  • This band is the only band to consistently make me weak in the knees. There are times that I can't help but weep when I hear this music. I know that sounds lame but it's true. Great respect for this group.

  • nice recording, thanks...wish to Sea the rest of the Band? still, nice sound*

  • OMG, this sounds so amazing for a live recording...WOW!

  • @stingray1964 The are lie better then the CD version. Last year i was at two concert's of Brendan Perry & band, amazing!

  • if you dont love DCD then ur life must be shitty living in a smalll box sheltered from reality

  • This is great. Jim Morrison feel, but no temporal obligations.

  • This is great.

  • reminds of the Doors...love that strange sound, is it an organ?

  • Best

  • One of my favorite songs ever! Namaste all!!! MySpaceDotComSlashBolafeld

  • I ask in 2011...WHY can not more male singers sing with such conviction, richness, and tone as Brendan Perry? Why instead do we have all this whining that is passed off as "singing"?!

  • @auditoryarmory because men have been beaten into political correctness....instead of just being men and the food now has stuff in it that changes brain chemistry...and men whine like little girls...I mean their behave like women.

  • @aerodarts

only a politically incorrect idiot uses the phrase 'politically corret' why don't you keep your stupid mouth shut and stick to your hate mongering tea party rallies

  • @auditoryarmory Well, let's be honest, MOST pop singers (male OR female) are pretty awful artists. You can't really blame the singer so much... blame the people who fall all over themselves telling them how great they are, etc; blame the record companies, blame the PR guys, and blame the simplistic fools who BUY the music that's put out by those awful "artists."

Also, for the record, Brendan Perry sings like a man should, so that helps. :)

  • @auditoryarmory

    amen

    amazing..

    beautiful

    underrated

  • One of my very first features on YouTube :)

    I *love* this performance ♥

  • i saw him last night. He didn't sing this song and I LOVE this song! he was mesmerizing though.

  • Amazing sound, the most amazing band.

  • I regret so much not being there!! Though I've seen them in their early days in Zoetermeer, Den Haag, Utrecht and Amsterdam. Thank you for posting!

  • I so love this song! I have it on my iPod's "running" playlist; it always kicks me into high gear!

  • Utter perfection. Brendan Perry's voice is truly powerful in real life, it boooooms, and is beautiful. I was lucky to see DCD in 2005. I hope one day to do so again!

  • Brandon,

always MY own personal favorite half of Dead Can Dance,

    everyone usually likes Lisa more,

how could a mixture of Jim Morrison and Frank Sinatra not be the most perfect voice,

always wondered if this song wasnt his Lament to Lisa, supposedly they were lovers and they broke up and this record was produced at that time

  • @liverawkstar What a riot - "Jim Morrison & Frank Sinatra"! I felt that especially on The Carnival is Over.

  • @ytcarol

well Brandon has dates with Robin Guthrie (cocteau twins) coming in weeks:

San Francisco and Los Angeles around the weekend of 6/11

  • @liverawkstar thanks... i joined songkick dot com and they just notified me Brandon and Robin are playing in D.C. this Monday - so now I have tickets and can't wait!

  • @liverawkstar i am SOOOOOO with you

his voice is amazing.. like butter. and i always favor his songs over hers

  • definately an all time great. So powerful, not safe to listen to it all day long, but I want to.

  • This is without a doubt my favorite song of all time. Personally I find this Live version better then the cd. DCD 4 Life...

  • AWESOME!!

  • one of the best song ever!

  • Orgasmic !!

  • Orgasmic !!

  • Very cool !!

  • THANK YOU! I'm not always a fan of live versions and had definitely considered the studio recording of this song sacrosanct... but this blows my mind. Great job on preserving the audio quality!

  • Awesome performance and very good sound.

    Thanks for positing.

  • I heard this song on the radio one day sometime in 1992 or 93 (I think) and have been a fan of DCD ever since. Thank you to Lisa, Brendan and all other artists involved with this project throughout the years. You have enriched my life and the lives of many others.

