  • I started listening to these guys when I was just 6 and that was some 40 donkey years ago. Roger and Pete two of the greatest rockers that have graced our music scene all these years. Pete is a guitar God. Would sell my soul to the devil just to shake hands with them. Fuck the current music scene.

  • please, someone tell/show me how to play this? like in this version.. it's beautiful.

  • pure magic!!! i think that was the point, Pete and Roger got together again..

  • This is my hands down favorite song from these guys. And is in my top ten favorite songs.

  • One of the best Who songs, I cry every time I hear it...the way songs should move you.

  • I saw somewhere that this was the song that pushed Pete to write more and create a new album. That was EndlessWire. Please tour again even as a acoustic act in small venues. No strain on the pipes for Rog and good for the ears on Pete. Long Live the Who

  • Other than my sons and grandson, and well my sweet husband who died 8 weeks ago... these are my two favorite men on earth.... Amazing! Roger looks and sounds fantastic....

  • such a great tune

  • 3 Real Ugly Looking Boys watched this

  • @WillBaxterMusic Greatest comment ever

  • I know everyone has their opinion but who the hell could dislike this? I see three. What the hell kind of person could dislike this performance.

Roger and Pete are phuckin awesome.

I hope you dont die before you get old.

  • JUST PURE AND UTTER CLASS :)

  • These guys never got old nor will they ever get old, no matter how long they live.

  • I have always loved the who but this song moved me to cry !!!!

  • One proud Mr. Townshend at 3:13. The girl who is this to me just left the building. But she will be back.

  • damn, thats amazing.thanks pete and thank you roger

  • This is the "I didn't die before I got old" version.

  • i saw them in newcastle when i was 15 in 1981 - still an honour to have been a witness & all my friends who've 'made the journey' will be playing this in heaven tonight. see you up there guys. xx

  • mindblowing....

  • winderful intergration of cant help fallin inlove!!!

  • I am a Who fan for over 30 years. And this version of this song performed at this time of their career might be one of the most poignant moments Pete and Roger EVER had! Pete is "the brain" of the Who. He is the soul of the band. But without Roger fronting the songs, conveying them as if he wrote them, they don't have the power that Pete intended them to have. This shows that right here! Unbelievable moment!!

  • Beautiful song and had the absolute pleasure of seeing Roger play this in Glasgow last week. Legend.

  • @DavidTransformer i also had that plesure, it was something special

  • THE WHO simply put pure talent!

  • fantastic song and love petes nod of approval at 0.47

  • Roger is still so handsome. This song always makes me tear up, it's so beautiful.

  • Pure Magic!!! beautiful song and wonderfully performed by Roger

  • this made me cry

  • The dynamic between these 2 guys is amazing, imagine how pete is feeling watching roger sing his song. Pete looks like the proud older brother watching his little bro come in to his own.

  • I love watching him play guitar. I love hearing him sing. I love anything this man does. I know it sounds silly, but I am truly in love with him.

  • I love watching him play guitar. I love hearing him sing. I love anything this man does.

  • whats up way the veiws??? a great band an what a song

  • @markallan1963 it's from a dox about the who called an amazing journey: Six quick ones. I know for sure you can find it on netflix, that's where I've seen it before

  • Love it. I love pete's version but this is great!!!!

  • Such a great song ;)

  • These guys mean so much to me. I'm only 17, yet the Who is a part of my life. One of the most important parts. It's like my religion, I don't know what I'd do wihout them. I'm a Wholigan through and through :)

  • @BoristheOxman

Hey, I know exactly how you feel! I was 14 in Valdez AK during pipeline days. No phone, tv, raidio station- so ordered every Who album I could... they kept me sane and helped formed my life. I mourned Keith and John like they were family. I am now 50, and these guys mean more to me than anyone can realize. Except my family - they bought me flowers when John died. And I know they will be there for me in the future... I just can't think about it, much less say it...

  • omg

  • I think Pete & Rog should go into the studio with a couple acoustic guitars and make the final Who record, with Zak & Pino on maybe the final three or four. Acoustic Who sounds really nice.

  • Just perfect. The respect between Daltrey and Townsend is so apparent here, they don't make them like they used to and maybe that is a good thing. You just cannot better this kind of perfection

  • Daltrey @ his absolute best

  • Daltrey is the best

  • nearly passed this, I was born on the who, (this is special)

  • après tant d'années de star system, qu'elle simplicité, qu'elle sincérité, l'émotion à l'état pur. Bravo d'être resté des hommes avant tout. jean no le gall

  • Roger looked like he was having so much fun!! I love that!! <3

  • This is amazing

  • I can't watch this enough. An amazing song and Roger just owns it. Great shots of Pete watching over Roger as he makes Pete's song his own. I watched the making of the song on the DVD "Amazing Journey." I haven't seen The Who live since 1989 but they still get it done like no other.

  • wonferful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey, Who: release the acoustic for purchase! Friggin' amazing!

  • easily the BEST Who song around

  • i had the privilage of being at the swansea gig a couple of years ago im only 20 now and they were just wow and i dont like this type of music but i love the who!!! i feel proud after the play nyc la australia they played what they said was the best gig they played EVER... and it was in SWANSEA!!!

  • Beautiful.

Long live The Who, we are the mods,

  • Beautiful!

  • Roger Daltrey rules. I love these guys.

  • wow roger is such a great singer he puts such power and emotion into this song its stunning

  • @kerrycuffe1 Like he's whispering sweet nothings to you while holding you in his wonderful arms!!!

  • Only Roger Daltry could make the word "fuck" sound beautiful

  • @aguilanthony Yup!

  • That's absolutely beautiful...

  • Sorry, but I can't stand Roger's guitar playing. It's the worse kind of folksly, half-assed approach.

