I am very thankful for the variety of different cars we have today as far as performance and even as daily drivers. @silvertip69 1500 rpm power band? Anti lag builds boost off the line so the car wouldn't stay at 1500 rpm obviously. It would launch off 3000 rpm or 4000 depending on the traction. Anti lag keeps the engine in a higher power band & builds boost at the same time. So when the car launches theres no turbo lag & there for the engine can reach its max power band faster. So your statement of 1500 rpm is stupid & honestly your the one that seems to not know shit.

You can bore out the cylinders to get faster spool, and its more like 200hp to about 4k when boost kicks in because you obviously must think when boost kicks in you are at full boost, his hp will start to skyrocket as soon as he hits what 15psi-30/40psi... from the line he is going to launch at something like 3-4k rpm and thats still only 2-3k rpm for that "boom 800hp"

People ramble on about the 2JZ and technology and that but whats funny is the motor is cast iron, an old as fuck outdated material used to make engine blocks and these kids had the nerve to call V8's heavy when the 2JZ with trans is over 700lbs for fucks sakes.

How about figure the other things that make it worth its price used. Also cars with outdated materials or technology tend to be the popular ones making good power. People say pushrods are outdated but the LS motors seem to be doing well over all.

Last I checked RX-7's, S2000's hold price nicely even the Eclipse can fetch a decent amount for what it is. The engines design is outdated, everything else is up to date. Compare and 350 small block to an LS1, big difference in here being pushrod and having the same cubic size is all they have in common. Now weigh and LS1 and weight something like a Nissan KA or SR20, guess which one is lighter...

The only thing rare about is finding one that hasn't been modified. Never said the RX-7 and S2000 cost same price as the Supra, I said they hold price nicely. 2nd Gen Eclipse was 20k new and sells for about 5-8k, pretty damn good for a comp. Cast iron is stronger but also heavier than aluminum, what is your point? And so not worshiping it makes me a hater?
@SpikeRazzor As far as selling, Look on Supraforums and see how many are selling for the prices people are asking for them. Even in a crappy market to buy cars, people are getting what they are asking for on their cars. The Supra isn't held in high regards just for what you are saying but due to their versatility, and the robust nature of the motor and drivetrain.

@MrAristes How is the cobalt SS thousands cheaper than a Mazdaspeed 3? I own an MS3 and looked at the Turbo SS when it came out and the price difference is only $1000 bucks. As far as performance they are equal on many performance categories except for braking, and handling. 1/4 mile times and traps are identical when the cobalt doesn't use the NLS feature. You are right for the most part on the NA-T cars but guys who want to build a drag car or road racing car love the N/A Supra chassis.
@kageryu311 Mazdaspeed 3 on lot when I was looking was $26,700, two door SS sans spoiler was $24,350. Motor Trend says $24,765 as tested for 4 door SS and $27,075. By my recollection and MT's testing MS3 is two grand more. I won't tell you what I ended up getting, suffice to say it was not performance oriented and has DVD for the kids. Now we're on the same page. Just like F-body cars, people buy the cheaper NA chassis and do what they want to with it. Peace!

They both had spray. But it goes down to the tuning. A stock svt will punish a stock supra. So obviously the guy had some better things under the hood to smoke the cobra. That supra hit at least 180 while the cobra 160.

@rolliepollie94 It probably sounded like it had less turbo lag because they were already at speed. With the way that Supra is pulling on the Cobra and not to mention the flame it shoots out, my best guess is a single T77, and that turbo whine to me sounds like a 50mm wastegate.
@KilaByte33 the 2.3l engine was actually made by the ford european division. Originally called the ford pinto engine. It was introduced with a turbo in 1979 in the indianapolis 500 pacecar. It was then put in the svo mustang and the thunderbird turbocoupe. It's a tough little engine! Example: 700+ hp 9.25sec svo mustang! Search it!

@M3TurboE46 Ok, let me break this down for you. If you have a 3.0L I6 and a 4.6L V8 both pushing 14 psi, the larger 4.6L will make more power. I'm not arguing that the turbo won't double the volumetric efficiency, I'm stating that there is literally no replacement for displacement.

@girtler87 Hmmm nice I have never worked on top fuel dragsters....We had a trailer with ramps inside, when on the ramp's I would start from underneath removing the oil pan, while my father, grand father, and or uncle's would be removing the the carb intake manifold, and heads from the old 427 L68 when everything was removed I would use an old broken broom stick and rubber mallet to bang the pistons out....Those were the days!

