concensus of the FANCY goldfish community that even though the wen covers their eyes, they can still fend for themselves and remain healthy...

  • well done!! im about to get an oranda in a couple of days time im currently getting rid of my other fish (giving them away) is this hard to do it seems so but you make it look easy to how old is your oranda he is very orange i like that.

    Great video Well Done!!!

  • thanks for this video- i am probably going to have to do this soon to one of my orandas, and this made me a bit less nervous.

  • you are certianly welcome...they'll love you for it...

  • ouch wont the wen bleed or wont it hurt the fish and will the fish die

  • Woah

    This looks hard

  • you don't, if they are housed in the same tank and feed in the same tank as when they were sighted...The wen can grow so large it covers their eyes and blinds them...I did this procedure because this fish was a rescue animal, and did not know it's surroundings. He could not find his food and did not move about the tank for long enough to be critical thet his wen needed trimmed...

  • Why do you need to trim orlandas?

  • Do you have an Oranda?, if you did then you would have done enough research to know about this procedure, and why and when to do it. I was only "showing" what I did. I by all means am not the end all to wen trimming...

    If you couldn't tell,

I obviously could care less about your opinion.

You, ASSCLOWN are not the voice of the people, and you dare call me Pompous?

  • This would be better with audio explanations as you go along. Not sure I could do this personally. I'm a bit squimish about it!

    Good video though.

  • Pictures are worth a thousand words... Basic surgery...

    anesthetize

    perform procedure

    recovery

  • you sound like a pompous ass. "basic pocedure" list fucking basic steps. douchebag... people can't even see you cut the wen. You were lazy and didn't want to describe what you were doing, don't act like a fucking pretentious dick who's always right and everyone should know everything about something before talking to you. asshole...

  • Yeah he will be...check out "wen trimming 2"

    and you are certainly welcome

  • When you are done trimming, revive him in the other tub of tank water. I worked the water through the gills, and he became wide awake in the tub. I dabbed some hydrogen peroxide on the wen and put him back in his tank...

  • I really appreciate it. Thanks alot, and I will definately be doing the procedure soon. Right now my oranda just has trouble finding his food, so im sure hell be much more active when i give him a trim.

    Thanks again, Marco

  • 5 drops per gallon and just watch for hiim to tip over...

  • you'll need two tubs of tank water. In one,

I used 5 drops of clove oil, per gallon of tank water.

Put your Oranda in there till he tips over...you'll see the gills still moving, he'll be alright. use sharp sissors and be careful not to poke him...just snip what you need to clear the eyes...

If he seems to be flinching return him to the clove oil water for a couple of minutes...

  • hydrogen peroxide...

  • thanks. I have a red oranda (lionhead) and his wen is about to cover both of his eyes. Im just really afraid to do this. Clove oil is an anesthesia, but I just dont know how much to put in there and how long to keep him in there?

  • What is that you are dabbing him with the Q tip? thanks

  • Dunno...never could get one to talk to me and tell me...

  • do goldfish feels pain?

  • Thats awesome you were brave enough to do this. I have been researching this for a while and dont have the guts to do it to my huge oranda Pierre. His wen has completely covered his left eye and almost all of his right. He still eats normally but he stays at the bottom and not as active since his vision has slowly declined. It really saddens me. You arent in the Georgia area are you???

  • It's really very easy...They heal up fast and the activity level after the trim is like the old Oranda, very active again...I'm in California, sorry...

  • I was browsing goldfish videos and saw yours. I never knew what the big blobs were on their heads until a few days ago. I'm new to fancy goldfish. I like the baby faces that these guys have. Does the wen just grow on and on, and need trimming? It looks like it hurts by the way he struggles when you're cutting. I would hate to do that....maybe I'll just stick with my ryukins!

  • what is that liquid you are spreading on your hands... is it stress coat?

  • Yes, it is stresscoat...Moose is doing fine and is playing all the ORANDA games with the other 8 Orandas we have...thanks for asking...

  • wen trimming 2 shows him now...

  • I Have an Oranda that has wen like jelly and she can't see very well. Does the fish see good now? Can you Post another video after the surgery?

  • He's doing fine...This was a rescue Oranda and the new surroundings baffeled him...That was the reason I chose to trim the wen...It is said that if they are in their same suroundings that they grew up in it is not nessasary...

If you choose to do the surgery, I used "clove oil" at 5 drops per gallon for the anasthesia, and just long enough to have him "tip" over...keep fresh tank water nearby for him to recover in...Good luck with your Oranda, I'll post a vid of him now...

  • Any comments or questions about this procedure?

  • I just bought 4 redcap orandas which are still very young. At what age do they require this?? Mine are 2 months old and their wen has hardly developed yet. Can I use lidocaine on them if they need trimming?? I used some on my calico ranchu "chester" to cut off a small tumor.

  • About 5 year old...lidocane is a local and the clove oil is a general anestesia.