His voice is in good form here, though.

  • @EuchridEucrow1 Im sure you could do better right?

  • one of my favorite songs. and i love the accoustic version. roger <3

  • this is the best version of this song!!!

  • Proud Pete at 3:58+

  • How I do so think of a man marginalized by everyone he ever knew. And then finally finds the love of his life in the form of his daughter, spurring her confidence on.

  • What a beautiful song between 2 old friends. Another testament to Townshend's genius. Yes, it is about Pete and the way he felt about his looks growing up. Pete wouldn't be Pete if he looked any other way. Why can't they have eternal life? RIP John & Keith.

  • the lyrics are killer! So true and sad.

  • ive only seen roger daltry and he was amazing and iam only 14 iam a lucky fuck

  • @john73a You are that! I'm glad the younger generation appreciates the Who. After all these years they still kick ass and move the soul both

  • @john73a You better you bet you are! I've loved Roger since I was only 13, yet I never saw him in concert until 2002...and met him in 2008!

  • awesome

  • Saw the Who when they came to NZ last year. They didn't play this (which was a shame) but it was just so superb. Love that these old men can still put out a song like this and play with passion and skill. One of my faves. Thanks for posting.

  • Genial!!!

  • a magic and wonderful moment between Pete & Rog..fantastic...love that version...

  • Pete's grinning from ear-to-ear as he listens and really savors Roger's performance. Roger's voice is something else and he puts his deep feelings into it.

  • @towser06 Hiya towser-- alabhaois here

It is a magic moment, isn't it??

    Very special

  • @towser06 Agree. It really is. And you can see Pete is so touched by the way Roger sings it.

  • im in love with this version. and Roger <3 ugh, its painful to watch this cuz i wasnt there!

  • amazing song, simply fantastic

  • it's nice for rodger to be playing gutair for a change eh

  • I think Pete said it's about him AND Roger - how Roger wanted to be Elvis, but also how Pete always wished he had Roger's looks. Either way, brilliant song and brilliant performance!

  • I thought it was a tribute to Elvis.

  • @MoonyMetamorph Petey's gorgeous in his own unique way. His beauty and Roger's beauty are just different, yet beautiful!

  • This is wonderful, but even the word "wonderful" doesn't seem like it's enough.

  • @captainadam1 Characteristic English understatement.

  • "lucky fucks and angels" brilliant

  • I think Daltrey was the Elvis fan, and he's the one who said the song is about Elvis.

  • it was townshend, and he wrote it. watch the documentary "six quick ones". actually, the whole box set is inspiring.

  • Beautiful song. Obviously about Townsend as a child looking at a young Elvis Presley and comparing himself to him...then the inevitable realization he's "an ugly boy". So sad.

  • My humble opinion is that as a child everybody sees in the mirror as a the beauty confident human being that you are. Until the world takes charge of filling you with fears, pretend models of beauty and conduct and how the things are "supposed" to be. Finally your inner child reacts with confidence and trust in yourself, in your real soul beauty. BECAUSE GOD GAVE ME YOUR SWEET, SWEET, SWEET LOVE.

  • To me this song tells of a kid who was always awkward and unsure of himself. But then one day that kid comes to the realization that he(or she) really isn't all that bad of a person and then faces the world with a new sense of god given confidence.

  • Pete Townsend is first and foremost one of rock's greatest poets. Roger Daltrey himself is a genius in how he breathes life into Pete's songs.

  • in the documentary pete townshend said that this was a moment that he remembers realizing how amazing roger was, cause he said that when they started all he did was sing, because he didn't write or play anything. But he became so important to the image of the band.

  • wow,è profondo quello che ha detto pete.

  • @powderkeg411 What Pete actually said is that it was during a performance of this song that he realized that he could actually go back to the studio with Roger and record music as The Who. Before that, he thought that "The Who" didn't really have any more to offer, but it was how powerfully Roger interpreted this song that convinced him that he could write an album of folk-like music and Roger would interpret and deliver like he did with this song.

  • @powderkeg411 Could you post a link to that interview

  • "Now I know how so called beauty lies"

That is one of the greatest lyrics ever. Roger Daltrey blows y mind eery time I hear this song. He's the ony man I have ever heard who can sing the word fuck and make it sound beautiful.

  • uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time, beautiful, goosebumps all over.

  • Absolutely beautiful, stunning, emotional acoustic version by the fabulous Daltry and Townsend. Just as good, albeit different, than the fantastic recorded cut on Then & Now. Also shows musical intelligence and depth of feeling, as well as the visible emotional bond of two musicians working together for over 40 years. Don't miss the entire Amazing Journey... DVD.

  • This is stunning. Amazing.

  • Has similar qualities to No woman no cry by Bob Marley. Great song.

  • After reading the many responses to this timeless song I must add that, to me, this song represents youthful innocence - that all too fleeting time in life when we dream and believe we can be anything we want to be.

But this song goes a bit further than that - it also represents the affirmation of a long and heartfelt friendship between two wonderful human beings who happen to be phenomenal musicians. It is no accident that this song is so reminiscent of the great Who classics.

  • awesome!!!

  • What an incredible song, and so incredibly well sung by Roger. Brought me to tears when I first heard it last year. Very powerful.

  • This is such a great song and his voice only gets better with age.

  • i love this version....almost moves me to tears!

  • Have you listened to Tea & Theatre? That will really move you to tears... check it out.

  • wow!

  • Great version and great song.Hopefully they continue to make great songs!!!!!!!!

  • a very very sexy voice

  • OMG! Love to see this version again. He's such a real good looking boy.

Thank you very much for posting.

  • thanks I've looked everywhere for this version...i love this song so much
