  • I remember seeing NIN in portland a couple years ago (my first real concert)

And The Bug opened for them, and Warrior Queen was singing her heart out, and dancing all over the place, and it was amazing.

But the audience was silent, and even antagonistic, no one would sing along or participate.

  • The censor didn't get Saul's use of the word NIGGA at all. It stands for all suppressed people all over the world.

  • who would want to ruin a work of art with this rediculous censorship. wtf!!!

  • where can you hear it properly?

  • lol this actually is rap. But I gotta agree... censoring a live performance is just stupid since you're silencing the whole sound, since you don't have an acapella and instrumental.

    It's just stupid.

  • 1. I love nin and screamed just to hear trent merely SPEAKING oh goodness. and was more excited when Saul williams was in it, but censoring it? not only was it done horribly, but it would go against EVERYTHING that BOTH Saul and Trent stand for. you're clearly not a fan. boo. shame on you

  • Wow. They censor the song and everyone posts the REALLY colourful shit in responses anyway. Smart fuckers... hang on - sheltered, overcompensative pindick geeks that wouldn't even shower naked coz they're such fucken prudes! Much more colourful page now - new experiences are such wonderful things.

  • uncensored version: =NJA_4gcrwEk

  • where my niggers at

  • its like cutting titties out of a michel angelo painting !!!!!!

  • anyone have the uncensored version of this????? please post!

  • is there a place to find the original audio before it was censored? i would like to have an mp3 of this

  • nice

  • trent reznor is one classy son of a bitch

  • The fact this is censored is the biggest irony considering what the songs direct toward.

FUCKING CENSORSHIP! Words are apparently illegal....

I'm Australian and were on the verge of being filtered into a controlled state of ignorance.

  • im sure there was a lot of his "niggas" at a nin concert.... god damn i hate pseudo-poets

  • @SwissChi That's kinda the point of the song, dude. Also, this might shock you, but there are actually black people who enjoy Nine Inch Nails. Just because a white guy makes the music doesn't mean it's only for white people. And I'm curious as to what makes Saul Williams a pseudo-poet. Is it just that he's paid for it? Because believe me--his stuff is leagues ahead of the vast majority of self-proclaimed 'unpublished geniuses'.

  • @11lbsofcheese Biologists study icebergs to find out how they influence ocean life. As icebergs melt, they leak nutrients into the ocean around them. Recent studies have shown that the water surrounding icebergs teems with plankton, fish, and other sea life.

  • with the censorship, it wasn't even worth putting on youtube sorry

  • @dicky00simcons

I think it's a great reason to post it! it's ridiculous and it may help wake some up to give a shit about the censorship !

  • Never forget that even Lennon's "Imagine" was banned from AM/FM radio playlists right after 9/11. We don't want anyone thinking about peacemaking while we engage our hard-on for droppin' bombs.

  • nice nice 2:30 wtf just happened? omg it keeps happening. ITS A MADHOUSE!

  • wow seriously? lets ruin the whole song why dont we...

  • wtf is up with the censorship of lyrics???!?

  • Stupid editing: where is the matter if an African-American says "nigger" ? Fuck censorship

  • @SilverOgre especially in this song.

  • I don't think that the word "truth" means what you think it does.

  • Sadly, there are probably nothin' but white people in the crowd

  • The song or your comment? If it's your comment then I am DEEPLY OFFENDED GOOD SIR. If it's the song then disregard my comment sir troll.

  • sad speculation

  • Epic fail...

  • Why is that sad? If you're a Saul Williams fan you know he doesn't care for speaking to only one audience. He'd rather his messages reach all races.

You should try listening to his music sometime, it's really enlightening. I think you need it.

  • Ive been listening to Saul Williams before you even knew who he was bro. Get your own heros, whitey.

  • Yeah, well, I think you should try SEEING Saul, LISTENING to Saul and your heart and mind would be so much more open. You're hateful and fans like you aren't what he desires if you actually knew anything about his music. Try not being a racist and your life might get better.

  • Please bitch, you dont know me. Im not a fan of Saul williams, Im his relative. You are definitely a fanatic.

  • 500 years of "messages" and whitey still hasn't got it. I mean how many Great Black men must die before you crackers speak on it. These clearchannel crackers banned Saul from the radio. THey may as well had killed him. Try coming at that devil, not me. I have the RIGHT to be angry.