  • Amazing, amazing song; artist! I love that DCD's music doesn't fit anywhere and yet it fits everywhere.

  • THIS IS ABSOLUTE MUSIC

  • my favourite band ever!!!

  • Is this full concert in the hague edited in DVD or other video format? or perhaps available in any torrent site?

  • @cabomusico You're right it's from a dvd, the link have been posted on Lisa Gerrard's forum in the past. I just edited and uploaded it here.

  • @musicaeternal can you tell me where I can find that DVD, it's an unofficial DVD, right?

    thanks...

  • I'm transported by this song. Well, maybe it's because it's 3 in the morning, but it's deep and rich and beautiful. Love that man's voice. *sigh*

  • i love him...

  • After all these years, the man's voice still makes me weak in the knees...

  • fucking amazing

  • Wow, this version is almost better than

the album version! Brendan Perry gets better with age. Of course, he has always been the perfectionist! I saw them in Dallas, Tx in 1996, and this version is even better!

  • Amazeing! Just amazeing!

  • awesome music! thank you for posting such a high quality video!

  • One of the best songs written...

  • one of my all time favorites by this band.. right next to the garden of arcane delights: the arcane.. <3

  • can't stop watching this video.... perry's voice is magic.... i feel like i'm hallucinating ...

  • superfantastic!!!!!!!!!

  • I once sold Lisa Gerrard a jar of stuffed peppers, some salami and some goat's cheese.

  • Nice picnic :)

  • @KingofClothFair I bet she was gearing up for a fucking mean turkish bread sandwich.

  • super

  • ...sensual and profound...

    ...great performance indeed...

    xxx

    Peg@

  • stupenda bellissima.... molto ben fatta.....grazie..a chi la publicata....

  • great performance indeed

  • this quality of sound is expectaculary clean and without dirty sounds thanks for sharing !

  • The video is edited with the official recording of the hague that The show did for dcddisc :)

  • @MusiqueMMUS Absolutely sparkling mix!! WOW!!

  • sound quality of this video is tits. quality control approves!

  • Nice voice and FX!

  • i give you a simple examples...this year Eurovision if you know what i mean, look at Sweden , look at Great Britain's performers ? ...can you say they deserve victory LESS then Alexander Rybak, can you say Uzbekistan is really more talanted then Sweden's La Voix ? ...well...not me atleast...if you disagree with me, then its obvious you're brainwashed by todays standards of election...

  • ...that happens because people surrender on hope, because we lost our morals...we should FIGHT it ! we should fight against cruelty and nowadays injustice ! we can survive...noone else can do this ! only we MORTAL people can do it ! ...we should stand up and fight for our rights !

  • ...never wondered why we loved hairstyles from 80's and hate it now ? ...never wondered why call now some 80's music CHEESY, when it was a huge and considered by the overall hit those times ? ...evolution you'd say ? ...barely...since 80's we're not evolving, we're degrading and nowadays cruelty and injustice is a prove !

  • ...try to understand people just brainwashed by today's music standards, look at 90's what considered good then is considered bad now by the most, world is changing, but not in a good way and thats not my vision on things, thats an obvious fact ! ...we live in a time of cruelty and injustice, where rulers impose us their lifestyles and ideology...and its working people easily went into those games...we aren't even notice what this system, used against ourselves has a negative impact on us...

  • wow. awesome performance.

  • This guy is amazing. I mean, despite Gerrard´s versatility in singing, Brendan´s unaltered voice is the constant essence of the band.

  • There were some mistakes, but it was a great performance! Brendan's voice is amazing!

  • Masterfully done, DCD is like hearing real angels on earth sing.

  • Perfect.

  • Wow.

  • brilliant song!

  • what a wonderful voice, song musical univers!!! God exist, that's true!

  • DCD my favourite band of all the times, since i was born, grown with them, linked their songs.. Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegroove, just awesome, marvelous!

  • I totally agree. I hadn't heard anything about them lately, and Lisa has gone on to so many other projects, I had figured they were split...

  • one of my favorite songs off DCD

  • neverovatno....

