Ford may have not taken the bailout shit but they still havent been and never will be the number 1 automotive producer in the world. so ford can powerstroke its shit ass quality motors right into the furnace cause chevy needs more metal to make their duramax.
tie rods on chevys always break in pulls...its a fact of life...good ol IFS on a diesel! once they put sleeved tie rods on tho they are normally pretty good
I bet that majority of this truck is stock and when put under that kind of pressure anything will break I have owned all the big 3 diesels and My Cummins and Duramax are the only ones I still own because they can handle the work I put them through I will continue to buy old Cummins and new Duramax's until something better and stronger cummins out
If breaking a tie rod is the only reason you wouldnt own a duramax.. you may be retarded. Dodge transmissions are much more expensive than replacing tie rods. Ford's 6.0 and 6.4 bullsh*t is much more expensive than replacing tie rods. Oh and upgrade tie rods can be bought.
The 7.3 Powerstroke is the only ford diesel that was worth a darn, they would run quite a while before they break! The 6.0 and 6.4 are both trash, too complex. Time will tell if the 6.7 is any better, not holding my breath. Nothing wrong with an IZUZU/Duramax, it kicks the 6.0 and 6.4 Power Strokes butt!! NAVISTAR tried to copy the Duramax, Epic FAILURE! The Allison Transmission is the best in the business! Take one apart side by side with the FORD, you will be amazed!
@wolfram00777 They only way FORDs do that is because people run the shit out of them, that will happen to any truck. PowerStroke is a great engine, and cummins is better. Duramax was just to late. But not all trucks are perfect. The best truck you can have is Cummins on ford, with allison tranny.
The Duramax looks like it broke the Chevy. All trucks suck. You need a Cummins on a Ford frame and axles, a allison tranny, a Atlas T-case, GM suspension, and pick your own body, that wood be a real truck.
the video should be re titled why not to make huge reliable HP without upgrading your tie rods.. i have a cummins but the duramax is by far and away the next best thing
tie rod failure Ford=solid straight axles no tie rod failure Dodge equals=solid straight axle no tie rod failure chevy=good engine why in the crap would you put IFS on a 3 quarter ton?????????? tie rod fail
dodge isnt much better the upper and lower ball joints are loose at 10,000 miles and drive all over the road when trac bars are loose. people have there own opinions
Looked like a drivetrain issue to me (front passenger axle shaft most likely), nothing to do with the duramax. You're just a little Ford or Dodge fanboy that's ignorant. I might be a Chevy guy, but I do like Dodge and Ford to. Maybe people need to realize it's not even Chevy vs Dodge vs Ford anymore except little here and there, it's really domestic vs japanese import now.
So, because a basically stock truck with IFS torques the crap out of the front wheels, this is why not to buy a Duramax? That's like saying not to buy a plasma TV because it's going in a room the will have the lights turned on once in a while.
Let's be honest now.... how many people are going to buy a heavy duty diesel truck and go pro pulling with it? Probably less than a tenth of 1%, if that. Besides you can always buy beefier aftermarket stuff anyway....
I could show all of you why not to be a Cummins.. come one. They all have their weak points! Actually the new Chevy IFS front end is rated for more than the Dodge solid axle. I like all the 3 new trucks, but I would have my specific reasons for each of the trucks I'd buy. The Ford and Dodge to work, the Dodge and Chevy to play.. Maybe I am a little Dodge biased still.
This is your reasoning for "not buying a Duramax". You see, when you hook a truck like this to a sled you're OVERLOADING or Exceeding the capacity of the truck. It's driver error, not the truck.
lol...Duramax has nothing to do with it. I have heard of almost no problems with the engine....until someone pulls a giant sled with it...lol JK There is no telling how much previous abuse this engine had taken before this pull anyway. I would judge an engine after actual statistics, not the random "I know a guy with a ford that ran off the road and smashed into a tree so ford sux!!" type comments.
none of these truck manufacturers ( Ford Chrysler, nor Chevy make their own diesel engines. Powerstroke is made by International harvester, Chrysler is Cummins. and Chevy is Isuzu. So they are all Bastardized.LOL
no a ford would handle that torque. and if u put a pos duramax in a ford it would run like shit and blow the first day. u knw gm is own by the goverment and u knw they dont no money into the car or pos truck anymore. haha pay for it worth the money and time.

