I honestly don't think he meant he was ACTUALLY "God" with that statement. I think Darkseid was comparing himself to God because of his immense strength and how his rule is law, as well as the fact that the people seem to honestly care for him and want to please him.
Darkseid must be God on his world. How else does he keep his teeth so near, clean, and shiny white, even if bleeds of split lip occasionally, and even after doing an impression of Mt. St. Helens with his cranium? Chances are those who helped him died soon after, it makes sense that those who saw someone powerful enough to give their God a hard time should die. If I were an evil god though, I would not mess around DS does, I'm the kind of villain who would rather take out serious opposition ASAP.

If I had way to get there, I would take the fight to Darkseid's turf too under such circumstances.

Darkseid is probably my favorite cartoon villain. He always had a personal effect on Superman. I still wonder how a piece of rock could deflect Darkseid's Omega Beam. There was also the issue of Superman's hands being able to have a backward effect on the Omega Beam. Still, for a cartoon, this was a brutal no holds barred fight. The Greek, Egyptian, and Norse gods were human-esque entities that were to explain natural events. (Thunder, earthquakes, bad harvests, etc.) so much of our fiction takes from those dead beliefs. You can see their influence with in dark side.
Talking of these gods is not blaspheme if you know it is a fantasy. You do not worship dark side, or pray to superman.

It looks like supes is having trouble here, but in the last episode of Justice League Unlimited he rips Darkseid a new behind. Darkseid had to use a trick to beat him at the last minute. :)

The Greek, Egyptian, and Norse gods were human-esque entities that were to explain natural events. (Thunder, earthquakes, bad harvests, etc.) so much of our fiction takes from those dead beliefs. You can see their influence with in dark side.
Talking of these gods is not blaspheme if you know it is a fantasy. You do not worship dark side, or pray to superman.
