The issue everyone keeps neglecting is that Steve Phillips was already suspended by the Mets when he was their general manager for allegations of sexual harassment and for having an affair with a coworker. He was already on a short leash at ESPN to begin with. He is an idiot for doing it again. Didn't he learn his lesson the first time? I think he put himself in a no win situation and ESPN had to fire him because of his past issues.
this is the same bullshit as the Bill Clinton scandal...did Clinton having sex with a chick hinder him from doing his job? He was still a damn good president, and with him the US economy actually wasnt shit..It is a fact that JFK had sex with all sorts of women in the white house.. jeez. ya im sure steve phillips was the first anchor to have an affair. athletes cheat on their wifes all the time. as far as im concerned........THIS IS NON-NEWS
He got fired because he let the whole "Fatal Attraction" play out. If the whole stalking did not happen they would have not fired him. And another thing is that they want to save their ratings.
I disagree strongly. If they were cowokers that'd be one thing but an Employer and Employee is a BIG deal. Just a few episodes ago You guys talked about the Blockbuster manager who asked an employee to see her breast and how that was a horrible position 4 the girl bcuz in the eyes of authority people r fraid 2 say no. Well here you'e saying the opposite & that makes u a hypocite. Employers should never sleep with subordinates. It creates a hostile environment among ALL the workers.
If you are going to get fired from the best job in the world, couldn't he at least picked a hot woman to have sex with? That intern is an ugly dog. On the other hand, the woman anchor on this show is really hot despite sounding like an airhead.
I tend to think sexual harrassment law is in place so every employee knows their limits. Isn't it better to just to get rid of the general problem of employees having any contact with each other? It sends a message to everyone else that there is an obvious result for sexual conduct in the workplace. It is a done deal.
No but we4 should fire Obama, Bush Clinton and all the criminal cabal seeking to destroy the US in endles wars fostering conflict & blowing up innocent civilians (Iraq, Afghanistan Pakistan so as to turn the populace agaisnt the tribal chiefs ) while lotting our coffers to a tune of 50-60% of tax payer money to pay for this military campaign (This money could end the helathcare debate) & bring to college debt, loans etc...
Fire them all Its not a liberal or conservative debate!
I wonder if Ana has slept with any of the guys on the show. Or maybe Cenk has finger-banged someone behind the scenes. I'll leave the conspiracy theory's for Beck.
Well, I am a stoner (from time to time), and I am as always, learning new things each day, so technically speaking I'm in college every day, although not in the literal sense of the word' college'.
Millions of people use the word 'dude' everyday of their lives. Does this make them potential stoners? Nope.
Really, don't let slang justify my supposed intellectual ineptitude.
Having sex shouldn't be a punishable offense. If - and that's a big if - if the relationship falls through and it causes problems, then and only then should the issues be addressed. But the sex itself isn't the problem, though it may lead to problems. It's the problems that should be resolved, not the sex.
The reason that there are rules about this sort of thing, is because this kind of thing usually leads to trouble. Especially if the participants are already in realtionships, or crazy.
Probably. But I think it's those problems that should be addressed, not the sex.
It's like drugs. I think you should be allowed to do whatever you want with your own body. If that means shooting heroin into your eyeballs, fine. But if you rob a house to pay for your heroin addiction, you should be tried for the house robbing - but not the heroin.
Punishing employees for sex puts those who would not run into problems because of it at a disadvantage, despite the fact that they'd act responsibly.
Steve Phillips is basically a public figure who represents ESPN. So he and the rest of the ON CAMERA employees have a different set of rules then the behind the scenes employees. When you see the story the biggest word in the story is ESPN. THAT'S why he was fired. By shitting were he eats he has caused a mess that reflects negatively on the network. You cant have that. I love Steve Phillips but I knew he was toast as soon as I heard the story. And I agree with his termination.
I would like to fire ESPN from my cable but I cannot.. Cable costs a fortune largely because the cost of ESPN is so high that they have to make EVERYONE pay for it, even those who do want it. The right should take up this cause. They're stealing my money!
Sex in the workplace is something that no company can avoid. It happens. Alot. ALOT. I'm sure the majority of us are guilty of it. A boss could lose many valuable employees if all guilty parties were terminated.
the girl isn't that horribly ugly just a bad picture was used..theres another pic of a close-up of her face and she has some bunny ears on or something, and looks pretty good, i'd do her, just not if I was married and working above her in a company.
i saw that picture and would agree except i've also seen other pics of her where she looks horrible... i think you have it backwards... she looks bad, but the bunny ears was a good pic
they should only get fired if they had a sexual relationship on the job. outside office hours is a different story. And especially if they both consent then none should get fired
Of course you can get fired over that. I've seen enough bogus sexually harassment lawsuits to understand that.Women always trying to accuse someone of sexual harassment.
I know of a case in my previous job, where a Vice President had a very open affair with a secretary while being married with 3 kids, the secretary in her mid 20's began calling his house causing a divorce, he then continued to court the secretary, married her, the company paid for her education and then after her graduation promoted her to a high ranking job because she was now married to the VP of the company. Now that is really fucked up and unfair in my opinion. I quit that job. Gladly.
What annoys me most about this story, and for no reason, is that this guy has enough money floating around to go to rehab and therapy over something this minor. Now, as Cenk might say, "Does he have that kind of money sitting around? OF COOOOOOOURSE."
But I think I'm just bitter that I can't afford any kinda superfluous doctor visit.
It's publicity. The vast majority of jobs don't have this kind of a public face to damage. He was fired because you are talking about it not because of what he did.
Because the girl wasn't his boss when she slept with him. It's not about having sex, it's about corporations not wanting to set themselves up to be sued for sexual harassment.
Steve Phillips is going to score $50 million because of ESPNs inappropriate terminating of him.
ESPN totally crossed the line of appropriateness when they made the bullcrap press release that he is now deemed to not be capable of doing his job, BIG MISTAKE-- that's piling on and trying to ruin his career as a respected and knowledgeable baseball mind and analyst.

