  • thanks for this...wow

  • @natureswhey Thanks so much for taking the time to check out so much of my blues material. Much appreciated.

  • Hi dear Friend, I would like to see your show about the blues...You post a really good video about this old and eternal magic Music: "teh Blues"...

    Peace...

    Stephane.

  • @stephanegiovannelli Sometimes I still wish I was doing it.... thanks for the nice comment. I think the roots in the blues and in classical music are pretty much all of what makes modern popular music and jazz what they are today. Some body said blues is so simple it makes it hard to play. I have found that to be true.. until one is able to let go and use the ear. I wish I had learned this much earlier in life. Thanks again for your visit and comment Steph.

  • @MAFjournal Glad it "struck a chord" with you. Thanks.

  • I really enjoyed this historic overview, spiced with your humor, Lance! :-)

Many thanks to Kumhui for featuring this video today!

  • @robag71 My thanks to you and Kumhui as well.

  • Cool playing and the added background on blues history was fantastic. Great presentation.Enjoyed it all.

  • @Ajohn13 Thanks for dropping by and for the nice comment.

  • You play and sing with a lot of soul ! And master all the differents styles !

Watching this video was really a pure joy and inspirational ..

    Best regards

    Pascal

  • @martimax34 Oh my gosh Pascal. Such a nice thing to say. I take it to heart coming from such a good player as you. Haven't been over to visit you in a while. Will have to do that soon. Ciao for now... and thanks.

  • Lance, how you been? I know, I've been a complete stranger to just about everybody. Great playing, as always, and I love this program you put together about the Blues!

  • @klasek Wow Keith! It has been a long time. Glad you connected back up with me. Have written a lot of songs since we last collaborated. Check 'em out if you have time. Hope things are good in your world. Thanks for dropping by.

  • Great video on the story of the blues Lance..lot of work put into it,well done friend!

btw liked the strat and resonator!

  • @daviemcf Yeah I no longer own the strat. I now have an Epiphone Sheraton II that I love. The neck on the strat was too narrow for my fat fingers.

  • This is the best and the only educational and inspirational blues video I have ever seen. You really know your music!! I love your slide guitar also. And it's great to see that you included Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith and Big Mama Thornton. And I loved hearing you doing 'Come Together'.

Wow, I am absolutely in awe of you, Lance!!! Thank you. ~~Kumhui

  • @kumhuimusicgirl Wow! How could I not be friends with you? Thanks so much.

  • sounds great!

    Pepi

  • Good licks my friend!

  • @Fingerpickerdude Thank you Sir.

  • Hi Lance, nice story of the Blues. Lots of love and work in this video.

The only thing I really don´t like is to mention Germany, my country, with war pictures! Can´t see this anymore.

    Frank

  • @FrankRMusic Sorry about the war reference. I meant no offense. However, perhaps you missed something in the language. The song makes the point that things have changed for the better when "The French think we're arrogant and the Germans WON'T go to war." If anything, listening to our politicians, America is much more likely to go to war with anyone these days than the Germans are. I hope you understand that I meant this as a positive reflection on your country. But I do apologize for the image.

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ I ENJOY YOUR MUSIC!PURELY AWESOME!

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

  • @austinsplace1 Thanks so much. Pretty awesome looking comment style you've got there.

  • @carvetop01 Always enjoy a comment from a master.

  • Real cool Lance !! Love dem Blues !!

  • @ruotze Oh Yeah!

  • I think Panacea was that little slice of heaven somewhere between the Elysian Fields and Nirvana. ;-)

  • Hi Lance, thanks for sharing.........this video is informative and inspirational.

  • @bennettskb555 My pleasure Steve. It's great to have a player of your ability liking what I do. Thanks.

  • You are awesome Lance! I agree about the blues, how true my friend! Thanks for sharing all the interesting facts about the blues music too!! OOooo loving that slide action!!! That evening sun is wonderful as well...reminds me of John Fahey's tunes..This video is packed with so many terrific jams!!! You amaze me!! *****

  • @Cameragirl803 Thank you Jane. It's nice to have such friends as you on youtube. By the way, have I told you that in addition to your great voice you also have beautiful hair? Well, you do. I am thankful for video so I can associate faces (and hair) with names. Best to you Jane.

