Mir was one tough lady and the russians are some tough guys keeping there heads cool like that. Most people would probably panic and do somthing stupid :I.
Let us hope that they make a new one in the future even better than the Mir :D.
there are two phrases that haunt my mind, "could you just uh, stir the tanks?" - apollo 13, this, and "if you could just climb up there and...start the rotors..." - half life 1 O_o
i would find that scenario as something that would make you pass out, i mean there's no way i could be as calm as they were. its just too hard to think that fast
The reason why the commander tells the visiting american astronaut to get to the escape ship is because they don't want any international conflict because they died and the american died too. So it's obvious that you get the visitor to the escape ship as soon as possible.
@DgenerationX12345 one of the russians claimed to have suffered a third degree burn to his arm, but it was denied by both the russian space program and nasa apparently
Neither did the crew of Mir ever. The space station was meant to be up the until 1991, but the fall of Soviet Union meant that Roskosmos had to keep it up as long as possible, and the fire occured when American astronauts were aboard. Now Roskosmos has much better things than keeping Soviet space stations aboard. I would think that teaming up with ESA for the next Kliper type orbital craft would make us faster up there than the traditional approach of Orion/Ares.

What is the source of this video and alijanlondon's second one regarding the Spektr collision? I've been looking around but can't find it anywhere.

@gammypoofle (only self-referencing so it might be easier for others to see the this)
I found the source - it's an episode of BBC Horizon called "Mir mortals", which aired in 1998.

Thats just about the scariest thing you can imagine. You have to be a mentally strong person to deal with space travel.