@202WRX Not true, stock Supras are usually twin turbo to virtually eliminate any turbo lag. Most tuners upgrade to a single turbo for larger HP gains. That said, I think the Cobra would still win, but it would be far from rape. It would probably only win by about a car length if you look at the HP/weight ratio.
@girtler87 I meant that big power supras, a stock supra only makes 320hp, compared to the extremely underrated 390hp the cobra is rated at, to show how underrated, i dynoed 388rwhp with an exhaust and intake only
@202WRX Supras are fairly underrated themselves. They are severly detuned from the factory for insurance reasons, and with a simple ECU reprogram (probably would cost the same as your intake/exhaust upgrade) I've seen a Supra dyno in the 420rwhp range. The beauty of the Cobra though is that there's so much more that can be done to it for cheaper to get larger HP gains.

@qazwas2001 well my friend has a scion tc. worth about 5k now. hes going to boost it and have it at around 300whp. he will have the same power to weight ratio of the new challanger. his turbo kit with installation will cost 3500. so 8500 and it will be just as fast as the srt8 challanger for about 25,000 less. so which one is the better platform?

Dont flame me, but I kinda think Supras can be underrated at times, like many built-to-go-fast imports. (That is outside of the F&F crowd, mind you)
With so many of us Americans including the 12 dislikes still calling it "RICE" just because it's Japanese and doesn't have a V8.

They're are plenty of amazing videos of both the Supra and the Cobra! Very outstanding cars! I am very thankful for the variety of different cars we have today as far as performance and even as daily drivers. Instead of fighting and bickering about which car is "better", be grateful that we have these varieties and that we aren't stuck with just one type of car! Wouldn't be much fun if that were the case. @silvertip69 1500 rpm power band? Anti lag builds boost off the line so the car wouldn't stay at 1500 rpm obviously. It would launch off 3000 rpm or 4000 depending on the traction. Anti lag keeps the engine in a higher power band & builds boost at the same time. So when the car launches theres no turbo lag & there for the engine can reach its max power band faster. So your statement of 1500 rpm is stupid & honestly your the one that seems to not know shit.

You can bore out the cylinders to get faster spool, and its more like 200hp to about 4k when boost kicks in because you obviously must think when boost kicks in you are at full boost, his hp will start to skyrocket as soon as he hits what 15psi-30/40psi... from the line he is going to launch at something like 3-4k rpm and thats still only 2-3k rpm for that "boom 800hp"

People ramble on about the 2JZ and technology and that but whats funny is the motor is cast iron, an old as fuck outdated material used to make engine blocks and these kids had the nerve to call V8's heavy when the 2JZ with trans is over 700lbs for fucks sakes.

How about figure the other things that make it worth its price used. Also cars with outdated materials or technology tend to be the popular ones making good power. People say pushrods are outdated but the LS motors seem to be doing well over all.

@kageryu311 Wow is that a real question? Dude nothing about this car justifies its insane price. Last I checked RX-7's, S2000's hold price nicely even the Eclipse can fetch a decent amount for what it is. The engines design is outdated, everything else is up to date. Compare and 350 small block to an LS1, big difference in here being pushrod and having the same cubic size is all they have in common. Now weigh and LS1 and weight something like a Nissan KA or SR20, guess which one is lighter...

Don't make me laugh. 2nd Gen DSM's like in the movie are going for pennies. The engine design is outstanding and effective. Of all the LS motor designs the only one that can hold large amounts of power on the stock bottom end are the iron LQ9 and LQ4 blocks. Like I said before you are just a hater.

@kageryu311 Supra's aren't rare, don't kid yourself especially with a price of 20k low with 100km or more, they aren't gonna exactly selling. The only thing rare about is finding one that hasn't been modified. Never said the RX-7 and S2000 cost same price as the Supra, I said they hold price nicely. 2nd Gen Eclipse was 20k new and sells for about 5-8k, pretty damn good for a comp. Cast iron is stronger but also heavier than aluminum, what is your point? And so not worshiping it makes me a hater?

@SpikeRazzor As far as selling, Look on Supraforums and see how many are selling for the prices people are asking for them. Even in a crappy market to buy cars, people are getting what they are asking for on their cars. The Supra isn't held in high regards just for what you are saying but due to their versatility, and the robust nature of the motor and drivetrain.
And no I'm not calling you a hater because you aren't worshipping it but you are posting untrue assumptions about the platform.

