What an absolutely beautiful song... there has never in the history of human existance, has ever been a more powerful song.... What a joy to listen too. Thank you Dead Can Dance for your Magic....
This band is the only band to consistently make me weak in the knees. There are times that I can't help but weep when I hear this music. I know that sounds lame but it's true. Great respect for this group.
I ask in 2011...WHY can not more male singers sing with such conviction, richness, and tone as Brendan Perry? Why instead do we have all this whining that is passed off as "singing"?!
@auditoryarmory because men have been beaten into political correctness....instead of just being men and the food now has stuff in it that changes brain chemistry...and men whine like little girls...I mean their behave like women.
only a politically incorrect idiot uses the phrase 'politically corret' why don't you keep your stupid mouth shut and stick to your hate mongering tea party rallies
@auditoryarmory Well, let's be honest, MOST pop singers (male OR female) are pretty awful artists. You can't really blame the singer so much... blame the people who fall all over themselves telling them how great they are, etc; blame the record companies, blame the PR guys, and blame the simplistic fools who BUY the music that's put out by those awful "artists."
Also, for the record, Brendan Perry sings like a man should, so that helps. :)
Utter perfection. Brendan Perry's voice is truly powerful in real life, it boooooms, and is beautiful. I was lucky to see DCD in 2005. I hope one day to do so again!
@liverawkstar thanks... i joined songkick dot com and they just notified me Brandon and Robin are playing in D.C. this Monday - so now I have tickets and can't wait!

The lyric "We keep time to the beat of an old slave drum" I believe is to symbolize the modern day clock. I read in a book how the clock was created to govern the working hours of man back in the day, hence "the beat" is the clocks ticking and the "old slave drum" of course is the clock. One thing for sure this is the sexiest song ever written I can remember lots of deep moments, and hopefully many more to come.

Brandon,
always MY own personal favorite half of Dead Can Dance,
everyone usually likes Lisa more,
how could a mixture of Jim Morrison and Frank Sinatra not be the most perfect voice,
always wondered if this song wasnt his Lament to Lisa, supposedly they were lovers and they broke up and this record was produced at that time
liverawkstar 10 months ago 9
@liverawkstar What a riot - "Jim Morrison & Frank Sinatra"! I felt that especially on The Carnival is Over.