@voic3z Get your facts right bud, they did take the bailout, they did however pay it back, but they are now government owned. They're designed to tow a load over the road, not drag it WOT thru the dirt. (Rolls eyes) A few hundred on a set of Kryptonite tie-rods and they're good. Seems to me everyone I know with a Dodge has had to replace the whole friggin front end cause it falls apart (Literally apart on one friend's truck. LOL). Love my D-max!! My first Ford was my last, and I PERSONALLY won't buy a Dodge...I DO like the cummins (12v), but the box it's packaged in.............not so much.
Well the tie rods broke... Much more than can be said for the engine...Those Duramax Diesel engines are pretty good engines... Even if the truck is less than :)
@toasty303 I mean I know everybody has their preference on diesel motors. I like Duramax's. But Cummins and the 7.3 Powerstroke are great motors don't get me wrong. I am just a GM guy. But this here has nothing to do with the motor. All the front axles. I wish GM would either build the front IFS stronger on these trucks or just go back to the old straight front axle. Just sayin...
@ButtMicSays well said all these people are like fords are the clear cut best but really there all about the same and they all have there advantages and disadvantages but its more of a personal preference like im a cummins guy but duramax and the powerstroke both deliver great performance
@juicebox6666 Exactly! They're all good trucks! All can do the same amount of towing and all the power is pretty much the same. Like the Cummins is a great motor don't get me wrong, but if I get a Cummins it's gonna have an Allison transmisson. That there would be, in my opinion, the best way to go. But to each is own! I don't bag on other trucks. I know they are all good. Just like GM trucks!
Why not to buy a duramax? Every truck has their breaking point. Every truck is treated and maintained differently. Many factors come into play when stuff breaks on vehicles. As you can see here he is doing a truck pull. Truck pulls are just bout the worst thing for a vehicle. The guy probably beats the shit out of it. Every truck breaks. All depends on what parts are put into the vehicle and how it was driven. This has nothing to do with the brand. Just what the vehicle is being used for here.
It's an easy fix. It should've been one of the first thing the guy did before even pulling. BUY TIE ROD SLEEVES. It surprises me that no one does this. It's not the truck's fault, it's the driver's.
Dumb shit its doing a pull u fucktard shit breaks just like my cummins and my brothers powerstroke u cant just say dont buy a duramax cause shit breaks
Alot of the parts breaking can partially be blamed on the engineers. After working at a dealership for 3 years you soon see how badly they put these vehicles together. Like a Ford for example, can't remember if its only the diesels or not, but to do a complete engine swap (I think thats what it was), you have to lift the entire cab off the the truck before you can do anything with the engine. It's retarded. They need to work on these vehicles after they're built, and see how stupid their work is
You know whats funny, people talk shit about Chevy and GMC being for pussies, but they are the only full size trucks that don't depend on being stupidly oversized and role prone in order to appeal to men who feel the need to compensate for something in order to sell. My best friend has had a 2500 from Ford, Dodge and GMC and he says the GMC is the best by such a margin that they are practically incomparable.
its not the duramax that failed as much as the drivetrain. chevy uses cv's in all there trucks. the cv's are tougher than u think. but i prefer my straight axles none the less
@redneck970 the duramax diesel engine is manufactured and designed at Isuzu, Chevy only installs them the fact that the IFS failed is solely on GM them selves. Honestly any real truck driver will admit this though, although not the best work horse like a ford or a dodge its still gonna be a relaxing ride home while you chill over the pot holes. LOL being a ford man myself it does suck when you hit a pot hole with a straight front 95 f250 7.3 powerstroke lol. Thats IMHO though
@redneck970 Gotta love them 7.3s lol... fuckin ford screwed shit up with the 6.0 diesel 7.3 IMO is probably the best engine to work with when diesel draggin cummins are great but those two extra cylinders add up in the long run although torque is unmatchable with that straight six
@jeffsalome what does gmc have? nothing ford ? nothing chevy has best trann dodge has best engine annd there coming with i think what 3 new ones? speak after those come out
Read popular mechanic's article about the 2011 diesel trucks and see whos got what. Dodge is weak at 350hp and 650 lb/ft of torque Ford second place at 390hp and Chevy is #1 at 397hp stock. Look at the trial runs on Chevrolet Tube with ACI testing
@PowerstrokeForever Good one, but Ive had nothing but gms since i could drive and never had one leave me stranded. But my companies shit box ford 550 2006 has left many of my co workers stranded. oh yah it has a powerchoke in it.
@wkeil1981 Worst year for a diesel besides 05, the 6.0 wasn't refined yet, wouldn't say the same about a 7.3, 6.4, or 6.7 Powerstroke. Not to mention, the 6.0 following 2006 had less warranty repair than the 7.3. The 6.0 just got pushed into production too quick; a mistake on both Ford and International. Who is to blame got tied up in court and they are no longer partners. Damn shame.
@wkeil1981 while your pushing your chevy i'll black smoke you in my ford.. thats retarded.. why would you rather push a truck than drive one?! chevy is american made too lmfao

Furd PowerStrokes CANNOT even last long enough to break the truck!
Furd's eat turbo's, valves, heads, cylinders, injectors, and the HORRID electrical system and the transmission is 1 word = JUNK.
Duramax engines RUN without having to be replaced at 50,000 with a re-man engine.
I have seen countless Furd Diesels they ALL suffer chronic problems, and most are NOT fixable without spending MORE money than the truck is worth.