Its never been in a movie like the fast and the furious but holds almost similar value to the Supra. The Supra holds value becaue its still held to high regard. Supras aren't junk cars. People think just because a car is Japanese that it should be sold for dirt cheap but that is not the case. Its an outstanding car that still holds its own today.

@kageryu311 Mustangs have a larger following than the Supra, there are more parts for this one specific car than any other car on the planet. Also the highest the Cobra goes for is the lowest the Supra sells for, big difference here. The Supra is held in high regard because for a long time this was Japans best and we could get them locally in LHD. Oh and those 2000HP cars are likely one shot runners that need rebuilds afterwards, and once you're in 1000HP not one part of that engine is Toyota...

The Ecotec and LS engines with S/C or Turbo are no joke. Again, no one bothers with the N/A 2JZ. Why? 3.0 N/A in 3300 lb car = SUCK. 5.7 LS1 in same weight car = WIN

People do NA-T because of the higher Torque gains from the GE motor over the GTE from the higher compression ratio. Iwouldn't say the 2JZ GE = suck. Now the Ecotec has nothing on the 2JZ motors at all, hell the ecotec doesn't have anything over any Japanese 4 or 6.Yeah it made 1000rwhp before but so did the 4G63 10 year ago! Don't hate on the 2JZ because its reputable for a reason.

Just showing that GM has made two good engines. How good is Ecotec? How about GM performance parts backed by a warranty? How about trapping over 100 MPH stock in the quarter for Cobalt SS? @MrAristes How is the cobalt SS thousands cheaper than a Mazdaspeed 3? I own an MS3 and looked at the Turbo SS when it came out and the price difference is only $1000 bucks. As far as performance they are equal on many performance categories except for braking, and handling. 1/4 mile times and traps are identical when the cobalt doesn't use the NLS feature. You are right for the most part on the NA-T cars but guys who want to build a drag car or road racing car love the N/A Supra chassis.

@kageryu311 Mazdaspeed 3 on lot when I was looking was $26,700, two door SS sans spoiler was $24,350. Motor Trend says $24,765 as tested for 4 door SS and $27,075. By my recollection and MT's testing MS3 is two grand more. I won't tell you what I ended up getting, suffice to say it was not performance oriented and has DVD for the kids. Now we're on the same page. Just like F-body cars, people buy the cheaper NA chassis and do what they want to with it. Peace!

It was then put in the svo mustang and the thunderbird turbocoupe. It's a tough little engine! Example: 700+ hp 9.25sec svo mustang! Search it!

It cost alot of money to make a supra 800 plus HP.. I own a 2003 cobra .. It is easy and alot cheaper to mod up than a supra is.. I still love the supra over any other car to this day.. And I will own one soon..

Also, if you were the one doing the piston rings, who was the one removing the piston from the block? Let alone the engine from the car?

@girtler87 Hmmm nice I have never worked on top fuel dragsters....We had a trailer with ramps inside, when on the ramp's I would start from underneath removing the oil pan, while my father, grand father, and or uncle's would be removing the the carb intake manifold, and heads from the old 427 L68 when everything was removed I would use an old broken broom stick and rubber mallet to bang the pistons out....Those were the days!

@202WRX Not true, stock Supras are usually twin turbo to virtually eliminate any turbo lag. Most tuners upgrade to a single turbo for larger HP gains. That said, I think the Cobra would still win, but it would be far from rape. It would probably only win by about a car length if you look at the HP/weight ratio.

@girtler87 I meant that big power supras, a stock supra only makes 320hp, compared to the extremely underrated 390hp the cobra is rated at, to show how underrated, i dynoed 388rwhp with an exhaust and intake only

@202WRX Supras are fairly underrated themselves. They are severly detuned from the factory for insurance reasons, and with a simple ECU reprogram (probably would cost the same as your intake/exhaust upgrade) I've seen a Supra dyno in the 420rwhp range. The beauty of the Cobra though is that there's so much more that can be done to it for cheaper to get larger HP gains.

@qazwas2001 why? run what you brung. "stock for stock" is pretty much saying "hey you built a better car then mine, however mine is faster than yours is stock so i win based on the fact that you are a better tuner than i am" doesnt make much sense now does it...

@blazelmtdedtn being "a better tuner" comes down to how much you invested to get what result. Obviously a $100k investment will beat a $40k investment.

@qazwas2001 well my friend has a scion tc. worth about 5k now. hes going to boost it and have it at around 300whp. he will have the same power to weight ratio of the new challanger. his turbo kit with installation will cost 3500. so 8500 and it will be just as fast as the srt8 challanger for about 25,000 less. so which one is the better platform?