  • For someone who is his "relative" you have very little faith in him and his messages.

He brought us here, a Black and White American trying to defend Saul's right to speak and be heard. I just wish you didn't seem so hateful. I and other fans couldn't entertain the prospect that you should pretend to be related to someone who is speaking messages of relations being understood, not hatred because I'm White and therefore, apparently, it means I can't listen to someone like your "relative."

  • And, by all that I meant, if my relative were doing so much to change the world I wouldn't consider him dead when he is very much alive.

If you live your life with less anger and use the intellect you are to combat a comment on YouTube maybe the world would change. I'm changing what I can in my world -- you're just gaining more a misguided anger that doesn't solve anything. If Saul were like you, would the world be the same? I think not.

  • This is my Sh!t mayne!

  • I can't say it any better than the others that have already posted, but the "censoring" of this song is such a kick in the gut... it infuriates me!

  • Sorry, but was not impressed with "umbrellaseance"

  • I find it utterly hilarious that they censor the word nigger in a song that is satiring its common usage. its almost going against what the song is about

  • Man for as simple as that song is musicly.Lyricaly this is a deep ass song.Finaly we got some lyricists with some balls that aren't afraid to speak about some real shit that people can relate to.Not...."Yo I gotta house on my wrist and diamonds on my fists.Got bitches on my shit and herpies on my dick"Get outta here with them wack ass lyrics.Hey bless artists like Saul Williams for keeping it real.Save the music y'all. Jayso.

  • Then who the hell marked this as spam??

(seriously, not me, but was this done in irony or something??)

  • Who the hell would censor NIN and/or Saul Williams? Trent's only the king of fucking censorship. To censor him is just a punch in the face...

  • im surprise they didnt censor "benefits... and a gun". or in fact the whole song. its a shame people aren't allowed to speak out loud any more.

  • Hey

I don't know if this is right to say but my interpretation of the song is that its ridiculing the word nigger.

It's drawin a line between the stereotype: "Downtown. On the block. At the club. Steaming hot" and something deeper and more historic, "African People"... Using a word like 'nigger' is reducing the history of black people everywhere.

I dunno, thats just the way i hear it. Don't think Saul would be usin it without good purpose tho ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • this censorship SUCKS!!!!!!

  • Agreed. It would just flow so much more if they would get over a few naughty words.

    Ps. What an amazing speaker!

  • I like the editing.

  • the $%&@*+* censorship $%&@# the music...

  • i dont fully understand censorship i mean most people here know what he is saying if if it is covered up so what is really the point

  • This would be so much better without the edits.

And if the audio/video were in synch.

  • Yeah sorry people, I was being sarcastic. Suppose that doesn't come across too well on here! I hate censorship too! In a song about the position of black people around the world, and the reasons for it, the parody of commercial rap is obviously very appropriate.

Like he says on another track: "Where my aliens at? We're all illegal. The system ain't for us, it's for rich people"

  • the edits make this unwatchable

  • WHERE MY NIGGAS AT?! Thats the best part in the song...come on. I'm black and I don't care. I have heard worse usage of the word (on here-youtube) this song is badass....

  • Why the fuck have they censored this?!

  • Meh, he supported a politician, one from Detroit (nothing but corruption)

    He still sucks.

  • the only way to express yourself is set up alternative structures to the existing parameters, then the only censorhip there is is the censorship of oneself. set up new spaces and fill it with music, art, creativity and the human spirit. tune into a better purpose, turn on to a higher frequency, and drop out of entrenched institutions

    hehe

  • Where is the freeding of expression and speach, Fuck censorship!

  • *Freedom

  • where are my NIGGAS at?! censoring this shows the hipocrisy of censorship.

  • this censorshit completely fucked this song. wish i could hear it in it's true epicness

  • I'm terribly offended by the censorship! What ignorant drainpipe sucking parasite fucked with this music?

  • who ever censored this god damned song needs to be fucking castrated...this isnt some fucking rap...this is a fucking message and pulling ONE WORD from it is completely destroying the impact that Saul was making...what...the...fuck...

  • censoring this song is like a kick in the face. shame on you censorship.