  • excellent composition

  • One of the last bands that makes you feel well and in connection with the Universe. Imagine listening to them in Elqui Valley in Chile with just the great skies above you. It is an experience that every human being should have. Just you, your girl, some food and DCD.. Cheers from Chile!

  • Always gives me such a thrill listen to Dead Can Dance and Brendan Perry solo albums: i'm waiting for his new work ARK, that will be released in October!

  • wow! his voice is so AMAZING live, i can hardly believe it. this band is so awesome and i'm so glad i discovered them!

  • DCD are an untouchable band,i saw them in 1984 at Fulham Town Hall and even then you just knew you were priviledged to encounter music with real emotion and feeling. That night when they played Threshold and just cant tell you all how amazing it sounded. The support act were Ten Thousand Mexicans who were pretty decent themselves, does anybody out there know what happened to them??

  • I've been there when it was played. My...It still is and always will be such amazing music. Deep and penetrating the soul on so many levels.

  • So deep ,So liquid...

  • I always thought he sounded like a cross between Frank Sinatra & Jim Morrison.

  • It is weird, but I think he sounds a lot like Frank Sinatra . . . . if Frank dropped acid. Nice voice.

  • this song is beautiful. sad but beautiful. he has such a haunting voice.

  • yeah right:)... but the point is the same....

  • Great song, sad message that I already used to express my disapointment with someone..t.

  • Brendan Perry is spine-tinglingly, amazingly talented. I'm in awe every time I listen to DCD.

  • good music and good message......

"In darkness my heart was wrong" that's a good answer for alot of questions.

  • actually there is "In darkness my heart was won" so it's answer for some other questions ;)

  • DCD's music is magical!

  • He has a great voice, I luv it!

  • The lyric "We keep time to the beat of an old slave drum" I believe is to symbolize the modern day clock. I read in a book how the clock was created to govern the working hours of man back in the day, hence "the beat" is the clocks ticking and the "old slave drum" of course is the clock. One thing for sure this is the sexiest song ever written I can remember lots of deep moments, and hopefully many more to come.

  • Man I went through a hard core period in my life and this song summed up that time fantastically. I get chills listening and wanting to be that raw and uncomfortable again,,

  • Oh man....I can't believe this is a live record...It's too good...Amazing vocals

  • this is the best song about love I have ever heard

  • my favourite song!!!:)))))))))))))))))

  • something quite adorable ... try to play that bass riff and at the same time sing in quite different rhythm ...i guess one can learn it, but still

  • Dead Can Dance are the perfect example that good music is Timeless...

I hear the songs thousands of times...with the same emotion of the first time i heard their sound, years ago, in 89 or 90...

    One word? AMAZING

  • the vocals are glorious..one of my favorite songs by them

  • aquello video es poulit tabes

  • I wish Nine Inch Nails would cover this song.

  • what a fucking good idea... my two favorite bands reunited :)

  • The first time I heard this song I was entranced and mesmerized--I haven't stopped listening since. I wish they hadn't "disbanded" Dead can Dance was a wonderful group!

  • I have played this song for my daughter at nap time and bed time since she was born. I love it.

  • can anybody tell me where in The-Hague this awsome recording took place. Looks to me it was "Paard van Troye" but i'm not sure.

  • musik und stimmen vom feinsten. danke

  • love love love love...

    this is talent right here.

  • I love Perry's voice, it's so calming...

    idolo sin duda!

  • funny, the first time I heard this song I was working on an Arabian/Egyptian style poster. I love when music so perfectly matches the work Im doing:)

  • haunting... I LOVE

  • wow! excellent sound! was in the dcd reunion concert in barcelone, brendan messed up on the lyrics of this song there. he's as good as piss in that live session.

  • Can anybody tell me what that style of guitar is? Is that East Indian-influenced? Like a crazy slide guitar? Where can I find more music just like that. That beat speaks to me. Your comments welcome.

My Mom turned me on to this song... I'm guessing she discovered it in the 1980's? She was Goth before Goth existed.
