I know I'm probably gonna get it but doesn't Jarvis cocker remind you a bit of a cross between John Lenon and David Bowie? You're still cool Jarvis and your music is still really good!
No way! Jarvis cocker sings infinitely better than Conan O'brian. Besides, Jarvis Cocker came out with an imortal single, 'Common People'. Almost as timeless as say, 'waterfall' from the Stone Roses.
God this song is pure Nostalgia I love it and hate it for the memories. Wonderful vid too, makes me go a bit cross-eyed. and the ending is quite funny sounds like Chewbacca upchucking. Wow blathered on.... five stars!
im only 17 atm which would have made me not even one when pulp started to become recognised as the best band in the world, but im into all the britpop stuff as yall named up there such as pulp sude blur oasis and msp long live britpop!
wait a second...since when is "screw him" swearing? i can't believe that's censored. or was it considered too hot that jarvis cocker was singing the word "screw"? o.k., now that i can understand censoring.
ur spot on fella! im 25 and i grew up with Britpop. Most kids oday havnt heard of these bands let alone the songs. Razorlight & Kings of Leon, arn't a patch on Oasis, Supergrass, Blur, Suede, Manic Street Preachers, Ash, Dodgy, Ocean Colour Scene etc! Britpop forever 94-97......
i think you're forgetting that you can still fully appreciate a band, even if you were only about 5 when they hit the big time. all of my favourite bands were at their best either before i was born or when i was just a tot... but aye.. pulp are unreal. jarvis cocker is indescribable
Yes it was very interesting shooting the video, a lot of hanging around though. My brother and his girlfriend slept in his bed once. Obviously not with him in it though ha! ha!
i thought id never get into one of these horrendous youtube arguments....i love music...i dont want to argue over it...i have my opinion, you have yours...we're both right! needless to say Pulp are an amazing band.
kk your bang on, ive a soft spot for city anyway (well if that what the mc stands for anyway) save our argument txt for the americans cos they never fail to bite !!
no pulps from sheff, however 1 of my fave bands are (were) the housemartins and the beautiful south who are from hull i think paul heaton who went to king edward the 7th school in sheff aswell !!!
kid?.....well, Im pretty sure that Manchester/Liverpool/London are all regarded as iconic musical cities....i know sheffield is not. two good bands doesnt make up for the other half decent stuff.....kid. And as for New Order being human league rip offs...hilarious.
Hi, I'm on the bit (3:00/3:51)long dark hair and jeans sat next to the young lad! I know Jarvis a bit, he's friends with my brother, he's actually very nice to talk to, a sound bloke!!!
sorry and yes i am a bit biased but sheffield bands are the best by a mile, the manchester area comes second, dunno and dont care who comes after that !!!
ha ha ha ya havin a laugh kid leppard are known worldwide and sold more than all o them knobs put together even tho theyre shite, stone roses 1 good album, joy division 1 depressing single, new order human league rip offs, oasis not known out of uk and get ko'd by eyeties lol, arctic monkeys piss all over those anyways kid - you're funny !
ok i respect his talent, but hes still a knob who sold out to the usa same as elliot, rick savage ive got time for but the others are shit musically (well they all are)
Don't lose hope! Music still is 'good'; it's just that you don't find the stuff with substance in the charts anymore- you actually have to go looking for it. But I assure you- there is hope haha. Anyway, even on my first listen I can tell why this song is so great
I concure. moew moew snort purr tweek tweek roar roar, there allways allways something when you get older and i think i heard it all before there is somehting that will grab you and i never thought i would feel like this again a song i can`t stop listening to,its great to be alive.
Great Song by a great band. Loved it from the first time I heard it 14 yrs ago. Can't believe it only got to no.33, what an injustice! Pulp are so under-rated. Jarvis is a genius. Thanks for putting this on here, and for making it so loud!
i love the way this singer's lyrics come straight from the hip; with passion; I love unabashed openness about feelings; not hiding them cos then pple miss out on love
Jarvis is so brilliantly dorky that he's become incredibly cool. Also his lyrics aren't all "ooh baby yeah" , they actually tell a story or a social comment.
a place we all find ourselves in at one point in time or another; the place of searching for the past cos the current day is scarier than we expected...home is both where you've already been and the place you longed to discover out there away from "home" ... home is in your heart; your hopes & dreams spawned from the past to lead yourself & others to the future; always changing; yet always returning to the same
Jarvis is a fantastic lyricist (writer of the words in songs lol).....some of their early stuff imo was even better lyric wise although the music did get better and thus appealed more to the masses....PULP were always underrated I think
does n.e. one know who the lyricist for pulp? they want a statue erecting in their honour,.and i dont think he's weird looking,.i'm straight but i'd shag him also,, thats a joke....
If Jarvis Cocker was a women i'd shag him....well maybe not he's a little weird looking. But i would shake his hand and tell him that he's a musical genius!
This song reminds me of a chick I used to see called Alana, I spent a mad summer with her then she moved away. The last I heard of her she was living in a tree house with a hippy in Galloway.
I dont care if you 'knew' him! What the fuck!!! i dont remember it being censored at the time!! Although it was the 90's, i dont remember a lot of things from then!!!! Ahhh happy days!!! pre credit crunch!!!
I agree that the song doesn't have the same impact without the 'screw him' line. Still, this is excellent music people. This is what pop music SHOULD sound like, not the shit we hear from America these days.
gahhh the knew him/screw him line is annoying, cos in this version the song doesn't have the same vibe/roughness as the harsh... "screw him". it just makes it sound weaker.
