  • Another unsung group -- pilots of Hueys, Caribou, 130s...some maniacs, but stellar...best piece of flying I ever experienced, monsoons 67, Huey flew sideways following a dry creek bed, wind howling, rain sideways, amazing cat, got us to ROK fob...in the Caribou, had a lot of turbulance, the dinks would get all upset, upchucking...they use to sniff the contents of these little green bottles..what days, what days.

  • Never never heard of a Caribou before ten minutes ago, this is an astonishingly capable aircraft.

Also, "That's right bitch, my plane has a reserve! 'Cause I'm Rick James!"

  • Did I just see the 'Bou reversing? Surely not!

  • The Clash sucks

  • Nice video - love the Caribou - a fine Canadian product :D

  • Nice music, nice video!

  • Love Caribou's, there's nothing that'll ever replace their awesomeness.

  • Beta props with no turboprop?!

  • Dreadful music ugh!

  • love sitting in the bou with the brakes on and the engines at full power. it feels like the plane is about to shake to pieces.

  • I didn'tknow the Caribou had reverse pitch

  • I wish the Bou was still being built, we need an aircraft like that here in Alaska. All the Bous are gone now, worn out or wrecked.

  • 11 seconds and its up. Amazing

  • Thank God for Canadian Built Aircraft!! :D

  • I for one like the music.

  • Caribous were all I saw, all day long, in 'Nam as I worked Airlift Control at Pleiku. Once a week I'd go with them on missions to Montagnard villages to deliver foodstuffs and bring back pax to Pleiku. Once I was asked if I'd like to take the controls while aloft; then the A/C left the cockpit with me alone. I looked back and asked if I could try a few turns, he replied "you can do Cuban 8's for all I care" But I didn't. The C-7 would deploy with 24k lbs Gross Weight out of Pleiku.

  • @blucenturion Salute to you Sir because you're actually a Viet Nam veteran . God Almighty . You must be as old as my dad now I presume . 64 years old . He too ias a vet but as a policeman attached to our country's Marine Police Unit doing riverine and coastal patrol during the Communist Insurgency years of the 1970-s . I did board a "Bou" in 1978 when I was still seven years old with my family . Flying to Miri from Kuching via Sibu in Sarawak Malaysia .

  • what a beaut plane!

  • Brought back memories of being a pax in and out of Lucombe Field but please ditch the disgusting music.

  • man you can land and take off with that thing in a Wal Mart parking lot!

  • Comment removed

  • tira a trilha é ou não é avião?

  • Very nice landing!!!

  • The music is irritating

  • those huge flaps really makes it look like its doing a hyper mega dive on final approach.. haha looks quite spectacular, and the landings, you did more than well my friend. Thnx for a great video!

    Best regards,

    Vladimir

Former MiG-21 pilot, from the old Yugoslavia...

  • now i just need 300 000 dolars

  • Theres one of these for sale on Barnstormers for a mere 90k. Cheap

  • When only a 'Bou will do!

  • derp-plane

  • It'd be awesome if Viking Air started to produce the Caribou/Buffalo again. I think they've been making strong proposals to the Canadian Government to replace our DHC-5s with factory new ones. Very nice vid :)

  • I've watched these all my life at Airshows around Australia, thanks for the memories boys!! And by the way very nice flying...

  • Hi, very nice plane and video, amazing smooth landings, never seen a plane going backwards before lol

It's just me or this plane has a slight down-nose attitude on landings? Tnx and thumb up for your skills!

  • The Caribou is one odd duck... Great piloting! ... Enjoyed to video.

  • VERY GOOD PILOT,BRAZIL, THANK YOU!

  • this music is Creedence Clearwater Revival: Down On The Corner

  • i loved this vid...music and all!!!!

  • Look up "Caribou YKAT" for a takeoff from Katoomba without the music.

  • I hear what you say about the wind noise bargie38 but we'll be lucky to hear any 'bou music again with or without wind noise.

Got a 38 squadron sticker in my shed with the logo "We get in when its hot wet and tight". Hope that still applies.

