It is a huge 6 cylinder truck engine with a chargecooled single turbo that is also very big. You should have seen this thing drive, the sound and the speed and the black smoke was very amazing.
I love the sound at idle,I think large injevtors r part of the cause; the dont spray well at low flow, I believe the static compression is lower than usual aswell.
@tpvalley Those diesel engines are fitted with Common-rail type injectors and pump. Piezoelectric injectors are computer controlled and can spray precisely the amount of diesel fuel on every cycle depending on various engine conditions.
it depends on how uprated they are, because if u want a correct spray pattern at max flow the nozzles need to be a certain size, so at low flow they almost drip, there are many examples of common rails lurching on here due to this.
The beuty of comon rail is that u can have multiple injection cycles in the same power stroke so u have the advantages of a lot of advance without as much knock and u can meet emissions but for power they hold no advantage.
@tpvalley After the startup see how letting it idle for few seconds the smoke disappears? Some things never change in a diesel engine. The cams should be crazy! Black art as you said mate
thing is with the cams is that rpm is limited so durations cannot be to long although u can make it so that it has peak power at just under max rpm rather than much lower in the green band if u drive truck on road.
yet bigger engines can handle more duration due to weight of charge being greater.
big lift and viciously steep opening part of lobes I reckon, but I am guessing.
Most push out over 1000bhp - and hit 100mph quicker than a Porsche 911 - they smoke loads because they run larger fuel injectors and have the diesel injection timing turned right up. They're totally awesome to watch race. They also run water cooled braking on the front wheels - water injectors spray the the discs from an on board tank when the brakes are applied. A racer friend of mine said they get through something like a 15 litre tank of water in a short race

...der Turbo is ja der Hammer...woow
sind ja sicher Sonderanfertigungen für RAcetrucks...oder sind das "einfache" tuningbetriebe die diese Teile liefern...? (OO)
SeThvsRA 3 years ago
die Getriebe sind Spezialanfertigungen. die Motoren allerdings nicht! Es werden nur Seriendiesel verwendet die dann hochgezüchtet werden.

It prob has over 1000bhp?

I think it was something about 1400hp...

@evojoerocks not the power, but the torque ;)

as a side note, u can tell its not burning properly by the white smoke-unburnt fuel.
truck cam profiles are a black art aswell.

yes when it warms it burns better.

U can buy a piper cam for peugeot 1.4 diesels.