  • I can't believe you censored Saul Williams.

    Why?

  • This shit is intense.

I got "Niggy Tardust" straight after watching this.

    Brilliant.

  • Hey, is that Alex Carapetis on the drums?

  • wish the video was in sync with the audio..and that it wasn't edited

regardless, cool to cee. saul is one of the most inspirational of our time. no surprise he is affiliated with others that are the same.

  • Suvivalism....year zero remix...got Saul.

  • I love that Trent is willing to push the boundaries of his music and try alternate styles. Never conforming to what people want him to be.

  • Anybody know the name of this song, or what CD it's on at least?

  • it's called 'African Student Movement'

  • It's from his self-titled album. It's grrrreat. Especially Grippo.

  • It's a great album. But this live version is a lot more intense. Love it.

  • Even beeping the words sounds better than muting them

  • Wow this censorship sucks =/

  • Saul is a brilliant writer and voice, Trent is a brilliant arranger and composer (I know he didn't write the music for this song, but you can hear what he and the band have done with it). Together some amazing things happen. Shame about the censorship, but still very cool to watch.

  • ZOMG HE SAYZ BAD WORDZ BETTA MAKE SURE TO TURN DOWN DA VOLUME SOZ WE CANT HEARZ HIZ WORDS!!!!!!111111111111111

Censorship is the death of creativity.

  • It was in a state of emergency because of corruption. They don't call it the big easy just because of the amount prostitutes.

It is the most corrupt city in America. Well next Washington d.c.

The reason for the levies breaking is because the funds for it was not spent on it. It wasn't a white man, not George Bush. It was the black mayor.

Also i wish he'd stop using that so freaking much, sounds really stupid.

  • You know, perhaps you are on to something here. Are you talking about "the black mayor" Ray Nagin? Let's see: he was elected mayor in 2002; Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.

Yep. You got 'em. in those three years, Ray Nagin brought corruption to New Orleans, reinterpreted the nickname "the big easy" and started pulling bricks out of the levee protecting the Ninth Ward.

Oh wait - none of that happened.

Sorry, you were just being ignorant with your post. Well, don't let me stop you.

  • He's not talking Democrat or Republican, Politican A or B, He's talking about the entire American empire and wasted resources and the ruling elite's derelict priorities.

  • i wish saul williams had got to open for nin in 2005 at san anto..

  • Im one of the few who really got this in mp3 format ;P

  • Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back, all right?

  • Anyone can record this to mp3 format with the shareware program Freecorder

  • any chance that you could send me it via e-mail or msn or something? =)

  • Trent i have that bass.

    Saul your inspirational

  • the only video with alex carapetis in it. lol

  • The website the streamed the video free bleeped it unfortunetly, once upon a youtube account I had re-synched it with a audio rip of the show... However that account was deleted and I lost the master files...

  • there is an uncensored version of this video. does anyone have it?

i remember being incredibly moved while watching trent and saul do their magic. to revisit it only to find the "n word" and the "f word" bleeped out is very disappointing and disturbing. i wonder what the origin of that edit was and why it is taking place on youtube. this isn't abc for fuck's sake.

  • This is very dissapointing really. This censorship really gets me down, sure, it's a little bit understandable for televison, but for the internet? If anybody could sit down and realize that these words are words. and thats it, then I think something good could happen. Also I would love to see Trent say nigga. haha

  • I watch this video, and I still feel the same about the censorship. But I do also think now, this video is great to even have. This is such a great piece of art, and thank goodness the whole thing isn't censored. Because we know there are those who would want that. haha

  • it's not even 'nigger'.. it's nigga.. which to a black man is totally different..

it's unfortunate that censorship still exists withing art such as this..

nigga is so far from racist when used in the correct context..

i by the way hate what i am seeing happen within this horrible excuse we have for a word

'it seems our favorite pasttime is become our most feared future... gunshots by computer'

  • Hmm...is it just me or are the sound and audio out of sync? I noticed the same with the other Saul & NIN video.

  • I don't get it. Not that I have anything against Dave Chappell, but they let him say nigger all the time, on national television...

  • I think its because Trent is saying it.... white people cant use it and be politically correct....

