Oh the other day, it came to me...I thought could it be that someone has dowloaded Gidget..I remember watching 50s and 60s movies as a pre-teen and teenager in the late 70s and early 80s as they were frequent on australian tv on Sat and Sunday afternoons..I LOVED GIDGET and especially MOONDOGIE..Take a simple story cute boy and shy girl add romance and music and you have todays HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL.

I just watched the surf documentary "Riding Giants" where they referenced this movie as a cutural turning point in which 5000 surfers worldwide turned into almost a million surfers two years after the movie came out. It was interesting to see the "subtext" of this movie -- "get a job, a wife and integrate into society or you have no future" In reality, the 1950's mythical future was what changed with the 60s and the 70s. very odd

I remember this movie and said I'd watch the 1st of the 10 installments for old times sake and I enjoyed it so much, I watched all 10. What a great movie! I wish my teen years were like this!

ALWAYS the HAPPY ending, too bad life isn't like that for real! It's a coincidence, but is JAMES DARREN related to BOBBY DARREN? Sandra married BOBBY! I think she really did love him to the end! She wasn't into drinks at first, but it's known she was a heavy drinker, which lead up to her death. REALLY sad, but DEPRESSION will do it to you BIG STAR or NOT.

I'd forgotten how good this movie is and how much I related to the awkward girl Francie. Most of all, I'd forgotten what a hunk Cliff Robertson was back then. oo-la-la. Lots of surfing and beach scenes. A great all-around summer fun movie. Thanks for posting.

While there may soon be yet another 21rst century reality show with a bunch of shallow losers who hang at a fake beach in a building pondering their next hostile act, conspiracy or betrayal against an opposing team here we have good old 20th century clean and awesome entertainment that was worth going to see and is still worth watching. Somehow the all-time classics remain all-time classics and will forever be a cut above the boring and stupid scum that is on now !

Thanks very much for posting this. I recently watched Kevin Spacey's "Beyond the Sea" (the story of Bobby Darin) and, knowing that Darin was married to Dee, I wanted to see a Sandra Dee movie.
