I agree that a) DUIs are expensive as hell, b) should be avoided, and c) are just plain wrong. I'm not so sure we need to be nickel and diming people for every little thing associated with DUIs (such as court hearings and license hearings, etc., etc., etc. If you're going for sticker shock, then why not announce a big fat fine up front instead of all those pesky little checks? Just saying.
@Rickyrab I agree. A lot of things are like this nowadays, quote one price but tack on a thousand more charges which add much more than the main charge. Hotels come to mind, as does college tuition (fees for the gym, activity fees, not to mention textbooks and equipment, etc etc).
