No getting around that Letterman's joke was awful. But if Palin really gave a crap about Willow, she wouldn't have milked the controversy and kept it in the spotlight as much as she did. This was really about Sarah Palin, who was embarrassed about being upstaged by Newt Gingrich during her trip to the lower 48 and COULDN'T HAVE BEEN HAPPIER to a controversy in which she could be the center of attention again. That Willow was also in the spotlight didn't really matter. Sarah comes first.

The reason the Palin's are upset because the 14 year old one was the one in New York and Bristol, who is 18, was not. So When Lettermen made the joke about being knocked up in New York, they took it as meaning Willow, the 14 year old, and that would be statutory rape because of Willow is underage. I think Lettermen should not have made the joke and the Palin's have the right to be upset, but they should have accepted the apology to spare their young daughter.

The screen writers knew from the paper who Palin was with. Accompanying Palin on the trip is her husband, Todd, and the couple's 14-year-old daughter, Willow.
These jokes are gone over with a fine tooth comb before airing. That is why you call them SCREEN writers! Letterman passed it. Bristol's name was NOT in the papers. The one person Dave knew for sure was not at the game was Bristol

Normally, I Cenk and his up front views, but he definitely has it wrong this time around. A comedian like David Letterman has the right to make jokes all day long, but crossing the line and making a perverted joke about the 14 year old daughter (who was the actual one at the game) is completely unnecessary. It also shows his viewers where his train of thought is in suggesting anybody "knock up" a 14 year old girl.

I didn't say that. I know Bush used a teleprompter, most famously during a UN speech where certain names and nations were spelled out phonetically for him so he'd pronounce them correctly (lol). I even strongly suspect he used an earpiece during debates and was fed answers. But mostly I didn't notice one way or another. Bush rarely strung a coherent sentence together no matter how much help he had.
The teleprompter thing is pure RW distraction, just like the faux outrage on Palin's behalf.

I'm an independent, I never had great hopes for Obama and I haven't been disappointed. I voted for him just to keep McCain/Palin out - that would have been an unmitigated disaster.
If Letterman fucked up then so did Leno and O'Brien with similar jokes last year, but Palin never whined about them. That's because she had all the cameras on her then, she didn't need to draw attention to herself. Now she's carrying on just for media attention. She's making a fool of herself and so are you.