The steering was fucked up before he started to pull...check out the video when he is stopped before the race...the wheels are towed in.
moonshineinsummer1 4 months ago
Why not to buy a duramax? Every truck has their breaking point. Every truck is treated and maintained differently. Many factors come into play when stuff breaks on vehicles. As you can see here he is doing a truck pull. Truck pulls are just bout the worst thing for a vehicle. The guy probably beats the shit out of it. Every truck breaks. All depends on what parts are put into the vehicle and how it was driven. This has nothing to do with the brand. Just what the vehicle is being used for here.
summitkid13 4 months ago
i think that was above the max towing weight set by chevy. i think.
k33ps 4 months ago
nah needs to be titled dont pull 15000lbs as fast as you can with your duramax
faststang02 4 months ago
It's an easy fix. It should've been one of the first thing the guy did before even pulling. BUY TIE ROD SLEEVES. It surprises me that no one does this. It's not the truck's fault, it's the driver's.
7707Allen 4 months ago
Dumb shit its doing a pull u fucktard shit breaks just like my cummins and my brothers powerstroke u cant just say dont buy a duramax cause shit breaks
85ChevyMonteCarloSS 4 months ago
Alot of the parts breaking can partially be blamed on the engineers. After working at a dealership for 3 years you soon see how badly they put these vehicles together. Like a Ford for example, can't remember if its only the diesels or not, but to do a complete engine swap (I think thats what it was), you have to lift the entire cab off the the truck before you can do anything with the engine. It's retarded. They need to work on these vehicles after they're built, and see how stupid their work is

This is why you dont put independent front suspension in a diesel

haha yea cuz that was the engine that broke

You know whats funny, people talk shit about Chevy and GMC being for pussies, but they are the only full size trucks that don't depend on being stupidly oversized and role prone in order to appeal to men who feel the need to compensate for something in order to sell. My best friend has had a 2500 from Ford, Dodge and GMC and he says the GMC is the best by such a margin that they are practically incomparable.

Good old IFS :-) All the truck wanted to do is perform a little jig for everyone :-)

@billiambarnett idler arm? or is that how they act with a locker?
Digger818 4 months ago
@Digger818 IFS independent front suspension...
billiambarnett 3 months ago
it appears to be a tie rod or pitman arm that broke
dantheman167 4 months ago
its not the duramax that failed as much as the drivetrain. chevy uses cv's in all there trucks. the cv's are tougher than u think. but i prefer my straight axles none the less
redneck970 4 months ago
@redneck970 the duramax diesel engine is manufactured and designed at Isuzu, Chevy only installs them the fact that the IFS failed is solely on GM them selves. Honestly any real truck driver will admit this though, although not the best work horse like a ford or a dodge its still gonna be a relaxing ride home while you chill over the pot holes. LOL being a ford man myself it does suck when you hit a pot hole with a straight front 95 f250 7.3 powerstroke lol. Thats IMHO though
ikaikaboy88 4 months ago
@ikaikaboy88 More so designed in conjunction with general motors. The engine is made at the Moraine, Ohio general motors facility.

@ikaikaboy88 Ya i got the 89 with the 7.3 idi ats turbo'ed. but ya a chevy's ride is way better
redneck970 4 months ago
@redneck970 Gotta love them 7.3s lol... fuckin ford screwed shit up with the 6.0 diesel 7.3 IMO is probably the best engine to work with when diesel draggin cummins are great but those two extra cylinders add up in the long run although torque is unmatchable with that straight six

But my companies shit box ford 550 2006 has left many of my co workers stranded. oh yah it has a powerchoke in it.
wkeil1981 4 months ago
@wkeil1981 Worst year for a diesel besides 05, the 6.0 wasn't refined yet, wouldn't say the same about a 7.3, 6.4, or 6.7 Powerstroke. Not to mention, the 6.0 following 2006 had less warranty repair than the 7.3. The 6.0 just got pushed into production too quick; a mistake on both Ford and International. Who is to blame got tied up in court and they are no longer partners. Damn shame.
TheDruryKA 4 months ago
@wkeil1981 while your pushing your chevy i'll black smoke you in my ford.. thats retarded.. why would you rather push a truck than drive one?! chevy is american made too lmfao