I say boycott the hell out of ESPN ( Time / Warner / AOL ), off with their f---ing heads.
I'm offended by being spoon-fed morality by these and other clowns.
The dude got poontang, enuf said, big deal, right...... NOT!
And enough with the "He should've kept his pants on" bull. Like most guys, his pants WERE on way too much to suit him. His undies were on and sweat pants in bed by order of his frigid wife for YEARS.

Yeah, Americans are crazy about firing employees for "moral" reasons. Good human resources practice realizes that these scandals blow over in the long run. Stupid people tend to watch an inordinate amount of "sports" - said stupid people also tend to be more judgmental/moralizing/religious than others, at least in the United States.
IOW. I'm willing to bet the demographics for ESPN are more "socially conservative" than perhaps some other programming.
The double standard here is, that women actually go for the power that these laws are supposed to protect them from. I would hope that contries less fucked than America, things would be judged a lot fairer though. This "i'm a women and therefore victim pr default" is so far out it's not even funny anymore.
Should they have fired Steve? I don't know. But if there were justice, the nutty bimbo should have had her ass canned for being a bitch. Cenk is right though.. They couln't afford to can her.
As an isolated incident, I don't think Steve Phillips should have been fired. But, I think it's a bigger problem that he also had one or more work-related affairs when he worked for the NY Mets, so it starts to look like a pattern....and ESPN would then be in *really* deep trouble for any future lawsuit if Phillips later sexually harasses somebody and ESPN had let him stick around, knowing his history.