  • @sognol I can put a video of this without any music at all, but that will take some time as the original footage is on my other computer that is u/s. And of course I will need to re-learn how to make it, I'm not Gen Y so it's not intuitive.

That sticker is still around, I have the shoulder patchversion that I wear on my flying jacket as we get away with a bit more on that one than on the flying suit itself.

  • @bargie38 Now I want one of those stickers. (or at least to see one)

  • Flew in the back of these while in Vietnam. Loved flying in these. Amazing performers. Now that I fly...would love to grab a ride in the front office!!

  • Flew in the back of these while in Vietnam. Loved flying in these. Amazing performers. Now that I fly...would love to grab a ride in the front office!!

  • Could you upload a version without music, I hear what you say about the wind but I would like to just hear the 'bou. :)

  • Damn shame the clowns in Canberra got rid of the 'Bou's, fantastic sound, loved it.

When they were doing circuit work at RAAF Richmond, as they went over my house, the bloody t.v. would go nuts!, I formed the suspicion that they knew when I was watching something I really WANTED to see, and, sure enough, 'Lets fly over THAT house a few times, just to piss him off a bit'.

Now, I'm not saying the 'Bou is slow, but I once heard that they have had birdstrikes up the arse!.

    Heh, heh.

  • is the landing distance just as short or shorter than the take off role?

  • I used to work on these. Wish I could have listened to it without the goofy music!

  • @bearbon2 It's always difficult to choose the right music, but remember, it's a goofy aircraft. If it were a fast jet, then a more kickarse song would have been used. :)

  • Hey there, what was the RAAF technical view on running the Prat and Whitney R 2000 radial's with reverse pitch for reversing from hangers, dispersal etc? All the Pratt and Whitney service manuals on the R 2800, R 4360 as well as the Wright R 3350 that I have indicate that prop reversing is for landing thrust reverse only. Mind you there are quite a few video's about showing B377 Stratocruisers as well as L1049G Constellations reversing for early news reels. Also sad to see the Bou go. :-(

  • @bearbon2 I bet the music was chosen on purpose. The Caribou was planned for retirement then retained by countless governments. The "should I stay or should I go" is irony - enjoy

  • @bearbon2 The world's soundscape is definitely poorer with the loss of the growl of those beautiful radials. What a beast. I was Army Aviation in the 80's and 90's and loved seeing these guys fly in places.

  • Thanks for posting that. I used to watch them come in at Richmond as a kid. Most exciting aircraft there are. The way they just hang in the air. Amazing.

  • God I wish they would bring back the BOU I miss working on it so much...and that sound...so sad :-( .....being posted down to ORIONS is ordinary at best....38 FOR LIFE AND BOU'S FOR PM I think!!!

    GREAT WORK BARGIE

  • nice to see you don't need any help backing up!

  • Brilliant! Fantastic video and fantastic flying! thanks for sharing!

  • Is there an electric means of reverse on the props??

  • I rode in one of these from shoalwater bay to rockhampton. Out of all the planes Ive ridden in, these babys gave me the biggest thrill. The engines sound fantastic.

  • Looks like there is some pretty amazing engineering work on that flap system!!

  • No music, please!!!

  • Without the music it's overpowered by the sound of the wind.

  • Ok. Thanks

  • @jmzblu Yes, PLEASE drop the music! I came here expecting to hear those RADIALS, and that "PROP-POP"---not some cheezy-tune!

If it weren't for that, it'd have been an "A"-rated vid---probably even WITH the wind-noise....!

  • Lovely aircraft and good flying! How many meters of runway do you need for takeoff/landing?

  • 200-400m

  • @bargie38 Sweet, that's a true STOL aircraft. I love the nosewheel dance. Fly safe mate!

  • Any chance of a music free version so we can hear the 'bou music ? Great stuff.

  • Awesome footage!

  • Do you know if they are making one last visit to Watts Bridge this year ???

  • Nice work Bargie! Good fun flying in the last "flying club" air force styles :)

  • Brill last landing. Was that sideslip to lose some height?

  • Just cocked off into wind to maintain centreline. Not intended to lose height any faster, would require a large sideslip for that.
