The whole tale within a tale thing in Dragon Age 2 also irritated me, I don't like games where the story is being told by someone else as you play it. They should take the best stuff in the 2 games and use that to make the next Dragon Age game.

Dragon Age 2 was good but it was way too limiting compared to Origins, and I didn't feel like I as Hawke was accomplishing anything nearly as important as my Warden did in Origins until maybe the very end. Combat's better, and I like that Hawke actually speaks, but a lot of other things are really limited. Origins had the nice campsite, where tlkin to companions was easy and convienient. In DA 2 u have to fuck about the map to find them. Great game, but not on par with this masterpiece.

The short answer is no, as they explain the past lore and some events that happend in Origins when you play DA2. But personally I think you would greatly benefit and probably enjoy the story a lot more if you had followed the events of Origins yourself.

They also give you the option to import your saved game from Origins into DA2, which will take into account the decisions you made along the way and they will effect the story and world in DA2.

@Amakiir7 Yeal he is the elven assassin you can choose to kill if you defeat him, but you can also let him join with you and he is also a romanceable character. I finished DA about 5 times so ive done about everything in there lol.