Thank you TYT for another round of uninspired, uninformed, useless bullshit. The solicited commentary from the brother with the do-rag is a nice improvement, however.
it's not that he knows less about baseball it's about the image in the eyes of the public which means he represents ESPN and ESPN don't want to be associated with the stigma of the affair.. Bill'O the perv shoulda been fired
Christmasdnc, you get the award for the best myopic literal interpretation of a press release, and for the best use of Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends & Influencing People" strategies. You also get special mention for your gratuitous use of an ellipsis. I'm just saying... enjoy!!!
If you don't like TYT, why do you come here? Fox News might be a better fit. Your insights would probably do more good with that illiterate group of discontents.
I've been subscribed to TYT for more than a year, and on most points Cenk and/or the others are right on the money, however, this time the answer that they couldn't grasp was so obvious! ESPN is a family network, everyone knows that. And they even said it themselves, he can't represent them anymore. And last time I checked a literal interpretation is not a bad thing... you don't always have to read between the lines buddy
This just in, the award for the most heroic effort to resist drinking the TYT Kool-Aid goes to... ChristmasDNC. GOOD JOB MAN!
Now, if you're going to comment on reading comprehension, understand that language is complex; as such the astute reader will always look for alternative meanings. ESPN's release was subtle and left open to a broad interpretation.
Btw, Mr. Kool-Aid, I don't like it when my JUICE wears TIGHTS. I will kick you in the tights and you will go down. You're very top heavy!
dude, vick wasn't just given a second chance. he went to prison blah blah, and now he's pretending to be an activist. yeah, he's a ghetto asshole, but there are plenty of athletes who do just as bad shit--drug trafficking, spousal abuse, etc.
it's just the world we live in...full of assholes.
The irony here would be the absurdity of valuing the life of animals over another human being. Regardless of whether you enjoy dogs more than humans(seek help, seriously) or not, you cannot value it's life over a human.
Why not? Because an animal isn't as smart as a human? My dog is smarter than a human baby, so that reasoning goes right out the window. Is it simply because we must protect our own species over others? Why? Why don't you try and justify your own beliefs rather than attack others'?
Well, a dog can't perform open heart surgery. A dog didn't march and stage sit ins for Civil Rights. A dog didn't create a cure for polio. But apparently, you may be right. I'm sure a dog would have any sense not to argue with a lunatic that would value an animals' life over a human life. So you may have a point.
I'm gonna go electrocute and drown some babies, since their lives don't matter as much as much. And after that, i'll go burn a school full of retards, since their lives don't matter much either. Not as much as mine anyways.
Its really not about Vick or phillips. If Vick was a 4th string caliber or practice squad player he won't get another chance. And if Phillips was a superstar baseball analyst like say a howard cosell he'd would not have been fired.
NEVER dip your pen in the company ink. NOTHING good ever comes out of that. Trust me. BTW, you're a wuss if you have an affair with a woman who's unglier than your wife.
Uh, you may have missed the last 3 years, friend? Michael Vick was in prison. Lost multimillion's of dollars, lost his home. His mother lost her home, which I'm sure contained his countless relatives. He is going to be on probation the next 5 years AND cannot consume alcohol. So yea, perspective, get one.
Forget the Philips Story, I never heard about this O'Reily thing. The question is, are these tapes available and where can I can them? I could use a good laugh right now.
Cenk, you can't say that he shouldn't be fired because obviously there was more that happened behind the scenes that we don't know about. Probably a blow up of some kind on the job that was related to the affair.
come on, think about it. these are sports guys. they are jocks. they were probably frat guys. you know how frat guys are. think about how frat guys treat girls at your party. not saying there's necessarily anything wrong with it, but if there is a company that has a lot of people who come from that kind of environment... it's going to be a field day for sex harass suits.
he should be fired because he has had a history of attemping to be intimate with other women in the workplace, the women that work there may not feel safe if they are working with this pervert and allowing this repeat perv to stay working for espn would be not attending to the other womens needs who work there. I may be wrong but im sure there are more women that work there that know more about him than we do
Yea, but Dana Jacobson got herself into some controversy a couple years back and they didn't fire her. Another example, was Chris Carter when he said he would shoot Terrell Owens in the head, and yet he wasn't fired by BSPN.
For many times are tough right now. If you need to make some cash now here's how you can do it every time

There's no "Break" to give this guy, for he did nothing wrong.