  • Wow, you are really good. I love the slide. Alternate tunnings....yes..fun stuff.

    Wish you the best

  • @geogreg27 Thanks a lot. Yep, alternate tunings are fun. I thinks the guitar is one of the most versatile instruments in the world.

  • Hey I Watched! Some Nice Story And You Play & Sing Something By Sweet Way! I'm Just Only A Guitar Player Who Sing And Play Feeling From My Soul And At The Moment Also Looking For Friends & Supporters To Make Some Music! I Don't Know Why There In Your Video Is Something About A Book Because I Think Nobody Want To Read Books But Yes I Know I'm Almost Very Alone Here And Like "Living Information Sharing"! Thank You For Doing Videos Here! I Give Thumbs Up! All The Best For Everybody! Feels By Assa!

  • @DirtyAssa Thanks for the visit and in depth comment. Hope you fulfill your dream of having a band. Ciao!

  • Nicely done video, Lance! I really enjoyed watching this. Historic as well as entertaining. Nice feel to those phrases you did on the strat! You made that puppy talk.

    MV

  • @MisterVirtual Thanks MV - I love it when a player of your caliber likes what I do.

  • lance.....i did like it

    jd

  • @phoenixdoubledeuce Very cool you did. Thanks for saying so.

  • Like it Lance! But then again, I'm a hopeless blues junkie always clucking for another fix, even if just a little spoonful..

  • @kokoro86 Spoken like a true blues junkie. Thanks for dropping by again.

  • What would the world be without the Blues, the root of all good things and Evil (slavery). It's very important to know the history of the your inspiration. I'm also from the generation who grew up on the inspiration of the Blues, Hendrix,Beck,Clapton,Rory Gallagher, Page. Ofcourse the rock was in there too but the Blues was the basics. Love your tone on The thrill is gone (nice lows and mid in your tone, very soulful) Great video Lance and I think this is your total direction,Vic.

  • @Jazzguts - Funny, was just talking to my bass player/college music professor friend the other night and he said something similar. "Just go with your strengths". I think there is something in the blues as a foundation for sure. But I'm finding a lot of what I call "Tourist Blues" here in Chicago. So I'm pitching what I do as "The New Blues" in that it give a nod to tradition but my lyrics are influenced by songwriters Like L. Cohen, R. Newman. etc. Blues with something new to say. Thx Vic.

  • Hey Lance, this was just great man.....what a cool video to educate the uneducated.....I enjoyed the whole thing....really fascinating....

  • @PatrickGMoran Thanks so much Pat. It's long but people seem to be sticking with it.

  • Very very good Lance, thank you for sending it to me, nice ........PBO

  • @PeterBullOlsson My pleasure PBO. My pleasure.

  • Thank you for the share Lance--

    my multi talented friend...Love

    the steel guitar.You never cease

    to amaze me...HAppy Sunday...Polly

  • @luvperu1 Doin' the best I can with whatever I've been given. Thanks for the ongoing support Polly. My Sunday has been superb so far.

  • Beautiful !

  • @EdwinZiberg Thank you Sir.

  • Lance, this is a fine piece of work...and not only am I entertained but educated as well! I really appreciate all of those riffs.

  • @tps607 I find it hard to imagine I could tell you anything about music you didn't already know Tom. Appreciate your appreciation.

  • @archtopbrownie They have filled books with all that I don't know about it....I missed out at the same time I missed the "rich and famous" part....

  • Interesting, Lance, of all your videos this one has produced the highest percentage of lengthy comments.....seems most everyone has some connection with the blues. As you say, the blues know no boundaries of color or ethnicity and has a personal connection with us all. I guess if we lived in Panacea, no one would have the blues.....not sure that would be a good thing.

  • @bigbeninjax because we are all sad and lonely and very long-winded...lol

  • @tps607 LOL how true, how true.

  • @bigbeninjax - like tps607 says below. I appreciate your in depth comment Ben.... Panacea isn't that the big ancient continent that all the dinosaurs lived on?.... or maybe it's a town near Detroit... I can't remember.

  • thats great ! thanks !

  • great sound Lance : )

  • I wuz just thinking Lance, you should send this off to discovery channel, I think they might kust like to make a series outta this with you as anchor cos this has a very profesional & knowledable feel to it, I have not heard of hardly any of these souling singers, maybe it's time a tribute series is made before their names disappear for ever.I found it totally gripping, you are one entertaining anchor and commenter on this, You're is going into favs.& a playlist of the best of you tube.