  • Well I don't think the word is politically correct. Sad things is, it's glorified in rap and hip hop music today. I mean is it ok for only black people to say? Obviously Saul wasn't pissed with Trent saying the word. What if Trent had maybe had an emergency and run backstage? Would they have still bleeped it out with only Saul saying it? Althouigh, I do remember finding an un-cut version of this on here somewhere.

  • i think the word nigger is the most powerful word today. does it need any more by bleeping it out? it's sad when such a beautiful performance by an amazing, groundbreaking artist gets disrupted by self-censorship. what's going to happen to the net?

  • notice that now all you guys are now putting more atencion to the magic word then just ignoring it becase a black man is singing it, ithink the bleep gives more power to the n word ...

  • awesome performance except for the bleeps. does it have something to do with a white man doing back-up vocals during line with the word "nigger"? fuck that.

    -angry cracker

  • you seriously are a complete idiot

  • I think he is defending the use of the word "nigger" in a non-hateful way... Not racism.

  • yeah seedr0 at least you get it.

  • bummer that it's censored all over the place, because that's a killer performance.

"now tell me where my NGHs at? now tell me where my NGHs at?"

  • Sometimes you have to use words like that to slap people across the face with their own assumptions.

Sad part is, people are to ignorant to look past the fact someone might not be using the word to put down a race of people, but rather to use their own shock and outrage against themselves, and the likes. It's in our nature to assume the worst, and hide what we don't like or what reminds us of our worst selves. A pity.

  • screw censorship. There are hundreds of "gangsta rap" videos that say nigger every other word. why censor the good music?

  • Why is it ok to say words like "shit" and "fuck" but when an artist drops the n-bomb all the sudden it's a huge fucking deal. lame. first ammendment rights anyone??

  • ask the millions of dead Afrikans killed in amerikkan shitney!

  • So? The use of the word "nigger" is this context is not meant in the context it was during slavery in the US.

  • Great performance! Censorship sucks, though. :(

  • African people!

  • Why the censorship, what harm can a word do?

  • None at all, but people are weak.

nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger

now watch my comment be block or me be kick off YouTube.

  • Its a damn shame...kind of reminds me of that song Rock n Roll Nigger by Patti Smith...people never seemed to get the irony and just claimed that it was a racist song.

  • Seeing artist like this constantly reminds me we are still progressing, even with all the lil jons and fall out boys.

  • good stuff.

  • The strong move quiet, the weak cause riot.

That means you Gorbad. Trent, NiN and Saul Williams are all incredible talents.

  • thats alex on drums. anyway, does trent say the n word? that would be weird. weirder still in fausetto

  • #*@!

  • censored, lol, dammit

  • ninEth WArD_ zimBObWee>>>>... shAOLIN.... shoWdown

  • it completed ruins it by having it censored...holy crap, thats really annoying....come on trent.

  • this must have been when jerome dillon was drumming with nin right after with teeth come out....

anyway never heard much of saul williams till trent started working with him....if this is a hint of things to come then i'm looking forward to hearing more from this guy

  • He went to pee

  • Where the fuck is Freese?

  • cool!how's it feel to be on the NIN official youtube page?

  • I find it really dissapointing and quite sad when the words of an artist speaking for a good cause are censored. It's as if the producers/company are more concerned about not offending people in order to make more money than actually expressing the cause.

  • agreed. totally.

  • censored?? fucking retards missing the point of the lyrics. oooh dont say nigger under ANY circumstances! 100% it was a white guy who did it.

  • I really really really really really really liked saul williams old stuff and words in general. But this stuff seems ... hybrid. Maybe the recordings are better

  • Hey, that's a separate point.

  • This video clip is censored because it's from VH1 and they censored all of the Voodoo Feastival performances that were streamed on their website...

  • Same here, I know Saul cause of Trent, but I'm glad, cause he's a great artist

  • I forgot that NIN briefly had that oddball drummer.

  • Someone knows who censored this video?

  • this loses so much feeling being censored.

  • This song makes me feel bad being white.

  • I've been looking for this everywhere.

Is Trent saying "Where my Niggas at?"

  • Lol, yea.

  • Why the hell is this censored?

  • I was introduced to his books first, and you should also check those out. Quite the mind food. I sometimes can't stomach his radical feminism though.