Here's a theory on why buddy got fired...
Stupid people tend to watch an inordinate amount of "sports" - said stupid people also tend to be more judgmental/moralizing/religious than others, at least in the United States.
IOW. I'm willing to bet the demographics for ESPN are more "socially conservative" than perhaps some other programming.
Just a guess. :-)

Ana's laugh at the end is what they are talking about when women say that want a man who can make them laugh. That shit was sexy^^
HumanStrategy 2 years ago 2

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Thank you TYT for another round of uninspired, uninformed, useless bullshit.

I fell asleep watching young turks and ana and cenk were both in my dream.
Both of them remained clothed, unfortunately.

I don't think he should have been fired either. It's his own fucking business. I don't care what he does on his own time.
TillThenPlease 2 years ago
So everyone can read on TYT but no reading comprehension?
Ana: "ability to be an effective representative"
Cenk: "Really he knows less about baseball"
Definition of representative: A person who represents others
He was fired because ESPN does not want to be REPRESENTED by an ADULTERER
Who the fuck said anything about Baseball? I swear....
christmasdnc 2 years ago
Christmasdnc, you get the award for the best myopic literal interpretation of a press release, and for the best use of Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends & Influencing People" strategies. You also get special mention for your gratuitous use of an ellipsis. I'm just saying... enjoy!!!
If you don't like TYT, why do you come here? Fox News might be a better fit. Your insights would probably do more good with that illiterate group of discontents.
AllknowingGuitarGuru 2 years ago
I've been subscribed to TYT for more than a year, and on most points Cenk and/or the others are right on the money, however, this time the answer that they couldn't grasp was so obvious! ESPN is a family network, everyone knows that. And they even said it themselves, he can't represent them anymore. And last time I checked a literal interpretation is not a bad thing... you don't always have to read between the lines buddy
christmasdnc 2 years ago
This just in, the award for the most heroic effort to resist drinking the TYT Kool-Aid goes to... ChristmasDNC. GOOD JOB MAN!
Now, if you're going to comment on reading comprehension, understand that language is complex; as such the astute reader will always look for alternative meanings. ESPN's release was subtle and left open to a broad interpretation.
Btw, Mr. Kool-Aid, I don't like it when my JUICE wears TIGHTS. I will kick you in the tights and you will go down. You're very top heavy!

The irony here would be the absurdity of valuing the life of animals over another human being. Regardless of whether you enjoy dogs more than humans(seek help, seriously) or not, you cannot value it's life over a human.
sataalvarez 2 years ago
Why not? Because an animal isn't as smart as a human? My dog is smarter than a human baby, so that reasoning goes right out the window. Is it simply because we must protect our own species over others? Why? Why don't you try and justify your own beliefs rather than attack others'?
StewieSwan 2 years ago
Well, a dog can't perform open heart surgery. A dog didn't march and stage sit ins for Civil Rights. A dog didn't create a cure for polio. But apparently, you may be right. I'm sure a dog would have any sense not to argue with a lunatic that would value an animals' life over a human life. So you may have a point.
sataalvarez 2 years ago
I'm gonna go electrocute and drown some babies, since their lives don't matter as much as much. And after that, i'll go burn a school full of retards, since their lives don't matter much either. Not as much as mine anyways.

sataalvarez 2 years ago
Its really not about Vick or phillips. If Vick was a 4th string caliber or practice squad player he won't get another chance. And if Phillips was a superstar baseball analyst like say a howard cosell he'd would not have been fired.
Its all about your VALUE.

Uh, you may have missed the last 3 years, friend? Michael Vick was in prison. Lost multimillion's of dollars, lost his home. His mother lost her home, which I'm sure contained his countless relatives. He is going to be on probation the next 5 years AND cannot consume alcohol. So yea, perspective, get one.

come on, think about it. these are sports guys. they are jocks. they were probably frat guys. you know how frat guys are. think about how frat guys treat girls at your party. not saying there's necessarily anything wrong with it, but if there is a company that has a lot of people who come from that kind of environment... it's going to be a field day for sex harass suits.

I may be wrong but im sure there are more women that work there that know more about him than we do