  • @beachfrontal --Thank you David for sharing the

video of our brilliant-talented Lance..Love hearing

the background on the different blues styles...and

singers... Love the steel guitar...my multitalented friend....Hugs Polly

  • @beachfrontal --Hi David - I totally agree with your

    comment...Hugs Polly....

    Happy Sunday...

  • @beachfrontal Wow David, thanks so much. Two things, one - I'm so jaded I don't think you can get anywhere in show business unless you know somebody that knows somebody with a lot of money and pull. And two - I'm probably at an age now that life is so full and at the same time challenging that a large project would be too much for me to handle with the other demands on my time. But thanks anyway. Nice to know I have the potential even though I probably won't act on it.

  • Hey Lance, I Really Wish I Can Sing & Playing The Blues On The Guitar Like You Do, My Very Talented Friend!! Then I Will Be Big & Famous Just Like You Are, Bro!! Lol!! Stay Blessed & Keep Those Awesome Blues Of Yours Right On A Comin', My Very Talented Friend!! Blues On, Bro!!

    - Big Will / The Super Blues Universe

  • I love the blues. Good effort Lance. You put your own brand of mustard on the story. I feel blessed that I was able to see some of those legends perform in my youth while they were still active. And the young whites guys performing old blues songs were, for me, an introduction to a world I might otherwise have missed i.e. "Love in Vain". Now, if we could just stuff all of the politicians into the Space shuttle and ship them all off to Mars the world might really change for the better ;-)

    Aloha,

    T

  • @kiaweking Maybe they're already on Mars..... but if not, I agree. Maybe Alpha Centari would be better. Thanks for the great comment. Much appreciated.

  • @archtopbrownie I was attempting to come from a compassionate perspective. I think originally R. Buckminster Fuller had suggested the sun as an appropriate destination for politicians. You have certainly done your homework on blues history. I'd guess that, like me, you enjoyed the movie "Oh brother Where Art Thou"?

  • @kiaweking Oh yeah. Some great music and I loved the acting... funny and a real period piece. Love it when a movie takes me to another place and time.

  • really enjoyed this Lance. ur voice on ive been changed sounded like you were in the mississippi delta 100 years ago, excellent. and that dobro sounded like it was being played by Robert Johnson or Skip James. great tale and walk thru history of the blues. strat sounds great too. Chicago must be a great place to live for a blues fan. the influence of blues is just so undeniable, from summertime to the stones and right up to today. Big bass line playin thumbs up. Gavin,

  • @zneella and yes things have changed in a very very cool way, great writing dude.

  • @zneella Hey Gavin - Can see you went all the way to the end and that ain't necessarily easy with a video that's almost 15 minutes long. Your in depth comment was just great to read. Thanks a lot.

  • Fascinating video, Lance. Also great music!! This history lesson has melody and soul. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

  • @suuzzee5 Glad you liked it Suze. I know it is rather long so thanks for giving a listen.

  • cool stuff, Lance. Well done. I'm gonna show this to Mikayla.

  • @dmio2 I appreciate that. Show it to whomever will listen.

  • Really like 'the thing's have changed' archie, is that of yer own? And many thanks for sharing your knowledge on the history, mine's broken but im trying to piece together despite the objections thanks again and i look forward to hearing much more.:)

Btw your one cool cat dont let anyone tell u different.

  • @urquiza78 It helps to have someone as tuned in as you are to Robert Johnson and the like thinking I'm "one cool cat". I appreciate that. I'm gettin' a little long in the tooth but hey, in my head I'm 25. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

  • @urquiza78 I'm sorry to say that only the two verses about eminem and Tiger Woods and the French and the Germans are mine. The rest I got from Anson Funderburg - you may not have heard of them but they are a very solid traditional blues band. For myself, I like to think .... in my original material... I am offering what I call "New Blues". I'm influenced by everyone from Tom Waits to Randy Newman, Leonard Cohen to Steve Earle. I like the blues but I like for the lyric to have something to say.

  • Very cool. Your voice on the "I've been changed" tune at 3:00 was phenominal.

  • @Oswlek Thanks for the nice long listen and the compliment on the voice.
